Is this a studio only game? Or is there a home version that does not require mortgaging the farm to get?
From what I read you can play solo and NPC's will take the place of your real life crew, you can play local coop, like seen in the video, or online coop which means you don't need to mortgage the farm.
Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.
Now I'll wait for Wizardry to tell us why we should hate it.

I want to watch this badly but he is moving his head too much and I am getting slightly nauseous so I turned it off.
I didn't get nauseous but all those small constant head movements when watching a user VR helmet capture is annoying to watch.
Those with more VR experience or selling the tech do seem better at it - they use less and more fluid head movements. Probably have to train themselves over time to do that.

as a side note there is a chance I might be building myself a VR studio room. If i buy property I really should get a storm shelter given my location so I might make it also a gaming basement
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

Unfortunately I'm a little sensitive even Witcher sense in Witcher 3 gave me nausea and headache and I had to limit my play.
I made it to 20 min in. Just like most other VR "games" there isnt much of a game. Hovernhand here, push VR button on VR control panel and not much else. All they wound up with was an expensive toy to RP Star Trek. Jesus, will all the folks gushing over this also be excited over some VR shaking keyring?

VR porn yeah

That game would be a lot better not in VR... It's no different than a small multi player interactive lobby. Sorry but the purpose of VR is immersion and with all the clunkiness still inerrant to this tech, it just fails at what it suppose to do imo. Surely one day we'll have good VR, but not yet.
And yes, that is what Star Trek fan always wanted, idk why they waited for VR to do it. /sigh
picture if you will using a PC to do this:
Stand up, turn around and walk over to the other players workstation. Pace on the commanders deck.
people not being into VR is one thing, people not seeing how this specific game can take advantage of VR in ways that would painfully clearly would not be 'better' as a PC game is boreline just being intentionally disruptive.

Wow, a Star trek game that actually simulate the show pretty good, awesome.
Yeah, the graphics look somewhat dated and I think it will be a few years before the average VR game start to look good but this is a huge step forward.
Now, if they just can allow a bunch of player run ships in a persistent world and we are getting somewhere.

yeah it basically took the gaming industry about 22 years before it then slowly started to introduce crafting to games. However I do hope that transition happens faster. Why do I say this random thing? because for me I am waiting for content of the 'deeper' kind and I estimate that is still about 2-3 years away

The movement did not bother me. I think watching people play video games is boring so I skipped a head a many times just trying to get the just of each scenario. the hand movement looked really bad, but my guess is someone will figure that out at some point.
It looked like it might be fun. I still am not sold (I am not planning on buying) on VR devices and the landscape of gaming changing with VR.
“It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”

Except everyone just sat in their chairs, both in real life and in the game, worked their "stations" and literally watched their avatar stare at a screen in the game.
If you can't see there was no advantage from the VR setting perhaps its you being intentionally obtuse. (maybe your VR glasses blind you?)

Oh look, a VR game that isn't just glorified shovelware! Too bad the game doesn't make as much use of the medium as it could. This game would be just as fun and immersive without two iPhone screens strapped to your face. There certainly isn't anything here to justify spending $500+ in hardware just to play it.
Until the technology is affordable enough to proliferate itself throughout the gaming community to the point where more than a token few developers start taking it seriously, it will remain as nothing more than an expensive gimmick.

I can understand the excitement being a Star Trek fan myself to get this opportunity to play and imagine you're on a Holodeck for real. Unfortunately there is nothing much to do though it was running on the fumes of the novelty of the setting rather than the scope of VR.
