Game Review

I am a returning vet player from Darkfall Online.  I never played Unholy Wars past the first week because I could see it was a step backwards from the original game.

I have been playing New Dawn for about 1 month now and I am extremely impressed with the changes Ubergames have made.  In 1 month time Ubergames has done more the Darkfall than Aventurine did in a year.

The dev team is very talented and seems to grasp the code they purchased well.  They understand the core problems of Darkfall and are making changes for the better.  They are adding purpose to the game and making race and alignment matter.  The game is in development currently and I am a paying customer.

This is a great time to try the game out if you are on the fence.  It is an open world full loot mmo.  Nothing compares to the adventures you will have here.

If you are thinking about trying but don't want to pay money, the devs said they will be offering more free trial periods during the in development phase of the game.  So go take a look at the forums and keep your eye on a trial.

There is a good patch coming this Friday.

Some things that kept people playing before was the power gap and the grind.  Both are no longer an issue.  All the skills have been front loaded.  For example 80% of the bonus from strength comes from 1-50, with only 20% coming from 50-100.

Getting skills to 50 is a more than viable spot for pvp.

They have already changed villages to lawless areas 30 minutes fore they go live, which promotes more pvp.  More village changes on the way.

This Friday skill experience will be determined by damaged done to the monster.  There will also be a experience multiplier for harder monsters.  So leveling on the goblins with rank 0 weapons will be the slowest way to level.

This will get more people out in the world fighting monsters instead of leveling skills near town.  This will also promote people wearing better gear while farming.

I will drop back in and post changes as they come.  They are patching every 2 weeks.

The game is still moving at a decent pace and the changes made are much needed.  I recently came back to test some of the new content.

Monsters now scale depending on how many players are in your group.  More players = harder monsters, more monsters, and more loot.  Also a experience bonus is given for each member in the party.  This encourages grouping and social behavior.  Also people are more likely to invite other players to the group when they see them, rather than kill someone on sight.

Currently the armor is being re worked with traits buffing the roles of the armor.  For example, leather gives melee/archery speed and damage bonus.  Robes give spell magnitude/haste and mana regeneration.

Overall the game is very enjoyable in it's current state and I cannot wait for more.

There was a change to harvesting that got reverted this patch but will be added back in soon.  Harvesting nodes in town will yield very little ore.  Nodes will have more ore based on distance away from a bank.  That includes, NPC, Clan, and Village banks.  Also the chance to find rare ore will increase with the distance.

I am really waiting for local banking and the conquest system to be added.  Having a chance to form local communities will really give this game a truly sandbox feel.
