Black Desert Online News - With Black Desert Online preparing for a May 24th launch, a handy FAQ has been posted that answers some of the most common questions players have. The most notable question is whether or not "original" BDO accounts can be merged or imported into Steam. The answer is, sadly, no.

Not that I play BDO due to pvp, but I'm curious as to why? Aren't characters tied to an account? Why not just log into your account when you boot up the game?

Can I ask why that's a big deal? I mean, you still have the game, the only thing you can't do is launch through steam.

In this day and age, it is possible to not only share servers and accounts with console ports, but in some cases to even swap freely between them and progress your account through either. How do you even fuck up this badly, that two host clients on the same platform can't share accounts?

While I find the fact that you can not log into your primary account through the steam client curious, I think that your statement is a bit dramatic. When I wanted to buy ESO through the official site It would not let me use my Steam trial account i had played months earlier so I'm not completely surprised they did this. Most likely its something to do with how Steam and their client work together and may be due to the DRM and anti-hack features of the two.

Steam takes a cut from all purchases. This likely applies to microtransactions as well. Around 30% for smaller studios, a little less for large products. I assume the developers want to keep old players paying through their own website, with no steam cut at all.

You're missing the most problematic portion of BDO: That world boss loot revolves around highest damage dealt from a party/players. That even speed hackers have trouble getting loot because so many other players are speed hacking -- that a genuinely good and honest player isn't even CONSIDERED for loot because they have no chance against hackers.

so does this mean they play on two different servers?

I don't think that's the issue. I think the issue is that they've made a deal with Steam. Steam is a business. Why would they have people playing a version of the game on their platform that they bought somewhere else?

F2P games don't have this restriction. It's just games with a box fee. Sometimes they also lock you into buying only through Steam (ESO) and other times not. Someone pointed out a game they aren't locked into microtransactions and subs through Steam like ESO, but I can't remember the game now.

That might be the case but at the moment it's a buy to play game.

So, you were playing without steam, but now that you can't use steam... it's dead to you?  I guess you can say 'First' on the thread, but seriously.

Right. That's what I'm saying. The box fee (B2P) games almost always have a restriction where your purchase outside of Steam doesn't include a Steam copy. I've Kickstarted a couple of games that included a GoG and a Steam key, but most make you choose.

The problem is that they also don't let you bind those keys to the same account. That's on the developer though. ESO and BDO won't let the same account have multiple keys tied to it. FF14 will.

    Gotcha!

Please don't forget to list in the F.A.Q that this game comes with a Root Kit / Malicious software, which is installed without asking permission Called Xing Code, will be my first comments and bad review of this game on steam...

Oh and there is no reason why this game doesn't support steam linking with a Daum Games created account that is just pure developers being lazy to include some extra lines of code.
  • dtan27dtan27 Member UncommonPosts: 32
I think this is an issue with how steam does purchases. There have been similar issues with other MMOs such as FFXIV.

I believe this is a core issue with the steam platform and whatever rules they impose.

Very likely this also means that you will not be able to purchase daum cash from the website anymore but only through steam.

This might be the dumbest comment i've ever read. I have a ranger level 50 with a +10 liverto and i get loot off bosses all the time. In fact leaving characters that arent very geared/under leveled at boss locations is the norm.

Agreed. No idea what that guy is talking about. Boss farming is always going to be a dice roll even in the highest BC tier. It's not going to be your main income or your primary way to get gear.

This is the second time you've posted something blatantly false about ESO. Do you even play?

You can purchase crowns either from Steam or directly from the ESO store and both go into the same account just fine.

This is such a massively short sighted move. Yes I get Steam takes a cut...but the more people you can get to play on the Steam client the higher you rise on the Steam top 100 games. AKA the more people see your game...the more it rises...the more money overall.

    simple.

So you are saying that people only play games because they are steam top 100?
You remind me of cliche IMDB stalkers where they watch top movies of all time and consider themselves as movie gurus.
With this kind of outstanding perception and superhuman projection, why dont you go ahead and open your own business then?

No wait..you are a genius! The more it rises, the more money it makes! right! no one thought about that like never ever. Not even the guys who have been marketing, selling the game.
    But you did my friend!

Anyway, gonna be playing this game with tasty discounts that steam offers as they do with ESO. Zeni screwed us big time when they made the agreement with Steam, now its our turn to take the revenge on BDO.

I understand revenge it is an archaic emotion but does not seem to be something one does to a game you enjoy does it. If you do succeed the game you enjoyed is diminished and that seems to counter your fondness for the game. Basically I do not advocate punishing a company running a game I enjoy because I could lose the game I like in the end. Gamers are a rather vindictive lot but take care you don't hurt the thing you care about in the end.
