Mass Effect: Andromeda News - Today's Mass Effect Andromeda patch is out and ready to download. It brings a number of changes to the game, but none so noticeable as the alterations and improvements to cut scene facial animations. Reddit has been busy posting before and after images and the difference is definitely apparent.

Who knew the eyes make that much of a difference? But I guess that's why they're called the "window to the soul".

You know, different games attract a different audience, and your idea of beauty may not be the same as someone else. For example, the women and men in Dead By Daylight are grungy and dirty, but they are trying to run away from the trapper so you'd expect them to be that way. I am more interested in a game is fun to play and not how "hot" the men or women are.

A small step in the right direction, heh, all you fanboys that defended the game.... Don't upgrade, the game is great no? No need for any improvements.

I think Addison looks very good now. She should look tired. If you've played the game or read Tempest Uprising, you know why.
I checked out all the human companions and a couple Asari too -- all look better. What a difference a bit less glaring make up and better eyes can make.

Still, I wish Asari didn't all look the same. As I'm now replaying the original trilogy, I see the wide variety in looks and markings that is very much missing in Andromeda. Not game breaking, just wistful wishing on my part. *hugs Liara*

i agree, at first I thought the old one looked better, then i read the other one was the new one then i saw the change and i could agree it was better, but at first glance the old one did look better.

I just do not get people that constantly gripe about graphics.  If you want stunning graphics go play some of the games from eastern developers, they spend an inordinate amount of time on them and the characters are very well done, of course the content is very lacking because they had no time left to devote to it.  I will take content over looks any day in the week and MEA has tons of that.

It also sort of "broke" one thing on the PC: if you use full screen mode, prior to today's patch alt-tabbing minimized the game and just restored it when you clicked on it again on the task bar, Now alt-tab puts the game into windowed mode.

It took me a while to remember that alt-enter is the key combo you need to use to put it back into full screen mode... it'd been a while since I had to do that with a game.

I said a step in the right direction, but yeah i don't expect them to fix the dialogs ect.... This is the minimum they could do to show good will effort...

IGN's video comparison is much better than that snippet:

They seem to have mainly darkened the top half of the iris and the corners of the eyes; makes a huge difference.

Keep the improvements coming. I'm pretending this game isn't out yet.

Can't wait for launch day with all the problems solved.

Same, personally i am prepared to wait a year if it means they improve the dialogue too, though that might be a bit too much to hope for, but who knows, they just might. :o

If they would just remove her and Hainly Abrams, that would really be great for the game's dialogue.

Posters are fickle.  I really had no problem with the dialog, sure it could be better in some cases, but it was not worth complaining about.  Yet, when I play Black Desert the dialog is of the scratch your head kind.  Half the time you have to reread the quests multiple times to get the gist of the quest, yet I never see anyone whining about dialog in that game.

To that end, people keep forgetting that there was a time where the "art and graphics" of computer role playing games weren't "all that". We didn't complain, we just said "cool, we get to play an adventure".

Now if it isn't absolutely equal to real life it's suddenly crap.

It's more than cosmetic. The biggest change is that in close-up cut scenes the eyes focus on the speaker much better than before and the facial expressions match the dialogue much better.

You don't get these wandering eyes and inappropriate smiles as much now.

You have a point, but character models in Andromeda weren't some small nitpick. They looked worse than those of Mass Effect 1. You know, the game that had less financial backing on inferior hardware.

Indeed; that scene actually looks really cool and compelling now.

I believe you need to compare today's games not with what was possible with the hardware and software of the past decade, but what is possible today.

Not to mention that the current competition in story delivery for ME:A is no longer the previous ME games, but the Witcher 3.

Did they patch the awful voice acting and script too?

Seriously, Bioware's ability to craft compelling narrative with likable characters has greatly diminished in recent years.

I never though I'd say it but I miss Shepherd, who in my opinion was the most generic of protagonists. Which just goes to show how awful Ryder is. . .
