Heh, well if we're gonna be realistic here for a while instead and think about sieges and big battles which were the case in DAoC (and is in most _MMO's_) more often than not: How do you think an actual fight at a keep/castle/milegate would perform with collision detection? Given you have been apart of any bigger battles in MMO's that is.
Personally I'd think it would suck hairy donkey balls and break the game entirely.

Still, Warhammer came before Warcraft, and by the looks of it, WoW's PvP is laughable compared to what the upcoming WAR has to offer. (EDIT: Not to mention the character and questing customisation and all the other great content.)

the game is gonna be a great hit from what i have read so far. if im right didnt i read that there was the 2 alliances so u had the dwarfs , humans and the elfs then the greenskins so orcs ,goblins then chaos and dark elfs. didnt they say there was 3realms so does that mean that the greenskins and chaos , darkelfs can fight each other what iv read so far id doest sound like u can unless u go into the pvp areas.

not a big deal just wanted to c if they where gonna have like 3realm like in DAOC i liked the idea and when DAOC had lots of ppl playing it 3realms where great in Old frontiers.

part from that the combat sounds very intresting how good its gonna work i cant wait coz its gonna req more skill more clicking insted of a stick and spam 1 button

i love the idea also on the skermish i think it was where u had the instantce fights where they would put the NPCs to make up for what ever team didnt have enought players. they should be able to balance it out very well i cant say all that much right now coz i think its gonna be a game ill wanna actualy play to give it an acurate rating.

i loved reading that u can lvl up from just PvP  // RvR witch makes me even happer knowing i played DAOC for 4-5years and mordred was my home PvP 4 life ;P WoW didnt cut it for me that game had no PvP //RvR that was enjoyable but Mythic u make the best PvP games out so get 2 work n make the world a better place++

i remember reading about 2months ago ppl where tlaking about how many ppl per group i think we worked out 10 was 2 many and any thing under 5 was 2 few and ne thing from 6-8 was great did we end up getting a number?

Any way a big thanks for posting this artical 4 all us WAR Lovers cant wait along with a good million of other ppl

Wow, great read!  I am going to have to pre-order this thing and try my hardest to get into the beta when it becomes available.

I think this MMORPG is going to be the conglomeration of all the greatest things anyone has seen in an MMORPG.  Guild Wars + DAoC + FFXI

    Guild Wars: Slotted powers
    DAoC: RvR + skill quickbars
    FFXI: Build up for powers.

    WOOT

Have to say This is one game I am really looking forward to.  My wife is gonna kick my butt when I tell her I want this game and CoH at the same time.

As a old warhammer player.  Warcraft took  A LOT of ideas and looks from warhammer.  Nuff said about that.

What has become of Mythic? Thanks for urinating on Warhammer, Mr. Barnett.

This is unbelievable. It confirms every possible concern I had about this reiteration of Warhammer Online. I just read five pages of everything I hate about the way this genre is becoming a parody of itself so that idiots can have their shits and giggles. It is farcical.

Humour is one thing, but hacking an IP to pieces and rolling it through a coat of Blizzard's paint so a bunch of ADD-ridden WarCraft refugees can guffaw over a misrepresentation of Warhammer as a mockery of everything online fantasy worlds should be... is something that I can feel nothing but disgust for.

Good call on having some blood, though, I suppose. Blood has been glaringly absent from the genre.

    Sorry for being a meany-head.

Hmm, as I didn't see any mention of this question in the forum posts thus far, I'll have to ask.

    6 races?

The article mentions humans, elves and dwarves fight the orcs, goblins and dark elves but the humans also fight 'chaos'. It would seem that the orcs and goblins are not one race but rather two races witha similar trait, the green skin factor. So is chaos a 'race' or do the humans also fight against a seventh opponent, the dreaded 'evil' force that steals amorphously into the hearts and minds of men (and elves and dwarves) when they do not see the right and clear path...etc..?

