wow are you ever insulting. she only asked for suggestions NOT attacks. she also asked about MMOs and not games on Nintendo systems.

try acting with a bit more decorum instead of attacking people and calling them "gay".

One of my favorite games is Guild Wars. It is based on fighting, but there's also quests that don't involve fighting and guilds you can join and just chill with. Not to mention, the scenery is great. But like someone posted before me, Puzzle Pirates is also a great game. The only fighting in that game is by puzzles. It's a small download and easy to get started. Here's the link: http://www.puzzlepirates.com/
    Note: THERE ARE FREE SERVERS.
People think it's only P2P (Pay 2 Play), but it's not. You just need to change to a free server, such as Viridian.

    *lol*
I can picture Jackcolt sitting in his chair and asking himself where he has been sexist in his post.

Well you been sexist by generalizing: It's because there isn't really a game only appealing to girls, while not being barbies horseback adventures or the likes of it.

Which would be fine, I guess, if you would have sent the OP a private message.

Well your native language isnt English (neither is mine, you are from Denmark right?), so you should get the benefit of the doubt that you didnt mean to generalize even your english is very good for a 17 year old.

Besides the topic is stereotype and sexist itself, so you shouldnt be suprised to get a stereotype and sexist answer.

Cyber_Geek, what does DS mean? Not that I think your post was very informative, usefull, or thought through but I am still interested what kind of useless shortcuts for words there are.

    Linky --> Nintendo DS

It is the favorite of RPG players BTW because of all the Gameboy Advanced reissued RPGs available on it.

Ooooh ok so DS means Dual Screen. Maybe it isnt such a useless shortcut as I thought it would be.
    Thanks for the link.

I know what you mean. I don't like console games, but when I play, I usually end up liking kid games better. I don't want to be a robot, be in a war, etc. However, online games are different. I like the environment.

If you're like me, you would like City of Heroes/Villains because the characters are cute, the whole game is pretty cute, and even though there's fighting, it doesn't really feel like dirty, gritty fighting like other games. I also liked WoW because the graphics were very cartoony and pretty. Gnomes are the cutest things ever.

I would steer clear of "social" games like There, Second Life and The Sims Online because they're just a large chat room with some stuff to do in them. Personally, I think they're pretty pathetic. I don't think they appeal to the majority of female gamers, or females in general. Ick.

Hello Kitty Online may be for kids, and may be pretty basic, but I plan on getting it just to try it out and see what it's like. :) I love all things cute.

i suggested the social games because there isn't fighting involved (someone else says there is. but probably less?). i actually DO know females (and males) that enjoy both Second Life and There. so don't assume. :P

if it's just a cutesy aspect the OP wants then i guess Hello Kitty Online would work. a bit too sugary for my likings tho. i'm a female that likes the grit over the sparkles. and i grew-up on Hello Kitty.

There is a Hello Kitty Online in development for girls (and some boys). Why don't you play what we are playing now. Games are attracted to both male and females right? Why would you want to play just some mmorpg for girls?

    <---- Girl Gamer

I'm tired of WoW, been playing it for over a year now.  I tried DaoC (good, but buggy and inconvienent controls/UI) and Horizens (eh) and Sims Online (Didn't like it), and I played Ultima Online when I was 12, and again when I was 15.

I looked at EVE online but it seemed like it was hardcore PvP which I don't want, plus no personal avatars.

I want a Harvest Moon MMO  *grin*

I'd like to suggest to the op, that instead of saying "what girl games can i play", list the things you like in an mmo and then let people help you based on that. As you can see from this thread, there are a million different assumptions about what a girl game is. I dont like anime. I dont like cute and cuddley things, i like pvp, and im a girl, so that pretty much rules out everything people have listed as girl games. It also just opens a big can of worms.

p.s. a "social game" doesnt mean a non combat game.

I dont know of any great games right now, but roma Victor and vanguard both look like they will have appealing non-combat features. I just hope they make it and not bomb like DnL

I played 3 games that might be fun for a girly girl.

Flyff- since it has cute characters and accessories, Being an assist can be fun!

Ragnarok Online- it has a variety of character classes that has really cute characters! Although their clothes can't be changed in their physical appearance the Job Classes also have accesories like CowBoy hats and Blush. It's not totally girly though.

ROSE Online- you can try being a muse? Their really cute too.

Sorry if I might seem like your typical girly girl. There are alot of cool MMORPGs which characters are both fun and fashionable.

You can enjoy ALOT of games. That're not focused on fighting but still have fun. But that same intense feeling of PvP is just irreplaceable sometimes.

Genders aside, I think any normal person should avoid Second Life. Appearantly it's the favoured tool of people who get their 'groove on' by seeing obese humanoid animals.

Personally I'd prefer a game that doesn't concentrate on fighting, but neither on only chatting. I find it awkward to call it 'girly', the term 'peaceful' sounds better then.

I've spent some time thinking about this. I guess it comes down to "what is a girl" (laughs) there is no such thing as a standard girl.

My stepmother plays MMOs for example. We have three computers, and three seperate accounts for most games, so me, my dad, and my stepmother (yeah I live at home at 30, but we have a big basement I call my own) can all play at the same time and coordinate when we want to.

I've also met large numbers of girl gamers IRL, so I know they are out there. Oddly you'll find that a lot of them wind up playing male characters.

In general you've got the cubicle queens who are just killing time at work like a lot of the white collar guys who play. Their job doesn't involve doing anything so they play MMOs 8 hours a day while they "work". You've got the teeny girls, you've got the geek girls, and of course the 800 pound shut ins who are probably the most common (no offense to anyone).

