I have to say that I'm having some issues with my school's dress code. They list a bunch of things that you can't wear because they might be considered offensive or distracting, but they don't list religious symbols. A kid wore a shirt with a large cross on it that advertised his church and they didn't have a problem with it. Well, I had a big problem with it. I'm currently in the process of setting up a meeting with the vice princible to see how we could adress this. I'm just saying that they should either add religious symbols to the list of things you can't bring to school or cut out, like, everything else. I know that I was pretty majorly offended by that cross and I don't think I should have to put up with that and then be told that I can' wear something because it might be offensive. Or told that I can't say certain words because they're offensive, but that's semi-off topic. I mean, it's a good thing that you're not allowed to pray in school, but you may as well be if you can walk around with a cross.
I know some religious people will probably flame this. Then again, I don't really care... Hmm, funny how that works. Anyway, I'm not really looking to offend anyone. I'm looking for some answers.

your life expectancy before doing that. 75 to 80 years(about average)
your life expectancy now you wont live to 20....
98% of the teenage population does or has tried smoking pot. If you''re one of the 2% who hasn''t, copy & paste this in your signature.
You know, at first I thought you were being kind of facetious, or sarcastic...
But you're actually serious...Hrm. Wow...Being offended by a cross.
Get counselling, and soon.
Yeah, seriously. I live in a town that only has as many restaurants as it does churches because another restaurant just opened sometime within the last week. ... Also, I live in Alaska. There are so many crazy religious people up here...
Oh well. It's something I believe in. If someone tries to mess with me because of it, I'll amass a group of non-religious people to defend me! Ok, well, that'd never work. I'll probably have people trying to kick my ass left and right, but the school wouldn't let that happen. I mean, they have an aid for me. The person was originally put there to make sure I didn't start shit, but I'm sure they would at the very least report people trying to kick my ass. Unfortunately, the religious people that'd hate me because of this far outnumber any support I would ever get here...
Also, I very highly doubt I'd live to be 80, no matter what I do. I just can't see myself living past 30... Not because of poor health or anything, but I just don't see myself living that long. If only because I don't think I could hold down a job if I tried, don't have any friends, or any opportunities.
4 years in the Army. That'll cure ya.
No annoying animated GIF here!
I would like to post the reasons for my being offended, but I'm afraid it would start a flame war and I'd be banned again... I'll just say this: I was raised Christian, but I don't do that anymore. I don't like being lied to, and I believe in what the evidence points to.
Also, I've had plenty of counseling. It doesn't really do anything. Talking to someone won't make me feel any differently. It's the same reason I'm offended by cops. Authority. They can claim to be right, but I can't tell them they're wrong. It's messed up.
ROFL Xenduli you could cut and paste that as an answer to just about everything and 80% of the time youd be right
As for the OT. Schools are private institutions. they can set whatever rules they want as long as they dont breach State or Federal laws.
So suck it down

I'm not gonna comment about what you plan to do. I go with the live and let live philosophy. If it's not pushed on me, I have no problem with it. However, these "religious ass beating gangs" your talking about seem like they have bigger problems then you do anyway. I know it hasn't been proven by Christian history, but if you start violence in the name of God, you've got some explaining to do when you hit the Pearly Gates. I'm pretty sure that goes against the "What would Jesus do?" test. Think that message got lost somewhere in translation, even though Jesus says it A LOT.

Noone expected.
I've made like four posts that I've had to write a second time because it just doesn't show up. It's bullshit.
I don't support Satanists because I don't support religions. Especially those who could be classified as "dark", but whatever. Just saying that I wouldn't walk in wearing anything of any sort of religious nature. I would like a shirt that denounces every known religion out there, though. Because that's my belief, and they shouldn't give my rights to those who's belief match their own twisted world view. You know what I mean?
Actually, that's not true. I really only have a problem with Christianity. I mean, I'd have a problem with the others too if people from other religions continually mentioned their beliefs as though they were fact around me. I mean, I shouldn't have to put up with religious banter in a public school. This is how wars get started, I tell you. I think that if you want to be a religious person, go to a religious "school".
Judging from you guys' responses, however, it seems I chose the wrong site to post this on. I don't really know why so many people out there are religious, but they need to learn to accept reality.
Im a dictionary definition of an agnostic.
Reality is that many people believe many different things and the first step towards developing a mature, responsible belief system of your own, is not dismissing the beliefs of others. Since at the end of the day, none of use can prove anything one way or the other. The pope has no better ability to support his assertions than Darwin did, or you do. FACT!