Orcs and goblins are considered one race here. They do not have genders, so rather than a 'male/female' option under the 'Greenskin' race you instead are presented with 'Orc/Goblin'. That is how I read it.

Eh, I read allot of post in here, I see what some are saying, as far as complaining it's another fantasy game, so what there’s the door, don't let it hit you in the ass. Please, does it matter? I am looking forward to this game for two reasons. First it's Warhammer, enough said on that. Secondly Mythic is making it, while most of you are to young to even have ever played DAOC, it was revolutionary, smooth game play and looked awesome for it's day. It is , the one game I do keep going back to ., at this point I am playing nothing online. However if I do, I can say it will be DAOC, still the best out there and being made by Mythic, this title coming will surly be just as great.

There are six factions/races. The greenskins (orcs/goblins only male) fight the dwarves (male/female), the humans fight chaos and the elves fight the dark elves. That is the territorial and racial couplings you can expect.

Great article. I'm really looking forward to the game now as a bit of a Warhammer fan. It looks like it will be pretty fun to play at first at least, the only thing is whether or not it will last as long as a game likeWoW

  • -Akkarin--Akkarin- Member Posts: 33

Dwarf females, the thought of that makes me cringe! Great preview seems to be like this is going to be a very good game. Only things I would say is maybe they should add some more races/classes to the game.

This article sure as hell doesn't make me happy. Apart from this design yoda making an exceedingly arrogant, i-know-it-better-than-you impression, they sound like they are making another dead-end combat-obsessed MMO. Will I buy it? Sure. Will I play it? If my impression is what I've read, no more than 3 months.

Don't get me wrong, I love WoW. WoW has captured my attention for a year now and they are making money off me. But I have a few objections to the formula. - especially if it gets to be milked in War and LOTR MMO for the next five years.

    /pukes

The game formula of WoW is in its wealth of discovery. I like levelling and grinding through endless areas, meeting people, interacting, discovering and building something unique. I don't like WoW insofar it duplicates the same prefab formula that resents me so much in eurodisney. Don't stray from the paths. It is impossible to stray from the paths. Look to your left, a scenic ruin. Look to your right, a scripted scenic dinosaur skeleton.

If MMO's are gonna be like that the next five years, oh well *sigh*. I like WoW as long as there is something new happening. Once nothing new happens and I get stuck in an endless grind-for-money to buy stuff for endless grinding high level instances/PvP i feel sick all over. I don't need that shit, if I wanted that I'd get a 9to5 job. I want discovery. I wanna create. I wanna feel smart.

That's why I play SL, or used to play SL (untill I got sick of the lame-ass interface and graphics). WoW needs more SL.

I fear, I DREAD that warhammer MMO is gonna be more of the same with more toon harhar PvP combat edited in, some higher screen resolution and bitmaps. That shit don't impress me. I want dynamic. I want persistent. I want mature.

My ideal MMO would be a mix between a first person shooter, descent, homeworld, Gurps THS, Command & Conquer, Dungeon Keeper, GTA, SL and WoW. I want people to be able to create content and a good peer review system to edit out crap fast. I want an in-game economy. I want strategy game elements. I want to be able to build my own tele-operated robot design manager so I can make my own triple-chaingun mounted robot and leave it at junction 6C to ward against pesky low levels that'll come in their asteroid pirate ion-drive stealth clipper and try and steal my tritium store. I wanna level in ten different hierarchies of advancement, with difficult choices, dilemma's and trade-offs AND a good idiotproof cheat-resistant system. I wanna save my character in-game at a local cloning bank, so if my character dies he gets regrown as a clone, my insurance installs standard cybernetics up to my last saved level and my death and rebirth is a part of a realistic storyline.

And my 2010 I want the same in-game graphics for the cutting edge MMO world as now revealed for Crysis, dammit.

