Secret World Legends will be launching later this month on June 26th. Of the many systems updated and overhauled in preparation for the conversion to the "shared world RPG", combat is one of the most significant. To show off what it looks like now, Funcom has released a new trailer.

I don't really understand the whole "shared world RPG", isn't it still an mmorpg?

I think it is going to play more like hellgate London, destiny, guild wars 1, etc.

A friend bought me a copy of SW some time back. I wonder if it can be used to get this new RPG would would I have to buy it separately.

It's become GW2, it's not a bad thing in my opinion since I enjoy the tactical, yet mind numbing button mashing in gw2 for what it is. It's kinda like riding a bike, once you learn you never really forget.

Alverant, Secret World will exist as a separate game from SWL. SWL is free-to-play, hope that helps.

Shared world pretty much means its like a co-op where you can join together with people. I'm not sure if it'll be exactly like how The Division did it in how you only see people in hub areas and then you can only see people that you party with outside.

There will be a limit of 10 players per map with one hub area where you can meet many more. You can also invite people to your party and adventure with you (like GW1 etc.). I like what I'm seeing so can't wait to try it :)

I always loved The Secret World. In the beta currently, and I love the changes so far.

No collision detection? It looked like you could run through mobs and other players. Missed chance!

Also I kinda dislike the environment. No footsteps in the sand, mobs and players look like they hover a few mm above the floor, not making contact at all even when the floor is sloped.

To be positive, the combat system seems nice.

Agree. I don't know what the original combat system was like, but this one seems rather interesting.

@Keller The reason for the environment is probably because they focused on showing the combat syster and removed/misplaced a lot of stuff on purpose. At least that's what I think.

How stupid do they think people are? "revamped combat from the ground up" what? the combat, movement & animations pretty much look exactly the same as the original. They seem to have just jacked up the gfx a tiny bit, changed the ai + spell icon look and added resource bars.

That fugly wugly walk/run + dodge animations along with ALL the weapon attacks shown in the video look exactly the same as in TSW. The combat looks just as slow and adding some extra particle effects doesn't count as changing an entire system.

I like the looks of all of it EXCEPT I don't understand why they switched from tab-targeting to reticule - that one change makes me MUCH less likely to play this. Why would anyone want to have to worry about where they are facing during play? I can understand it for a shooter or similar but not for something calling itself RPG (MMO, shared, or whatever).

    Active: D&D Online (alpha,beta,&unlimited)

Retired: Anarchy Online, Archlord (beta), Auto Assault (beta), CoH/CoV, Dark Age of Camelot, Dungeon Runners, Elder Scrolls Online, Everquest, EVE, Guild Wars, Lord of the Rings Online (beta, live), Pathfinder Online (beta), Rift (beta, live), Secret World (beta, live), Star Wars Old Republic, Vanguard (beta), Warhammer (beta, live), World of Warcraft

I suppose it's just a taste thing. I ONLY want to ever be concerned about how/where I face.

I despise tab targeting for this reason. Having to cycle through targets, overshooting your target, cycling back. Why? When I can just "face" my opponent.

In any case, to answer your question, I'm guessing they changed it to reflect what is going on in games with all the more "action" combat games coming out.
