why are we fighting?

I want to start out by saying I love where EQ2 is going with the pvp servers, it renewed interest in the game for me and I thoroughly enjoy the experience. I just have one question..WHAT THE HECK ARE WE FIGHTING FOR??..We dont get land to take over, there are no runes or relics we get that help out our cities, and there is no place, that I have been to, that there are any major battles for a key port or strategic griffen tower. Maybe I'm rambling but it just seems that a group of people (including me) Just hang out at zone points to gank, run near the city to gank lower levels,or hang out in dungeons to (guess what ?) gank. Does anyone know if its in Sony's plan to expand on this or is this what the game is going to be. I am definetly not a flamer I have enjoyed I and II for many years but  I would love to see them expand this into something more then just 1 group running into a land to kill peeps then the other side getting a group together to go run them out.

You have just described PVP in most games.

Let me state for any future affadavit that I do not play EQ2 and have no axe to grind against it (although, my axe is plenty sharp for SoE :P). I agree 100% with Leasa - especially when PvP is tacked on to what is ostensibly a PvE game. I will never EVER play on a PvP server when PvP has not been coded into the game from the get go.

I will play PvE, PvP - any looting rules. Doesn't bother me. But I will not play a game that throws in a game mechanic that has no real meaning.

Just my $0.02 - even though I am very much in the minority here.

If I remember the pvp from EQ1, there was no real reason to pvp. Even though each pvp server had different pvp rules. Don't ask me what were the rules because I don't remember them. It was just a fight between good vs. evil. I'm sure its going to be more or less in EQ2. unless they develope a ranking system ala WoW.

SOE never really developed any story behind the Qvs.F setting. Other than Lucan is evil and runs Freeport and Antonia runs Qeynos and is good. Becomes even more poinless when the good and evil folks are grouping and raiding together and guilded together...

To answer your question, there is no reason.

Well you said it .You do not play EQ2 .And many many people have said the EQ2 pvp mechanics is pretty good compared to most other mmorpg out there.

If the problem is "reason" to fight ,well it same as most pvp games-no real reason but to gain loot/gear and own folks.

There is actually a storyline behind why freeporters hate Queynisans but i read it so long ago do not really remember but sure if you search u find it,

Dark Age of Camelot still has by far the best pvp system (imo). At least the pvp is meaningfull, and its not the same thing over and over ala WOW.

    searching for the next DAoC....
