There’s been a trend over the past decade or so to pad the value of story-driven games out with tacked-on multiplayer and to tack on story-driven single player campaigns to games that are largely known for their multiplayer (ex. Battlefield). So, when Mass Effect 3 launched with a multiplayer component in back in 2012, I asked myself a familiar question: Why?

I usually stay with single player campaign. With all the changes to the game I wonder how it plays on pc.

Absolutely unnecessary. Make the single player game bigger and better, instead of adding multiplayer that is essentially separated game.

    It's a slippery slope, I think...

Multiplayer features are not supposed to affect the single-player game experience, but does that mean the "Bonus Stats" you can earn in multiplayer don't carry over to your character in the single-player campaign ?

I'm not sure I like where this is going.

that remember me how awfull the MP of inquisition was, bugged, randoms dcs, not even considerating the awfull class system in that part, the sp was ok the MP horrible, the ME3 MP was ok simple because there was the base classes of the game in there, also knowing how bioware is working lately, i'm pretty sure it will not be good at all, BF1 also not good star wars battlefront bad too(people like it the most just because its hansolo and vader is there)

in the end I will be thankfull, I will not ahve to spend money on ea games for some long years, plus not having to deal with origin is a big plus

Multiplayer stat bonuses do not impact your single player character, no.

    Good to hear !

It would be a pity to see the Mass Effect franchise evolve into a multiplayer game with a SPG campaign "tacked on", lol

Mass Effect 3 multi-player was awesome. You'd only know if you actually played it. It was a great thing to do after clearing the game or when you needed to clean your palette from all the cut scene gameplay.

I only did enough multiplayer in ME3 to influence the end game possibilities. It wasn't bad but it just wasn't the reason why I played ME3. I don't need every single thing I play to be multiplayer.

I did actually play it and didn't find anything compelling about it. Did two matches and never touched it again. ME:A SP from what i have seen, reminds me of ME3MP. That worries me a bit since i wasn't all that thrilled with ME3MP.

As long as it doesn't touch SP in anyway, I'm fine with it, but would rather they have spent the money on the SP portion of the game.

ME3's Multiplayer was unplayable on PC; the servers were the laggiest m-fers I have ever seen. I presume that was not the case on consoles? Also, with console services being paid now, for some reason, developers need to be careful with MP crap and trophies on a SP game; a lot of us just don't have access to it.

I don't always spend time with the multiplayer component of games in which the "main draw" is single-player, but I'm not at all bothered that developers include it. I know enough about games to know that they're usually handled by different teams within the company and that including a multiplayer component doesn't necessarily mean they're taking away resources that would have made the single-player better.

I'm the type of person who bounces from one game to the next and has a huge backlog and numerous other hobbies, but I can respect that some people really love those games they can stick with for months or years, and if going back to multiplayer with a group of friends can provide that, that's awesome.

Just read the RPS "early game play" review of ME:A and it's not flattering... at all... :bawling:

I don't usually bother with seperate multiplayer modes in single player games, no matter how good people say they are (e.g. MP may as well not have existed in TLOU / Uncharted series). However, I do like the sort of 'mixed-mode' multiplayer that games like Dark Souls have, so if the Apex Missions are similar to that; e.g. like an action based single player mission, just with player controlled team mates, then I will probably enjoy it. Like usual though, I doubt I will ever even select the menu option for any sort of standalone multiplayer mode.

I didn't expect anything from ME:3's multiplayer, and was pleasantly surprised by it. Simple fun with a lot of options. Probably spent more time in MP than I did in the single player of all three ME games combined.

I'd buy ME:A just for the multiplayer if it was as enjoyable as ME:3's, but I intend to wait for more reviews, after the somewhat dodgy Dragon Age: Inquisition multiplayer.

    You mean Dragon Age Inquisition?

From what I'm reading from people playing early access on MEAMP I guess the same constant disconnects, crashing, and horrible lag is plaguing this game also like it did with DAIMP. I won't get into the SP portion, but it's not faring well either.

Ugh just read that early review...this is why I am not too keen into multiplayer being tacked on to single player games...

Watching some streams it looks like you have to kill multiple waves of mobs with 3 other players in multiplayer mode. Didn't look great/new. Quite chaotic and repetitive. I could definately live without that in an ME game.

Unfortunately also the single player streams didn't get me excited at all. Even less if I compare them to Horizon or Zelda. When I watched those streams they really made me want to get those games and play them (which I didn't because I own no consoles and I am not going to spend 700 euros for two games. ;) ). On the other hand watching an MEA single player stream I always got the urge to fast forward the stream. Was a little boring. On a side note I have to say the faces of humans and human-like race look .... dumb. Looks like someone sucked their brains out. Somehow without life. Difficult to describe.

But I hope I am wrong and single player will be worth it...
