Beamdog is a company that has been bringing some of the finest RPGs of all time to a new generation via remastered editions. Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, Icewind Dale are all part of the "new" generation of "old games" that have crossed platforms to tablets and more. The team even added a new chapter to Baldur's Gate with the Siege of Dragonspear expansion that bridged the gap between the first and second games in the series.

    These folk found a nice cash cow reciepe.
    1. Take classic RPG that everyone is nostalgic about.
    2. Slightly tune it without sweating too much.
    3. Sell and reap profit.

    To be fair, you don't really need to be so specific. You could remaster Mario and make millions. Just remaster ANYTHING nostalgic. 

    My one request is "Don't break my childhood.", lol. Also, chances are your kids will hate it and then you'll resent them for not liking it :)

    Well they tried to go original route with siege of dragonspear, and failed on the story/characters/length. They need to get some quality writers/level designers, to really get out a quality crpg.

    WHY a remake? There are enough mods out there that make the game very playable on 1080p as well as remove all bugs that Black Isle never fixed. IMO the game is okay (with the mods) as it is, and I certainly would be very sad to see D&D3.5 implemented in the game (D&D3.5 rules destroyed BG1&2 from Beamdog as well)

    I always thought this was one of the most overrated games ever put out. I've played it, I've played Planescape for P&P and I don't know which I disliked more. The actual game or the actual setting. It's just too weird. Up is down and down is up. It just doesn't make any sense.

    I think that's why it's awesome.
