As a Wing Commander fan, I really hope that Squadron 42 comes out this year. The persistent universe will most certainly take a few more years to develop
It's interesting to see how the "game" is in exactly the same stage as it was back in 2014 when I've dumped all my backer packages after a year of waiting (with +100% profit, mind you): a temporary tech demo to fool more people, get more money and build more complicated (but still temporary) tech demo to fool more people.
edit: used quotes for "game". Cannot use this term without quotes for yet another temporary tech demo.

Cool little features... The game is finally shaping up to somewhat of a pre alpha stage.... Which means a lot can still go wrong.. And it might not release... But yeah... They do seem to have many little features ready, let's see how it all works on the bigger scale.
Basically clicking away text windows ruins every MMO, try to have fun instead of rushing things. Without story and lore all there is left is a bunch of mechanics. Reply Add Multi-Quote

Not a chance it'll release this year imo.
Not a chance it will ever release
oh dear lol it is inevitable
I believe that it WILL eventually release, of course that this gigantic ambitious project just takes many years to develop, just have faith on the man behind the project, Chris Roberts himself. This isn´t like making a single player Pac-Man game

It's not so much a question of having faith as it's a question of having more than $20 million a year.
One of the all time great exposes (that they filmed themselves) yet even after this people have continued to send them money. Not sure how much has gone to them since then but anyone sending money after this video deserves everything they (dont) get.....
I can wait for a finished, tested, polished sci-fi sandbox game. Been waiting for it ever since SWG. Will most likely play it for 10+ years like i played SWG.
Have fun
PS: Here is what i said in the older thread:
"Does it matter if it takes longer to develop ? No! Not
if the end result is why we backers support this project.
We give CIG the time and the money. Many people do not understand this. We do."

Cherry picking your own comments will always help make you look cooler in retrospect. So, yeah, you said you where ready to wait, but you statements at the time indicate that you did not think you where going to be still waiting two years later. In fact you pretty actively argued that that would not be the case. Please do remember that most of your defesive comments about delays in 2015 where due to SC being under fire for breaking the original 2014 delivery deadline, while you argued that it would be perfectly resonable to expect them to be able to deliver according to thier new timeline.
In short, CIG cannot be trusted with any kind of timeline, but you have decided that you do not care, which is fair enough, but you cant blame the rest of us for mocking any timeline they put out at this point.
but you statements at the time indicate that you did not think you where going to be still waiting two years later.

That is your personal - incorrect - interpretation.
This is what i said:
"...Does it matter if it takes longer to develop ? No!"
We have the timeline .. which shows the progress AND the delays. They ARE making progress. That is all that matters to me.
The so called "2014 delivery deadline" was already obsolete in Nov 2012 at the end of the Kickstarter campaign ... I am sure some fools will still post that deadline years after the game has launched.
I really think they should stop making these videos. Its like watching Capt Picard. Star Citizen log 49735.53 . There is no sign of a release. But progress has been made. Although 3426 more things have been added to the list of things due to come. We may reach our goal in our life time. Although maybe not. But the search no matter how many light years away might some day be found. Until we reach our goal, or my off spring take control .I'm signing off. As normal ,releasing this video I will also be printing copies of the transcripts and dropping them off in a bottle in every known body of water. Cat Picard out.
I really think they should stop making these videos. >>>
I hope they do not stop. Because there are people like me that specifically give them money to make those videos. Its a voluntary (!) subscriber option to support the creation of material for the Star Citizen community.
>>>>

Feel free to name those 3426 things. I think this will not be easy for you, because it is factually untrue and even lame when used as a propaganda tool.
No new stretch goals have been added after the 65 M$ stretch goal ... and that was years ago (and we are at almost 150 M$ nowadays).
Not every "would be nice to have and we may have that at some point in the future after the game has launched" mentioned in a community video is automatically a "thing due to come". Listing "everything and the kitchen sink" as mandatory SC feature is just a propaganda technique used by the "commandoes" from SA.com in their troll crusade against Star Citizen.
Let us not forget that in the end Captain Picard was one of the most famous heroes of the Federation. There are worse things you could do than comparing Star Citizen and Captain Picard.
You where arguing that we would see the game "come together" during 2015.
We were both very wrong.
You can call people haters all you want, but this is just getting downright silly.
*reads through the old thread from 2 years ago*
....wow, it reads almost exactly like the present day threads. Things really haven't changed very much Oo
So, 2019, then?
I am sure there is a name for a theory somewhere on progression but if something hasnt progressed in 2 years then it is possible it will never progress. Although to be fair there have been some minuscule progression with SC but not quick enough to think that 2019 would be realistic for anything capable of being called an MMO.
okay the graphic obviously undoubtly very high polished to the top end off all best graphic game ever.
but how about the gameplay and it's content?
do we have chemistry for that?
just to let you know, even a 2D pixel or semi 3D game but with a decent game play, story and content - a very best of AAA game could be easily beaten.
just for some advice for you if you wanna have a decent gameplay, story and content of game,
please invite or learn from japan people which is has expertise on gameplay, story and character design.
even of this game release on 2020 or 2022.
perhaps it's still worth to wait.
The Alpha 2.6.3 version has some example PvE gameplay and content in the "Crusader map" scenario. PvP content in the Arena Commander space combat mode, Star Marine FPS mode and racing mode in the the Arena Commander racing mode. Much more gameplay and content is planned for the upcoming Alpha 3.0 version.
Cinematic storytelling is known to have a high priority in all Chris Roberts games.

It's called optimism bias and it's countered with pessimism bias, which you're showing here with your "I haven't seen anything and therefore there must be nothing happening." In reality, there has been lots happening and it's actually readily available information. You just choose not to acknowledge it.

Nope.

You know, in Feburay 2015 I was being sarcastically pessimistic based on CIG own timeline: http://forums.mmorpg.com/discussion/comment/6560419/#Comment_6560419

"The biggest part of the development - the solo campaign Squadron 42 - is done without public testing at the moment. We backers DO test the technology, but not the story (yet). in 2015 most of the pieces of the puzzle (revealed and unrevealed) come together, that is why the schedule speeds up now.