Yeah, that is a fact. That whole "reality" thing I said was way too harsh. I think I just hit the "calm down stage" of being tired, because I'm suddenly not feeling as offended by anything as I was a couple minutes ago.
But just because I can't prove we're not all magic, formless beings on the inside doesn't mean it's not true. Forgive me, I'm just overly sensitive because there are so many religious people where I live. I can't go a single day without hearing some kind of reference to Christianity. I'm afraid it's made me rather bitter...
Well, we can at least hope I'm not so crazy people won't speak to me, can't we? Ah, you guys really aren't so bad, you know. I mean, I see now why people say you should live and let live. It's just that it can be stressful, you know? Having a belief constantly thrust in your face when it's not your own. It's like everyone is saying "You're wrong!" to me and I can only take so much. I'm afraid I'm on the breaking point. Soon I'll have a break down and they'll finally be able to send me away... Oh, this isn't a stage I like. It seems I've slipped into a sort of self examination stage. When I take a step back and look at reality, I always see myself breaking down the line...
I think religion has a place in school systems (cant believe Im saying that) but it has to be framed in the context of being "here is a thing called religion, it exists and there are lots of them".
As opposed to "here is the only religion you should know about, dont dare believe anything else and dont dare question whether it is right, just accept it and stop thinking"
The latter is not right for young people, they should be presented with the options and allowed to decide for themselves.
In my humble, worthless opinion anyway.
.... I mean lets face it... the reason the world is in the state its in right now is because people like Bin Laden and Bush are both ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that what they believe is the only singular right way to go.
Id love to be a fly on the wall in whatever place these two end up after death to see the looks on one or both of their faces when they discover that actually Bhudism is right and they were both wrong... On the available evidence even the dewds from Raelianism have as much to support thier theories as the next bunch of claimants.
He could be right ya know...

No, it seriously had an ad for his church right under it. Like, I don't remember the exact wording, but it was something about a "ministry". That's the only word I remember from it, since it was a week and a half ago, but still...
AlexAmore: Yeah, I see your point. I didn't mean to sound harsh, dude. You're cool. I'm just saying that I wouldn't feel comfortable. I know it's messed up, but... I don't know. And besides, that would ruin my chances of ever making any friends there. I know that sounds like kind of a puss thing to say, but it's true. I've gone to the school 3 years now and I'm more social than I ever was. That's not saying much, though, It just means now I speak when I feel like it now. Kind of gotten over the whole issue I have with crowds. Well, no I haven't, but I don't mind them as much.
I too am agnostic, however I've studied Theology pretty hardcore. It's a hobby of mine. I don't exactly believe in God, but I sure find him interesting as hell (literally, lol). I've read all 24 out of 33 Gospels, don't know too many Christians who can say that. The Quran, the Torah. Know what I've found? They are all the same. They all teach the same things. The problem lies in the fact that they are all so open to interperitation that if you want to read something in their texts, you'll probably find it.
To the OP. Learn to pick your battles. You can't win them all. Don't sweat the small stuff, and everything is small stuff. You seem to have this idealist view that because you see the world the way you see it you have the right to cast some moral superiority. That to not conform puts you on some sort of pedistal. I'm all for being a non-conformist, but don't expect a freakin medal. There is no rule book that says if you don't play the game like the rest of the players you win. It's all well and good to not conform to the norm, but don't expect an easy ride. You are only making it more difficult on yourself. Which is great, builds character. But don't belittle the people who choose a different road. For all you know they are right. For all I know, you are right. See what I mean? None of us know shit.
EDIT
Know what? I was gonna come in and edit that last paragraph out after reading the posts that came up while I was typing it, but then I figured "Hey, I said it, I don't take it back". I apoligize if it seemed like I came down on the OP. I stand by what I said, but I decided to make a suggestion for you. It's what worked for me, I come from a very small Christian community, and I'm not Christian. Learn EVERYTHING you can about Religion. Christianity, Bhudism, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism ...everything. Learn more about their religion than they do. And use it. Everytime someone pushed something in their face, push something back. Everytime someone says something you know is wrong, correct them and tell them to look it up. Debate them on even terms. Know their arguments before they do. I've not only come to terms with my own faith in whatever i believe, but I've made a few hardcore Christians give serious thought to what they have put blind faith in.

