When word came that Harebrained Schemes was working on a new BattleTech game for PC and that the desire was to re-create that table top experience, I was more than a little excited. After spending some time with this title, to be released on Steam later this year, I wanted to spend some time unpacking my experience. So grab that coffee, kick back and enjoy this preview of BattleTech.

Saw this about a year ago, looking like a great game. I may give it a shot.

It's in beta. And only single player. There are a lot of tweaks that need to occur before ship but all in all it's looking good and plays good.

This is something I have wanted for a long time :) Since playing Crescent Hawk's Inception or whatever. Would love another RPG.

I've been enjoying the CBT quite a lot. There are some balancing issues to be addressed, of course, but the game is already pretty free of game-breaking bugs, and it's good fun to play against a lance of AI mechs at this early stage of testing.

Also, and I hate to be...that guy...but they are heat sinks, and not heat syncs.

Looks like a good use of computer technology to bring a board game to life, keep all the fun and cut out the drawbacks. Still, if I'm going to play a battle technology game, I'll stick to MechWarrior or Robocraft. Just personal preference.

I loved all 3 shadowrun games from this developer. So I will definitely keep an eye on this.

Not much else left to say guest writer. I have been pleased with the game overall, but obviously there is still work to be done. I won't go into specifics, but I will say I am extremely happy with backing this project during the Kickstarter. Honestly, this is one of the only games I have ever been pleased with backing.

I've heard conflicting information that this game is set to launch August, or this month. Not sure if there has been an official date unless I missed it.

Heat SINKS man, c'mon (not syncs). This totally threw off my reading. Now I'm gonna go back up and read the rest...a little less grognardy :)

Need to see video with narration explaining,i cannot get one single idea about his game just reading text.
I have no recollection of this aged paper or board game so i need to be convinced based on the NOW and not on nostalgia.

There's this little thing called "google". Give it a shot.

I'll be getting this for sure, would have even backed it, but I didn't hear about it in time.

BTW Mechwarrior is the RPG version of Battletech that introduced pilots to the game, Before that it was played with just the Mechs stats. Mechwarrior added the pilots and pilot skills to the base game.
So Battletech and Mechwarrior are basically the same thing. (Someone in the comments seemed confused.)

Shout out to MWO (Mechwarrior Online) If you tried it during Beta years ago and thought it sucked, give it another go. It is vastly improved since then, though it is still a lobby based shooter. The gameplay is much better than it was though, I'm having a blast and I'm not a shooter fan.

I do think it is good practice for all the PVP in the sandbox games upcoming, Crowfall I'm looking at you!
