I recently spent some time in Albion Online. Was it enough to feel out all the changes? LOL no, not even close. It did give me a preview of a few things. As with many big tests in a game that is still in beta I was greeted with starting over once again, then a black screen, then a few minutes of play followed by a server restart! I chuckled about the ordeal because this is Beta and shortly after a massive patch.

I'm going to have to patch up and check out the changes.

That's if I can rip myself away from the new Zelda. Going to be very hard but I think I can do it ;)

I bought into Albion recently and have been having a blast. I didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I have been. I'm on the edge with whether I should continue or just wait until july though when the final wipe happens.

Yeah, I hear ya.  I've been watching my son play and I'm now torn between Albion and Zelda.
Albion doesn't release until July....  B)

Only fail in this game is the combat... It should've been like Diablo 2 style hack and slash ARPG combat... Not this WoW clone isometric combat.

I've been watching this game for a few years now and decided to buy a Founders pack for this last Beta. I do not regret my decision so far. I wouldn't exactly call this a Sandbox MMO, but it's definitely something different beyond the normal Themepark MMO. I can just come in chop some wood kill some monsters, farm carrots on my island and that's totally fine.

I'm not forced into any "Epic storyline to save the World because your the savior!!" Or anything. I'm just a regular guy making my way just like everyone else, specializing in the areas I choose, and that's just so relaxing like the article says, I'm not cornered into anything I can do what I want at my own pace.

It's grindy, but I feel like most MMORPG's are, but I don't mind the grind because the freedom and gameplay is just that good.

My favorite part is definitely the strategy in what you want to do, selecting the right equipment for skills, learning how to market your goods, (if your into PvP learning routes and different ways to ambush people). And being a part of a guild is really recommended, find a guild that matches your style and join them it makes the game even more fun, and you guys basically create your own story.

Loving the game, they got all my support. Many areas to improve, but I can see heart and thought went into the game and it leaves for much progress and expansion in the future.

Sadly no EU servers. High latency PvP is not fun and not fair.

The biggest negative point is the bad ping for EU. EU player have disadvantages so competitive PVP will be a US easy mode.

For me a reason not to play the game 150ms in fights where you need to dodge AOEs is just not good.

I completely disagree with you. This should play more like a " Vainglory " if I may say. Moba-esque combat would shine in this one. I hope they will lean towards it more ( I am not a player but as far as what I saw from gameplay videos, the combat is very similar to a prolonged, lingering MOBA and I hope they will keep it that way, build on it )

I can say, by experience, that the game will be a success. The DEV seems like a passionate guy and the videos he publishes ( despite the chronic swallowing that he does ), with the addition of the years of progress that I've been observing are enough for me to grow some faith in this project. I purely reflect media here.

I remember GW2, ESO beta days, far worse than what I am seeing here with Albion.

It has been a long time since I've laid my hands on a proper UO successor with a contemporary vibe.

game is super dead on arrival. 99% of you will quit before the second week. Do yourself a favor.. log in again in mid april and see how much staying power this craptastic cashgrab has. Game has progressively gotten worse and worse every patch.. no different w/ Galahad.

I call it the new car shine, 99% of gamers fall for it every time and charge out of the gates rarara! only to end up crying endlessly once they actually play for a while and realize all the flaws lol

Nah, I don't think so.   Albion Online isn't a perfect game but I think it's going to scratch an itch for people who want an Eve Online type of experience in a fantasy world.

Well, as a PvP game with PvE frills tacked on, it has limited appeal, much like Eve, so that is probably a fair comparison.

This is the problem and why people leave in droves within a week. It doesnt scratch that itch by any means. The devs started off playing the EVE card heavily saying that AO was EVE with swords. That drew nothing but ire from the many EVE players who promptly left. Then the Dev's tried the UO card. That failed and pissed off more people. Now the Devs are adamant that their game is its own thing not to be compared with UO and EVE. They finally realized that comparing this piece of sh^t to anything good will only give it more bad publicity. Meanwhile they try to capitalize as much as they can with paid beta access so that the sole owner of the Gmbh that has funded the game can recoup as much of his losses as he can. Everyone at Sandbox knows the game is dead and are just trying to milk every last drop with hype and gated Beta access before the whole thing burns away in a flash of 2 week glory.

