Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen News - Visionary Realms has announced that it has secured a round of Series A funding, indicating that preferred stock has been sold for investment purposes. The additional funding means that the team can expand across nearly every department. In addition, Pantheon will soon be able to begin inviting testers and focus groups in to try a pre-alpha version of the game.

Sure, traditional funding takes more organization, planning and preparation, but don't we gamers want those types of people making games for us? I think we probably should.
Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.
Sounds all nice but Pantheon did it the right way for what they were doing. No Development team has looked at making a CC, DPS, Support, Tank game like EQ1 since DAoC. Fans of that type of game has not been considered worth funding in 18 years. Someone needed to make a leap of faith and prove that type of fan base is still out there and VR proved that to be true. How? By making it this far off fans who want this game made. Of course investors are now going, wait a min, there is money to be made here. Can I get in on the action. I thank VR for looking at gamers like me and said "We will make a game for you"
hmmm yes and no. There are people out there, with a lot of money who just invest in things because "why not".

Also people invest because they think the vision of a company will make them money.

In the link I posted above VR says. This closed Series A of their funding and moves them to Series B. What that means I am not sure. Is Series A what they needed to get to launch?
I'm not sure about that either, that part is the meter to gauge how great this news truly is, if it does get them to launch, that will certainly heighten my confidence in the product for sure.

Yes that's true but my point was just because a person puts money into a project doesn't mean that research was done and that it was determined that it would definitely make money. It's not a smoking bullet of quality. I say this as a huge fan of this project.
It's important to keep perspective.

I think that's the point...... People DON'T invest in something unless they're confident that they can make their money back. So the real question is how much stock was sold? How much say do the investors get as far as the direction of the game? What concessions were agreed upon? What were the agreed-upon targets for returns and what are the consequences of not making those? Will there be a board of directors and how much power will they have?
I just think there are other factors now, which could influence the original vision.

My guess is you don't move to series B funding if Series A was sufficient to complete and deliver a final product.
No reason to share the profits any further than necessary.

VR Chairman Christopher Rowan said they would not take on investors that didnt follow the vision of Pantheon. So thats a wild claim but anything could happen.
Sounds like sound reasoning.

Unless they are planing on their future and Series B is first expansion funding. The statement is so vague.
True, that said.. the vagueness does make me lean toward what kyleran said, if this totally funded them to launch I think they'd make that point clear. There is an in between though as well, as it could just as easily mean Getting investor A opens the door to B, helping avoid looking elsewhere, such as crowdfunding.

Hey, thanks for that, I wasn't aware that this was said. I mean I'm sure anything could happen, but I'm glad that they, hopefully, expressly looked at investors who were interested exclusively in their vision. Kinda hoping that they don't need to do Series B, to be honest. Fewer cooks in the kitchen.