Lemme travel in a realistic solar system. If I play a fantasy game, lemme travel in endless caverns, skyrealms, under sea realms, cities in the treetops or forbidden volcanic wastelands. If I am to continue in something like WoW, let me build my own smith, claim my own graveyard, create my own mage's tower or assassin's temple. I say, stamp the formula of Alterac Valley on the entire WoW world. Make the game dynamic. Add minimum new 2 continents, 4 races,1 class, 1 profession and all pertinent continent per year. Create a system for politics. Allow players to create instances and add the best instances to the setting, at the very least one a month.

And Warhammer MMO? I hope it is better than the article suggests. The time is no longer that the majority of people who play games like this are zitfaced adolescents with no girlfriends. I play these games with my wife, thank you very much, side by side on 2 PC's, days on end, untill we crash in severe depression, and then we recuperate in the local Gym, train the fat off 4 days a week and do it all over again.

This shit is spiritual for us, not something on the side. It is the future. It is the early stirrings of singularity. It is hope that this world might just become interesting.

i gotta say the last post by dagonweb realy reminded me of whinner from like Vn or sumthing. i read about half ur post how much u loved WoW n the parts u didnt then how u wish it was more like SL no idea wtf SL(Second Life?) is but i dont realy keer.

U cant expect these companys to make games exactly how u want them coz some things not gonna work hay u can dream about it and say ur opinion and all but say that this game sucks or is gonna make u sik the way its going isnt realy what they wanna hear 1st off half of it is what they wanna do doesnt mean they will do all of it hay. Mythic say they where gonna make DAoC  1way then after playing it for years they didnt even end up choosing that path.

IMO Dont bad mouth a game from an idea until its released an then u can play it hay it might be what u like or it might not if its no move on even if u are the biggest WAR fan play another game like WoW or SL every game has its good points and bad points its just up 2 u if u like more of the good points n then u can focuse on them and miss the bad point. Personly thats why i think WoW is like the Worst MMORPG iv ever played because i cant escape the bad points like Quests to lvl up grinding is lame agro from an animal u kill 1hit

Tear1 tear2 tear3 HardCore gamers can only get this equipment unless u r best friends with Ebay or take 1year to get trear2 if ur the GM. its great game if u r a Hardcore Raider

Mythic makes RvR,PvP games as there main aim they get alot of players that love just and only PvP but they do have  a quest here of there when ur bord. i gotta say that DAoC interface wasnt the best but it was great for its time

    best of luck 2 WAR...

i read the article, and the only thing i could think about was how i miss the cencel warhammer design.

the one that was full of original warhammer-inspired features & ideas runing around. whatever games workshop was thinking when they cenceled it, its sad for the mmo industry imo.

mythic: "it will revolutionize mmo's, don't you see that original feature list that obviously has absolutely nothing to do with doac (cause we used a different font this time around...)?"

thanks. when did you say the release date? o but i don't need to wait to play warhammer, i can just play doac with sunglasses and laughing gass, right now"

Just because it has RvR does not make it a DAOC clone.  That's like saying all games with PvE are clones.  There were a lot of mistakes made with DAOC that are so ingrained in the system that fixing them is nye impossible.  WAR gives them a chance to fix the RvR formula and I really see no differences between the 2 other than RvR.

Late to the party but very well written article. Beforehand I had no real desire to play this game other than to support Mythic. Now I'm actually going to follow it.

Best release of info from all the sites even forms. Really gives you a look at what mythic is trying to do.

A WoW killer if ever I saw one.

The time is right, and, from what I have read, the game is right as well.

    One request though...

Plz Plz Plz don't sacrifice complexity for mass appeal... I can't stand to see another game with great potentiol to be destroyed by dumbing them down to chase the $$$$$$$. Games can be both popular *and* challenging! Not everything has to be aimed at the 8 year olds and the casual gamers (who funnily enough seem to demand the same things from MMORPGs...)

In other words, make a game for GAMERS :)
