I was reading on the eve-online.com that they were thinking about implementing a way to pay for your eve account via SMS or a 900 number. I don't have a credit card, and was looking for a fast way to have my trial account upgraded. From what I gathered this hasn't been implemented yet, and for all I know they might not even use these options in the US. Has anyone here used either one of them??
I've also heard that eve-online isn't available for sale in stores here in the states. Is this true?? It's looking like the only way I will be able to activate is over the net. I would love to pay for eve via my cell phone. It's looking like a game that I'll enjoy for a long time.

I have never seen a box for EvE in the US ever, but I have in Iceland and Japan.
Pay-by-cash is an option to upgrade your account I believe, but it isn't instant. There is also a charge to use their service and an entirely seperate charge just to get the money order to pay them, if I am remembering correctly. I just rememeber looking it all over and thinking pay-by-cash wasn't looking to happy making.
BUT! I did come up with a cheaper solution myself. Goto your bank and get a Visa (or Mastercard) endorsed gift card. My bank charges $2.50 for them each. They operate entirely like a credit card anywhere that accept Visa/Mastercard, and are available in almsot any amount, some limit you in $5 increments but not all. I bought one big enough to pay to upgrade my accoutn and pay for a good 3 months service too. Hid the card away.
And if for some reason you choose not to keep the account open you still have enough on their to go play almost anyother game for a while.
I want to send 25 $ to My friend.
I set a question : Hi, how are you ?
I set a answer : Fruitopia2 (Hidden)
Then the friend tell the good answer and received the cash. I used this method of like ... 15 avalaible.
I send the transaction before going to bed and in the afternoon next day my account was activated.
Pay-by-bash provide a way for anyone to make online payment.
The only drawback is that they charged me 5 $ CAD for the transaction (For a total of 31 ~).
But hey, i'm playing the best existing MMORPG !
I'd like to add that i'm 17 year old and cant use credit card so i was satified by it !
Eve-online is in stores,. in 2003 I got mine from Best buy,.had to find the box to see where i got it from for this post.
Bestbuy will order stuff for ya,and eve-online is like 100 times more popular than in 2003 im sure if you go to a gamming store like EB games they will have or will get you time cards or the game.
this option will most likly cost more,. but hey,. you will be playing with the rest of us.
In 2004 CCP bought the publishing right back from the now defunct 'Simon & Schuster Interactive' They did a rather poor job at selling it, and CCP though they could do better (they obviously have). Some of their ads S&S made for it just completely butchered the game's image, it wasn't funny.
Since then, no retail box for EVE has been legally published. CCP only provides electronic purchasing and download, so BestBuy will not be able to order it for you even if they wanted. If you happen to come across a copy of EVE on a store shelf some where, its been there for a long while. The last time I saw EVE in a store was at a Sam Goodie a year and a half ago.
As to how to pay for your subscription, I recommend opening a checking bank account and getting a Debit Card. Anyone can get one provided you have enough ID on you. Then you can use the Debit Card online like a Credit Card - the money is transferred right from your account, no bills, no fees, easy.
Speaking of SMS I found this great site that lets you send SMS and Email messages to EVE-Online Characters that are offline. Quite handy when you need to get that 1 dread pilot online.