The state of the game is absolutely pathetic. Its gotten so bad that they cant even test one of their major game system implemented 2 wipes ago, the city forced auction/real estate market. At the end of the first month all owned city plots go up for bid. The idea is that it gets rid of afk quitters taking up spots in the city. It probably is a failed system because it will just let the big guilds gobble up the land from small players/groups that have no way of generating 30 mil silver /day. The funny reality however is that they have never been able to test this mechanic out. By 30 days, the entire game is a ghost town. I've gone in and bought every plot in a city for 20 silver each. The game is so trash it hilarious.

Ive followed this and played hardcore for every beta since Alpha 1. The pop decline happens faster and faster on each iteration followed by massive discontent and a fresh extension of the beta phase in order to implement changes. These changes are usually just a rehash of old stuff they took out in previous iterations, but who cares... At this point with every wipe they sucker a few more people into swiping 50+ bucks for a beta key. The free beta keys that come out are all for one week... the one week that the game is kinda fun and fresh.

This, this for me totally. Its so nice having freedom again instead of the typical A-Z mousewheel pathing nonsense of most themepark mmorpgs. Sure to many it looks like crap but for me what I'm losing in beauty I gain in detail. Interdependency is not a dirty word to me so I am totally hyped on finding the right guild for what I'm looking for. I'm enjoying it so far but I'd recommend hardcore soloers to stay away from this game. Also while this is beta and trying out everything is fine, don't gimp yourself by being a jack of all trades when the game launches, its not worth it. Pick a few things to specialize in and join a guild and let your guildies handle the rest.

Is this still top town locked camera view? Can you rotate the camera horizontally at least? Can you see the sky? Some of the official videos are confusing now...
Yes, still an isometric top-down view only.  You can zoom and out but I don't believe there are any other view adjustments.
A really strange decision considering that in some official videos, they move the camera around and even in one, you can see the skybox. A shame, really.
The problem with the isometric view, especially in a pvp game, you have very limited sight.  It is so easy to walk into an ambush before you know it.  Did enough of this in UO, won't ever play a pvp game using this perspective again.

That claustrophobic sight is a sideeffect of their glorious decision to bring a PvP game to tablets.
I guess PC users aren't supposed to have an advantage in view distance over players on android devices.

The NPC's AI is also set accordingly....you don't aggro mobs until you step on their toes and even ranged units can only see you within 5 meters.
To me this is totally immersion breaking, if not game breaking...but they want it to work on 7" screens.

Some fun things in this game. But the top down view was a deal breaker.

Those that don't mind this view, should enjoy it though.

And they have just lost a potential customer with that. Was contemplating about buying the game but this needs to be sorted first.

Its why they keep the vew tight which I'm still not ok with. Makes me feel claustrophobic at times. Even 2 clicks back would be nice.

Cant say this enough, this is a guild game. If you dont guild up I dont see people retaining.
Yeah the only appeal for me would be to join up people here on the forums. None of my mates would be playing this. But it is a game which is friendly to smaller guilds so it might work out.

Galahad broke the game for me. I literally cannot get the download to complete successfully when I attempt a clean install (hangs at 49%) and when I attempt to re-launch the downloader, it then tells me my game files are corrupt.

Posted my issue on the game forums and someone responded that this was an ongoing issue that has been affecting a small portion of gamers for a few updates now, but still hasn't seen a true resolution from the devs. :/

EDIT- Persistence pays off!  After a few failed attempts to try some fixes suggested by support, I was finally able to update the game successfully!  Hooray!  :p

After spending about 6 hours with Albion Online, it's obvious there is a game here somewhere...I'm just having trouble finding it.

And this is why SBI keeps wiping and making betas...

No one would buy shit if they waited until 3 weeks post release and did some research. With "closed" beta access however, the suckers keep coming in.

My 3 legendary founder packs are all a waste but hey, I made that mistake back in pre-alpha 1, when the game looked promising. Now it only promises to keep milking the unwary...
