Replacement for WoW?

I stopped playing WoW not to long ago and will be getting anew computer before long. I am slightly annoyed with Blizz to be honest because they keep nerfing my class (rogue). So in short what would be a good game for some one who was a fan of WoW?

EQ2 is a definete match for you if you are an ex-wow player frustrated with certain quirks. Although there were a lot of differences in the past, both games stole from each other to make their games much better over time (but not in the case of your rogue class).
I left WoW because of the PvP ganking. I like PvP, but getting wasted by ubers on a regular basis ruined any fun I had in game. In EQ2 they have introduced PvP and have a 10 level limit on what is a fair target.
They also have a mentoring system that allows you to change your effective level to that of a friend you are mentoring so that you can enjoy the combat and xp side by side.
Combat is very similar to WoW. If you enjoyed the Rogue ability to inflict extra damage or use special skills based on stealth or their postion to the target, EQ2's scout classes are extremely similar.
A neat twist to the Realm vs Realm (Horde vs Alliance) thing is that you can betray your starting group and switch sides. So in theory your Shadow Knight Ogre can go thru the extremely hard quest to become a good guy Paladin. I've yet to try that, but I am about to do so.
They offer the newbie Isle as a free trial, however its not really that great an introduction to what the game has to offer - its more of an introduction to the world of Norrath and MMOs in general. Judging EQ2 by the newbie Isle would be like judging WoW by the slaughter wolves/boars get me a drink quests of WoW 1st levels. Its not until you are immersed in the greater world, with around 10 levels under your belt that you really get a good impression of the game. Leveling to 10 isn't too hard.
Another perk is that you can ride mounts at lvl 20 instead of waiting until level 40 in WoW.
EQ2 also has a few wow like features- custom GUIs, intergame email. They have Guild Vaults and Shared Vaults for your alts.
Their content is massive and they seem to be on a very agressive release cycle for getting out new monthly content that has substance to it (reminding me of the hey day of AC2s monthly chapters).

Anyway, I've played a lot of MMOs. EQ2 has the stigmata of being associated with Sony, which immediately spawns disdain from a lot of gamers.Only way to really judge is to try it yourself, eh?

Dark Age of Camelot would be worth a try since the whole game is oriented around Realms vs Realm (PvP).

They got about 35 Classes to choose from and 3 Factions in which to roll your toon. (Hiberians, Albions and Midgard)

The game is great if you end up buying the Epic Edition, the free trial doesnt really do the game justice since you dont get all of the updated graphics and expansions but, worth taking a look at if you want a change from the old WoW scene.

1.12 brings rogue talent changes (i think) so they should get a bit of a fix then

Guild Wars seems to be a good game for those who play WoW (i know alot of people in my guild have both)

Is 1.12 the official rogue patch? I thought it was shaman.. anyhows 1.12 is probably still 3-5 months out in the future so there is plenty of time to do other stuff. If you like pvp that isn't determined by who has the better items then the new guildwars expansion might be worth a look for you since it's bringing an assassin class and is designed by old blizzard developers.

Nope, 1.12 is mages, 1.13 is shamans, 1.14 is rogues.

I play a rogue myself, it's not nerfed that badly, just need the gear to keep up now. It has to get worse before it gets better my friend

But, a game I really enjoyed on WoW breaks was CoH. It's a blast, and easy to get into. Plus, CoV makes it pretty good, too.

Hope you find what you're looking for, but rogues aren't that badly nerfed, especially if you're a sword rogue (I'm not, I'm a dagger rogue, but I know both sides).

Try DAOC, its the best option atm.

DOAC is still the MMO I judge other games by, My first and still my favorite.

I definitely recommend you to try EQ2. It is the best MMORPG right now.

However, keep an eye on Darkfall, Vanguard and Age of Conan. I hope one of those 3 will be better.

Ya I'm looking for a WoW replacement as well.  Been playing it for almost 2 years now and it's just gotten really old and tiring.  I'm enjoying Oblivion and Quake 4 in the meantime until I can find another mmorpg I think looks good.

Just to clear the patch thing up. The last patch was 1.10 and was geared towards priests. When that was in production it was stated very clearly that mages will be for 1.11 or the next major patch. Patch 1.12 is probably shamans then after that most likely rogues. However I hear blizz will save rogues to last because they still think the class is fine and is in no ned of improvement (this is one of the reasons I quit).

Right now I am playing CoV and it is fun. But this is just the trial and I don't think I would want to buy it because it really is repetative.

The game that looks like a great WoW replacement is Age of Conan. Very nice looking graphics looks like a great combat system, the classes vary greatly to where they become their own classes. Potentially great PvP. Oh right there are also bar room brawls just like I like it ;)

Thanks for the help guys and if you have any more ideas I will gladly research them.

I'm going back to Lineage 2 after 1 year of WoW. In the end, although it can be very fun at times, WoW is not a long term game.

Lineage 2 can be a nightmare at times but at least it stirs up some emotions and gets your adrenaline pumping...And people don't reach max level in 2 weeks =S

I'm just hoping it won't take me 4 months before I actually bump into another player ^^ (bots don't count)

One thing I really don't like about L2 however is the AFK store system. IE: you need to leave your char online all night in "store mode" if you want to sell anything (no AH like in WoW) and that's just lame IMO. Oh well,no game is perfect.

But it's definately worth a try if you haven't already, 100 times more absorbing/immersive than WoW.

    Good luck!

Yeah too bad you have to pay for all the new content on top your monthly subsciption (really makes you wonder why there is one in the first place). I agree though, EQ2 is a very solid game. I don't like the excessive instancing but that's just a question of personal taste. Crafting seemed awesome back when I tried it, very complexe and interactive.

There's no way in hell I'm giving anymore of my money to SOE though ;)