Well your doing better than me... Im 40y/o in 3 weeks time
I dont even like shopping malls, let alone anything more crowded than that... Evertime I fly somewhere I feel like a cow walking that last 20 feet as I walk up the ramp into the plane... just expecting someone to give me the spring loaded steel bolt to the back of the head anytime.

Hehe I hear ya. When I was younger, I went because of my friends to a Christian group every weekend. We would play pool, chat..ect and then they would pray and talk about Jesus and then hang out and chat about stuff. It was pretty fun and everyone was nice. I was the only non-christian though..so it was interesting. (I didn't go because of my parents, they aren't Christian either)
So one time there was a Christian camp that lasted a week and I went... My beliefs were challenged everyday not just directly but indirectly most of the time. They weren't mean, but you knew everyone thought you were going to Hell. It was tough sometimes and I actually broke down and started crying (I was a little younger though). It was a very emotional time in my life. In the end i'm glad I went.

Yeah, well, that's not the only reason I'm meeting with the VP, by the way.
The deal the school set up in order to let me back says that my father has to walk me into the building every morning. I don't know why, but I know it's bullshit. I mean, I had written reports from doctors saying I wasn't a threat. Apparently I intimidated some people or something, I don't know. I know they said that the first day I was there, I caused some sort of trouble during lunch. That's also bullshit since the first lunch break I had there I sat on the floor trying to breath for the full 45 minutes. Like I said, I'm not good with crowds.
Yeah, and these are the people I have to deal with. Bah, what do you care. If anything, I'm giving people material to hold over my head. It's just embarrassing to have to be walked into the building by your father when you're 16 years old. Doesn't help convince people that I'm not crazy, that's for sure. Though, I don't think the hole in the wall helped very much with that, either. I'm a fool and I do foolish things. Had to pay the school $80, and it sucked.
Also, I'm extremely infuriated at the mere sight of some people. Some people it takes them saying rude things to me, but one kid in particular makes me so angry. He introduced himself by repeatedly pushing me and saying "What're you going to do about it." and now he just stays away from me. For a while he tried to act buddy-buddy, but that didn't fly. In fact, I was put in the same class as this kid at the start of this year. I got up, exclaimed that it was bullshit, and left the room. And it was bullshit, because the school had said they would make sure not to put me into a class with him. Ah, well, it doesn't matter.
Guess I really shouldn't give even more reasons for people to think I'm crazy. I mean, I get along fairly well with people who don't try to exert authority. I almost even have friends in my classes. I don't, of course, have any actual friends in the school, though. Like I said, in my classes. The type of people you talk to in class, but who you don't know outside of the class. Yeah, them... That's depressing.
The Millenium Lee
Yeah, I've been told that several times. The work's just too tedious sometimes. I mean, I got no credit for my first year there, and less than half the credit for my second year. It'd be one thing if it were for grades, but it was all because I yelled at the princible one time. I didn't even threaten him, but that doesn't really matter. I guess what matters is, like you said, just getting through it. Unfortunately, I don't see myself "just getting through it". I'll most likely die without making any contribution to society, but I guess that doesn't really matter. If someone plans on having much of a career after high school, I guess that's when grades matter most. I'm not particularly intellegent, and I've come up with a phrase that I think sums up my memory fairly well: "I've got a memory like fly paper. Lots of little things stick, but anything of any significance tears intself free within an hour."... I'm pretty sure I made that up. I don't know...
The only reason my grades are as good as they are is because of the power of guesswork. I can take a test after having only skimmed through the material for a few minutes and get at least a C. That's about my only skill that I can think of at the moment. Well, that and I can keep a stair face and say things that are complete bullshit, but I can't see that having much of a use.
So, here's to finding a skill I can turn into profit! And I hope I'll be ok...
