imagePathfinder: Kingmaker - A Chat with Chris Avellone & Alexander Mishulin a Previews at MMORPG.com

Tabletop iconoclasts had reason to rejoice this month when Owlcat Games announced they were making a single-player PC version of fantasy role-playing game, Pathfinder. Called Pathfinder: Kingmaker, the game promises the kind of rich role-playing experience tabletop gamers have come to expect. We met with Narrative Designer Chris Avellone (of Planescape: Torment and Fallout 2) and Creative Director, Alexander Mishulin, and they were happy to explain.

Yeah this game makes me very happy. Too bad Pathfinder Online showed such a disconnect with their audience, you'd be pretty foolish to sick more money in another one of their kickstarters.

Cool! Hopefully will include some cool GM toolsets and multiplayer. Got burned by the latest Dungeons and Dragons game (Sword Coast Legends) I really hope these guys can show them up.

The two have nothing to do with each other... other than they happen to use the same license

You cannot make a solid game trying to kickstart ideas. You need to have the FULL implementation of design well thought out BEFORE you begin production.
This is working half ass backwards, slowly get money and slowly design the game, seriously how can you make a game that meshes within itself entirely that way?

It is like, let's design the wheels before the car, let's design the suspension before the body design is thought out,you can't just add in those thoughts after the fact.It is like designing a large 8 cylinder engine then slowly adding in a Honda Civic frame depending on money,it doesn't work.

So they see an opportunity to build a low budget game using gamer's money,so no risk at all, then they see an IP they think will create interest before any game arrives. All of it looks likes a business design and NOT a game design.Creating a business model to make money will NEVER create a good game, you need to design the great game idea FIRST and best done without utilizing a known IP,that way the game survives on MERIT and not on it's IP.

The shotty work and shotty effort on pre design ruined it for the MMO trial, this is the exact same lack of effort as before.

I feel most everyone knows how big a budget a quality game needs and it is upwards of 100 million ++,so if you are looking for free handouts to build a Triple A game,FORGET IT.

Another kickstarter where the goal has no resemblance with how much they are going to need to make the game and somehow they will release it super quick as well. What it has is a well known IP and a writer that everyone in rpg circles have heard about that is selling it.

I will probably end up backing it because I'm a sucker for this type of game but I could just end up waiting for the full release.

So we're in the same boat.
    From the FAQ:
Pathfinder: Kingmaker is a single-player experience. We are not considering multiplayer at this moment.
There are currently no plans to implement DM-Tools or an editor.

Looks like a much better use of the IP than the MMO was.
I might get it once it is released.

My SWTOR referral link for those wanting to give the game a try. (Newbies get a welcome package while returning players get a few account upgrades to help with their preferred status.)

The game has a publisher (My.Com). They don't need the KS, it's just to gauze the popularity for it (and probably how big their game will end up being because My.Com might reduce the budget if it's not popular enough in the KS).

So its not even an indie game......no reason to back the game.

To be fair, this one is by a completely different studio, it's not an MMO and the Kickstarter is for additional content (races, classes, features) rather than the base game itself.

Multiplayer and DM tools are not currently planned.

It is too bad they don't add multiplayer for 6 players but otherwise this sounds more like an actual Pathfinder game. I have no clue what they were thinking about PFO.

Still, a game based on a P&P game really should have a multiplayer, it is playing together with others that makes P&P games so fun.

Okay, this may sound cheesy, but...
the Kickstarter campaign is not for the actual game. The game is funded. We want more content. More features to customize your kingdom, more companions, more races, more classes. We want the game to be as big and as fun as we can make it. We want it to have a soul.
