So is this just another FPS with a mystery/thriller storyline and "solid gunplay"? Or is there some kind of innovative gameplay element that's unique or is applied within this title in a fresh manner?
I looked at some gameplay videos, but I couldn't find anything very innovative about the title. Maybe that's part of the reason gamer interest is at a level best described as "meh".
It's really not that super innovative, but It's a game that follows the formula of System Shock with a complete base at your disposal and it's your job to find out what happened..and It's masterfully done.
This is probably the best game this year and then some
That's cool, just not something I'm interested in slogging through at a $60 entry fee in today's landscape.
I'm glad folks are enjoying a new release, and the reviews all seem to mention the story is good... So I may pick it up on sale sometime over the holidays.
Same.
As much as I like these System Shock type shooters, I don't think I've ever paid full price for one. I don't find them very re-playable and they tend to be short. But I do enjoy going through them once... eventually.

..."Innovation" is mostly worshipped in the mmo circles. ....
lol...not even remotely true
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

lol.....lol...no...not even
Whatever ridiculous fringe corner case you've invented fits in the "mostly " part of the sentence because it is irrelevant compared to the entire industry.
completely lost as to what you are saying.
no....MMO circles are NOT mostly innovative.
now more innovative then shooters? yeah but that is not a very high bar

If this is slogging then these games probably aren't for you. In my opinion shooter fans are more interested in solid gameplay than innovation. "Innovation" is mostly worshipped in the mmo circles. For fps horror experience and immersion are key.
They used to be. I preordered Bioshock and loved it, but I've since lost taste for them. Things like Portal do interest me as they are far different than most offerings, but the last FPS I played was Titanfall 2 on the console, and I got about 4 hours in before I lost interest in continuing the campaign. Nothing particularly wrong with the experience; I just never had the urge to boot it back up. That might seem crabby, but I have dozens of games installed or bought on my Steam/GOG account that have never been completed not because any one feature or bug put me off of them, but just because I lost interest in continuing to spend time on them. It's helped me learn, very specifically, what features of a game will keep my interest piqued long enough to get my money's worth.
Christopher Coke, you should give up writing. Did you stamp clueless on your forehead before you wrote it?
Just looking at the reviews on Steam they are overwhelmingly positive. Bad games don't get reviews like that. Do some research before you make a fool of yourself.
Personally, I found the game quite enjoyable. I find I generally dislike both the horror genre out of the gate, and the fps genre has lost favor with me over the years, so I have to think that says something. As to bugs, I realize others may have had issues, but playing on the PC here I never had a single issue (aside from a nightmare staring at me instead of attacking during one fight, if you can count that).
As to gameplay, the moment I fired it up, it fealt like I stepped into Half-Life 3, and I didn't put the game down until I completed it. Standard fps fare, with what I thought was an excellent story mixed with stellar graphics. The variety of abilities at your disposal can drastically change how you play the game though as well, so what was standard fps fare to me, could be a stealth driven, lightning-ball slinging/mimic everything that moved pseudo-science fest.
if you like bioshock you'll like prey, it is the same kind of feel, you get alien powers instead of those....shot thingies , or you can go completely non powers , either way is just as fun, i loved the game, its just too bad there is currently no new game plus. oh and you need an at least ok pc, some of the puzzles require you to look at things in the area on the walls, but you cant read them on medium settings
I'll look at it when it goes on sale. The only thing this version of Prey has to do with the original are familiar looking monsters. Trying to tie this game to the original makes no sense whatsoever. They'd have been better off not associating it to the original.
The original game isn't the greatest or worst thing around but did have some interesting aspects.

Sorry to necro this but there are no closer threads. Been meaning to try this game to see if I can stomach the fps fov (some games I can DEHR, some I cant HL2, Dying Light) but to those that do like it they have a big update and some dlc.

As far as nausea inducing:
The parts where gravity is active will be exactly like Deus Ex.
The parts where gravity is absent or weak though, may give you trouble.

Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.

'But there are many. You can play them entirely solo, and even offline. Also, you are wrong by default.'

'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.
It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.
It is just huge resource waste....'
