One question though. You compared "Prey" to other games on google trend. How you know that this "prey" was not the old game in 2008 and google doesnt have any date of it. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think google trend wasnt even there in 2008. Hence results in a flat straight line
If a game is on steam, i tend to measure a games success by how many reviews it has. At the time of writing this there is 2.5 k reviews for prey. If you compare this to Dishonored 2, which has 9.5k reviews was released in Nov 2016 and has probably been on sale a time or two since then.
I don't think Prey is in trouble if you measure it by this standard
If someone is talking in general chat in a language you dont understand, chances are they're not talking to you. So chill out and stop bitching about it!
Next to no marketing, coupled with Zenimax's new review copy policy is going to make this a sleeper hit at the very best. I think Doom could get away with no review copies, due to it being a more straightforward game to get through and review, with a much larger and impressive legacy/name recognition.
Prey may be contender to game of the year but with Bethesda/Zenimax going after the devs of Prey for the Gods for trademark infringements and having a ridiculous stance on reviews all together then I am not surprised that people are maybe for once voting with their wallets and holding back on this one.
Personally, I have no problem ignoring Prey until it gets a deep, deep sale or just buying it second hand.
I have found in my lifetime, that the beauty of hating stupid people is, that it crosses all racial boundaries.
im enjoying it. it's nothing groundbreaking, really a rehashing of good ideas used throughout FPS history, but it works. it's probably the closest thing you'll ever see to another Half Life game.
Just looked on Steam and read this is by Bethesda? I also see that Denuvo and some other 3rd party agreement nonsense.
The game is VERY hard to figure out because all the videos are showing us short flashes of action which is usually a sign there is little to show.I also see what looks like cool weapons and some decent effects but very little action on screen.I am not even sure the creatures look all that great since everything is just short flashes of action. I would have to sum it up by saying ,at 80 bucks it is too much, maybe at 30 i might give it a try...maybe.

game of the year you say?

I like this game a LOT, spent around 7-10 hours already in the demo alone just finding every little thing in all the nooks and crannies and hidden stuff that is in just that section that is available to you. Combat could be a little more refined - it isn't though, and there's a ton of content to explore in an open world that is more vertical than horizontal, which I love. It's exploration of a massive station instead of fields and mountains for a refreshing change of pace, and as far as google trends go, it sounds as though OP is just trying to find something to needle at the game with because he doesn't like it.

I don't know why you would think I don't like the game. Read the article. This was something I found interesting and disappointing.

The second it gets cracked this will change, as people will be looking to pirate it. Gameplay from what I hear its simmlar to systemshock 1/2. I'm intersted, but I don't feel its worth a 80 dollar canadian price tag. Honestly MOST AAA games aren't worth their price tag. I don't care much about graphics what I do care about is gameplay and many AAA games just sadly fail in that aspect. When you have more fun in a 10-20 dollar indie game than you do in a 80 dollar high budget game there are issues there... Serious issues the company that produced it should look into to improve it.
Also since some people on here seem too stupid to notice, what he was saying was that the average person is not showing any interest in it based on google trend results. Compared to other games like fallout 3/4, and persona 5. Which means bascally that while its launch was probally decent, the lack of average consumer interest will hurt sales down the line. or at least thats how *I* take it. I know of prey but i've never bothered to search google for stuff on it since I don't care enough. To me its too expensive of a game title for what it is, if it was like 40 canadian or less though I'd probally consider it.
I also believe strongy in try before you buy in todays age of digital games, If I am unsure i'll wait till I can play the game in some way. Then if I like it, I buy it, if I don't I just delete it and move on. TBH though I am much more cautions with AAA games, due to their tendancy to be way overpriced I tend to be more picky. I might check Prey out if it has a pc demo, As I linked systemshock 1/2. I refuse to play anything where you need to aim on a console because the unresponsiveness of a controller for aiming annoys the hell out of me, its either to jerky, or just too slow. Mostly the jerkiness, I wanna move very slightly right, insted it moves it in a jump completly going off target even if I move the analogstick only slightly.

Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:
A. Proven right (if something bad happens)
or
B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)
Either way, you can't lose! Try it out sometime!

PlayStation 4 has the control issues SO BAD. People are pegging it as input lag but it's compounded by some weird acceleration issues on top of it. Dishonored 2 had the same thing. Lesson: buy on PC.
Actually, Dishonored 2 had major problems on PC too. WHAT IS THE LESSON?!?!?
I'll leave this here for you and say I agree with Suzie. It's divisive, but Prey is one of this year's best - bar none - http://www.gamespace.com/prey/review/
One of the best games i have played in a LOOOOONG time..I agree
So is this just another FPS with a mystery/thriller storyline and "solid gunplay"? Or is there some kind of innovative gameplay element that's unique or is applied within this title in a fresh manner?
I looked at some gameplay videos, but I couldn't find anything very innovative about the title. Maybe that's part of the reason gamer interest is at a level best described as "meh".
It's really not that super innovative, but It's a game that follows the formula of System Shock with a complete base at your disposal and it's your job to find out what happened..and It's masterfully done.
This is probably the best game this year and then some

That's cool, just not something I'm interested in slogging through at a $60 entry fee in today's landscape.
I'm glad folks are enjoying a new release, and the reviews all seem to mention the story is good... So I may pick it up on sale sometime over the holidays.

Pardon my English as it is not my 1st language
Its not a sequel, its a reboot. It has nothing to do with the original Prey other than the title.
I think someone said same dev as Dishonored, well i love the Dishonored series so i will try and research this game some more.

Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.
