E3 has come and gone and in the wake of the incredible hype machine that is back to back publisher conferences, the biggest game reveals are clear: EA Bioware’s Anthem and Activision Blizzard’s, Destiny 2. Everything we know so far says that these two games are taking aim at the exact same group of gamers. It’s poised to be a battle between two massive publishers and renowned development studios for the time and money of you the gamer. Let’s talk about how that might shake out.

I agree with this write-up: D2 almost seems more like Destiny 1.5, at least from the info we have now. What, indeed, happened to having a (more) open world and expanded social options in a game so dependent upon multiplayer activity? I'm not saying I'm not excited for it or that I won't play it - I almost certainly will, at some point - but did Activision pay attention at all to the massive volumes of feedback many of us gave while we played Destiny? More reasons to explore other than the same old tired dailies, more reasons to have friends in-game, strikes that were more than simply an old strike run backwards...I am not a game developer, but how difficult would it have been to implement things like that?
Anyhow, I am definitely ready for Anthem. It looks absolutely beautiful, and yes, it does actually appear to have some RPG elements that will flesh it out beyond what D2 will be. Looks like there will be some variety in those exosuits, which (hopefully) will encourage experimentation and allow us to tinker. I know Bioware has taken their share of flak in recent times, but when they put their heads together they do make some good games. I went into MEA with low expectations and wound up loving it, so I'd go into Anthem looking for a good time.
Anthem is a project that could be a big success, but they're also trying so much that they've got plenty of chance to fail and create a flop.
I plan to play Destiny 2 immediately on release, but for Anthem wait for reviews before making any decision to to purchase.

The comment "Destiny 2, in most respects, is a whole lot closer to Destiny 1.5 instead of a true sequel" never rang truer. When a game normally gets a squeal it has drastic changes and improvements, unless the previous model was smash hit, but tbh Destiny did well, but not as well as it was hyped up to be.
Think the fans who are with it now will play it, but those who came and left probably won't be back unless the game offers more than it did with Destiny 1.
Anthem looks interesting and might be my answer since Destiny didn't do it for me, game-play trailer looked amazing, but we all know they don't mean much these days. Also I thnk if this game does everything Destiny didn't do and Destiny 2 is nothing new, I could defo see people moving over
If you miss Firefall, Em-8er will fill its void.. if/when it comes out. Hopefully since their Indiegogo is doing really well, it will be a stronger possibility.
I have zero interest in another shooter as they are a dime a dozen.
I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.
First off, comparing Destiny to WoW makes no sense at all. One is a FPS game and the other is a subscription based MMORPG, chalk and cheese. Better to compare Destiny to BF, CoD, Halo or The Division, as they both have a persistant world. Apart from that it has nothing in common with MMO's. It's a co-op, persistant shooter.
Secondly Anthem will be advertised via the Origin launcher, which also has massive usage. I'd say they both have a good chance of selling multiple millions of copies.

That's what I plan to do as I will get at least a year out of Destiny 2 before Anthem comes out and by that time I will more than likely be looking for a break from Destiny 2 and thats when I can jump into Anthem.

Bungie made Destiny. Blizzard made WoW. Both companies are under Activision so they share ideas between their games.
It is extremely evident that Bungie took the WoW "threadmill" mechanics to create Destiny. Everything you do in Destiny is a WoW mechanic translated into a First Person Shooter.
Well yes, to a degree you're right but at it's core Destiny is a shooter and WoW is a sword and board RPG, which traditionally appeals to a different market. They may share RPG elements but the core gameplay is quite different. Over here we have the FPS core game and over there is a traditional, tab targetted, RNG based RPG.
Obviously there will be some overlap with players that enjoy both but the FPS market has always been bigger than the traditional MMORPG market. Note I say traditional MMORPG, not the new "MMO" market that includes LoL, DOTA and all those other games that aren't "proper" MMO's. Because WoW is a traditional MMORPG like EQ, DAOC etc.
When EQ was at it's height with 500k subs Half life had sold 8 million copies. HL2 sold over 12 million. CoD Modern warfare sold 18 million while the sequels sold 27 million each. Today we have Overwatch with over 30 million sales. It was a pretty safe bet that Destiny would sell extremely well because it's FPS play is solid and it has the added appeal of the RPG elements to generate interest from a wider audience. Plus the fact that it was riding the coat tails of Halo.
The point I was making was that saying Destiny sold 20 million and surpassed WoW isn't something that should be particularly surprising because there are quite a few FPS games that have surpassed WoW. Or have they?
When DMKano said that 20 million surpassed WoW was he referring to the peak subs of 12 million, or did he mean the total sales of WoW? I'm not sure if anyone even knows how many sales WoW has in total for sure, but according to wikipedia the total number of accounts created over WoW's lifetime is in excess of 100 million. So either way you look at it, that statement is either irrelevant or just wrong.
Bioware didn't show real game play and what was shown at E3 was basically a scripted tech demo using the in game engine Bioware will be using. The graphic fidelity will be toned down for all consoles, and probably PC as well. No game mechanics were divulged past flashy scripted events and all we know about Anthem's game play is that Anthem will be kinda sorta like Destiny.
I'm not saying Anthem won't be a good game, I'm saying none of us can possibly know since Anthem is nothing more than a tech demo at this current moment in time. Comparing Anthem to a game that we have a lot of info on, and will be released within a few months time, is completely absurd.
