Deterrent to KOS PVPers

InebriatedSkunkInebriatedSkunk Member UncommonPosts: 66
Will there be any sort of drawback to killing players that turns PVP servers into mad house free for alls? I like the idea of competing with players for hunting grounds, but I would like to leave towns without immediately getting ganked or meet players without having Pokemon-rules fighting ("You made eye contact with me? I'LL RIP YOUR BLOODY LUNGS OUT!")

This is a survival game like Minecraft, there is likely going to be nothing keeping all the bad shit of PVP from happening in this game.

I thought there were going to be many rule sets of servers since the servers house a small number and nowhere near thousands playing at the same time. It was my understanding that you could find the server that is tailored to your needs.

I know that EVE Online has a bad, and undeserved, reputation for being a giant gankfest.  However, people who play it seriously know that the defender has many more opportunities to avoid PVP than the attacker has to initiate PVP.

This is how these types of games should be designed.  Yes there should be PVP just about everywhere, but it shouldn't be easy to get the drop on someone and gank them.  A clever player who knows and uses all of the right tricks should be able to avoid PVP, while the lazy or ignorant should suffer their fates.

Unless theyve' changed the design, they've stated that one can choose the type of server rules one wants. Either PvE or PvP.

So people can just play (or host) a PvE server and problem solved.

You are pveing...fighting a creature and its a close fight....you think you can win.Two gankers jump you as you fight making it now 3 in 1. THAT is how  many gankers fight.
Your character has reduced health, reduced endurance. So running is not even a viable option against two fresh players and an npc.

Tell me again how "A clever player who knows and uses all of the right tricks should be able to avoid PVP"  ?

    That's ridiculous.

Giving players the tools to avoid engagements through scanning other players, acting in areas controlled by friendlies, or acting in areas with good law enforcement works in EVE. In a fantasy survival game like Dark and Light the devs would have to completely butcher the rest of their game to give players similar tools.

In EVE you would be part of an alliance with a solid intel network.  As you can see who is in local (wormholes aside) the enemy is announced usually with advance notice.

So you wouldn't undock knowing enemy is 3 jumps out (yet so many do) and would stay safe until the all clear came. (or preferably reship into a PVP hull and join in the home defense.

If you never, ever turn your your attention from local or your intel networks or warning systems you can avoid getting killed.

But life happens, dog wants out, need a bio break, or my personal bane "death by recliner" and you get killed sometimes.

EVE provides more advantages to the attacker than he lets on, biggest being if/when they catch a PVEer there's usually (but not always) little to be done for it but die with dignity. ;)

He is saying a game should be designed to not make it easy for people to gank you, like perfect stealth which you have no way to counter.