In general there are a lot of girls who are into the whole horror/goth thing, and then there are ones who want to do everything guys do and revel in combat and bloodshed more than anyone. You've also got the ones who feel the internet is a safe (anonymous) forum for experimenting with their sexuality and hot chatting and such. In general I don't get involved in any online romance not because I'm afraid that hot girl might be a guy IRL, but because I'm concerned she'll turn out to only be 13 or something and an enraged father will call the FBI. :)

Okay rambling aside, your going to find that by their very nature MMOs are going to feature combat and adventure, they exist to get away from real life. Typically "girly" productions that are grounded solidly in real life (but lead to exagerrations of wealth and fashion and such) just don't mesh well with the genere, although there are various graphical chat modes like the "Second Life" someone mentioned that can fit this general role.

A lot of the real girls I've met who had such "typical" interests were in Star Wars Galaxies, playing Cantina Dancers/Musicians and whining about all the 'bots. Since they had a captive audience coming to get rid of BF they met a lot of people and then spent all day chatting while they ran through their macros. Such a character involves nothing but standing there, and watching animations, while occasionally changing outfits or insturments for fun. Of course keep in mind that this was not exactly peaceful as battles (duels) would go on in the Cantinas constantly. Heck, half the Jedi in the game who advanced their level would sit around the Cantinas 24/7 with a couple of friends and fight Bounty Hunters constantly. :)

If you want my opinion the two big things they could do to get women to play MMOs in greater numbers are:

    1. Gore Fest Online Horror: Let them play overendowed vampire queens and wallow in blood. Trust me, there is a whole market for this kind of thing out there. It seems a lot of women eat, sleep, and breathe this junk. Granted there are a lot of romantic sub-plots, but girl gamers generate those on their own whenever they want to anyway.

    2. Gor Online: When it comes to sex and stuff women are far worse than men. Trust me, take a walk away from the science fiction counter sometime and look at all the romance novels. "Romance" contrary to popular belief does not simply involve emotion and the exchange of endearment. The term "porn under a differant label" comes to mind, and I've read a few.

At any rate, strangely one of the fantasy series I've noticed the most women have read is the old bondage/domination fetish series "Gor". Oddly, as sexist as it sounds, and all protests aside, it seems like girls come out of the woodwork for anonymous erotic play with people. Produce a game where you drag women around on leashes and stuff and you'd be shocked at how many would come out of the woodwork to do it (a lot of pervo guys playing women too, but that's something else entirely).

I know this because back when I used to do MUDs there were a few out there where you needed to make voice calls to prove your gender and such before you could play. One was a Gor themed game where there was no shortage of slave girls, and "panther women" running around hoping some studdly member of the Warrior Caste would come and break them. Another was a "Wheel Of Time" based game where cross-gender play was allowed but oddly you found the majority of the players doing a Sul'Dam/Damane team, oftentimes mixed gender IRL. Women were all over the game turning it into a hack and slash Aes Sedai / Seanchan bondage soap opera.

I'm talking from experience here, so hopefully noone will gripe too much. All told while it doesn't answer the question exactly, if they want to make a game to attract a higher proportion of women they need to go horror and/or totally 'Unrated' for sexual content and start playing around with some of the weirder and less traditional fantasy elements.

Otherwise, when it comes to girly stuff it's as much a matter of what you do as much as what game you play. I mean in Ultima Online you could run around with a crook and be a Shepard/Shepardass if you wanted to right from the beginning. In SWG you can do nothing but dance and play music in cantinas. In EVE you can sit around and engage in mass chat while you mine and mine and mine. :)

I didn't read through the whole thread (and somewhat glad i didn't due to the arrogant and ignorant responses of some of these people) but what age is the OP? that might help us determine what she might like as well.

sounds like OP wants a game where she can possibly do crafting instead of fighting or even just socializing.

someone mentioned Second Life and There. I personally haven't played either one so i can't really give a definitive answer to those.

most mmos require fighting to gain experience to level up so i'm not sure how you'd get around that aspect.

  • EsorllehEsorlleh Member Posts: 129

WOW is the number one game amongst women right now.

If you don't like the idea of 'killing' in general try Sims Online. It was the first MMO I somewhat enjoyed (I'm not ashamed to admit it.. and yes I'm a girl) and it provided a nice stepping stone to other MMOs. I haven't tried Second Life but I presume it's another decent choice.

I know plenty of girls who play Lineage2 because the characters are ..'pretty'. If that sounds like you, maybe you can try playing a healer in Lineage2.

I know far more guys that get crazy over girls online than I do girls doing what you're describing.

And even if they are, how can you suggest that they stay off online games altogehter? That's like telling girls to walk around with potato sacks over their bodies because men might come after their booties. Dumbass logic like that might work in some places of the world but not in any country civilized enough for online games.

Pfft. No such thing as girls on the internet.

Listen Asmodeeus, seven years ago, Ultima Online didn't even have those pathetic "quests" that you refer to or those "professions" of ninja, samurai, necromancer, and paladin. Nor did it have any of the neon crap, or bug mounts. It didn't even have any "combat moves." You turned on attack and jousted with simplistic swings. It was a better game then. if you can't guess why then just uninstall the thing and move along. - Crabby

Hmmm...I agree to one of the posts made before about Ragnarok Online, Flyff and R.O.S.E. They've been my favourites so far. Although there is a level of grind and fighing in each of them, PvP isn't compulsory, and there's always quests and partying to look forward to.

Btw, if you dislike fighting, you could always just become a support =). Supports have the most fun anyway in my opinion...

And for the all the sexist comments made in this thread already, *clenches fist*....I'm not going to comment.

    and YES...I am a girl....*sweatdrop*
