The best thing that could happen to this game is they finish the Offline mode and just make it a great RPG..

I once purchased a shredded chicken salad sandwich from a deli. Within four hours of eating it I had explosive diarrhea followed up with two days of vomiting and chills. That was a better purchase than this game.

Isn't this the game made by the guy who killed UO? Another one of those Anti PK games?

I made my character and played for a bit just to get a feel for the game.

    So far I like it,

I like how you talk to the npcs and have to type in a response. The music and the visuals are nice. This game feels like Everquest 2.  =)

haha guess the first time didn't work out like they planned. Guess their 10000+ basement castles weren't as addicting as they thought. Its ok though, soon he will close the game down, and bail to space laughing all the way.

I played it last year for a bit. I don't care for the very small maps (it's not open-world). I don't care for the random card system when attacking. The cities and towns were very laggy and unoptomized, even on powerful systems.

The game has potential, though. Am just waiting for it to mature some more and see where it's headed.

I heard that Richard Garriott was thinking about doing just that to raise funds at one of their drives.

Ok so I tried it out. It's cool this guy made a game or two back in the 90's, this isn't the 90's. After the bout of hysterical laughter at watching my "avatar's" ass wiggle like gelatin I thought "Ok the environment isn't too bad I guess. Maybe it won't be so bad?" Then I got to use a weapon....o.m.f.g! Did the developer not have that one friend that was like "You know what, not to be mean, but this game you're making really sucks."
He should have. And the people that payed money are even more to blame. It's all your fault the industry is where it is today for enabling these guys.

I tried it, it's not that good.

Maybe he's going to use the proceeds from selling his beloved Austin castle to "save" Shroud.

Oh dude, best cash shop item ever! An in-game replica of his actual house! Only one available, $25,000!

This is another sinking ship from space cadet Garriot. It will be interesting to hear his excuses of why this game failed once he drops it and moves on to try to do something else based on his success of a game he made over 20 years ago. These guys need to just go away so we can get some new ideas. This whole nostalgia thing needs to just end because all we are getting is terrible versions of old games that are nothing but cash grabs.

Yup another way to milk em, they know new people don't read closely enough. Pretty shady. Funny the pic in this post is that silly cheap asset they got from the unity store too, ROFL.

I like how the screenshot of the game shows the free Unity Asset store horse that they put up for sale in their cashshop. Very humorous.

I've been playing it for a few months now.

It is definitely still in Alpha.  Lot's of stuff still needs to be implemented.  If you don't like to play games that are half finished you should not try this at this time.  I'm not a big fan of the free weekends at this stage.  It is not ready for the mass market and it will only hurt in the long run.  Players who don't understand Alpha will get a bad taste and stay away and post crap about it in forums.

The good.  Very few quests.  Not a theme park!  You are on your own, go be whatever you want to be.  Skill system advances through use.  I like the skill pool concept.  Great community.  I quickly found a great guild with great people who helped guide me and made the evenings fun.  I love the crafting system!  All good gear is player made.  Crafting is challenging and failure is painful but that just makes success so much sweeter!

I still have hope it will become a good game.  Though it has a way to go before then.

Unless you really love the game and want to support it, avoid the cash shop.  I have yet to purchase anything.  Sheesh, stuff is high priced!  Thankfully I have not seen a reason to use it.

Well, last time it was all EA's fault. This time he has no parent company to fall back on when playing the blame game.

My prediction is that Richard, the rest of Portalaruim, and the SotA whales will blame it on the very same people they alienated during early development phases of the game.

Kudos to to all the people who fought back, called them out on other sites, and risked bans to get the word out on the downward spiral SotA was taking. I'm proud to be one of those people.

If the game does finally die off, then I'll gladly take some responsibility for that. Maybe in the future Portalarium will think twice before taking people's money and then treating them like garbage.

The real problem has never been the game itself. It has major issues that need fixing, but the game is playable. The community is the real problem, who are so quick to shut down anyone who dares criticize the status quo, all sanctioned by Richard and Co.

I sometimes wonder what would happen if Portalarium extended an olive branch to the disaffected, admitting to treating them badly, and asking them to give the game another chance. However, that will never happen due to the bloated egos of both Portalarium and its whale pod.

    RIP SotA (hopefully)

I would say while the community is a huge downfall of this game. The poor design swinging wildly from month to month, with no planning with core systems, game mechanics, world, awful mix match systems all created with cheap unity assets and using the unity engine are main problems with this game. It had no where to go but down with the titanic with this team that just don't have the talent and know how, they just didn't have a clue what they were doing for 4 years.

All wrong. This game is bad. Even messing with UE4 the little amount I have I had better melee combat implemented. Moving while swinging a sword? How could any proper game dev even tolerate this, much less allow it to go public? I'd be ashamed and embarrassed. The good you list are not even good, they are ideas that are half baked.
I get it, everyone has to start somewhere, no one makes a blockbuster game out the gate. This isn't their first rodeo. This is not a commercial product, this is what you make when you learn how to make a commercial product and they damn well know it.
