Yea yea GW2 this GW2 that same old same old from comments on MMORPG , HOT expansion was great addition to already great game so from this perspectve i can say to all don't worry to much about this game : game is fine , ppl are still playing this game as far as i know ...

GW2 as GW1 have main income from Expansion packs and minor from Gem Store.ANet had same model for first game so they decided its financial model that suits them well for 2nd game , numbers we see are normal if we know when last expansion was released. And this is by far best model from players perspective in my opinion.

When im deciding about value of an MMO game invested money is big part of evaluation. If i can buy all the fun with real money whats the point ... or when we need to buy base game and after that we need to pay monthly fee 2 , for what ? If theres monthly fee base game or expansion need to be free of charge simple as that.

I don't say GW2 is best game in the world but u can hardly find an game that offer u more for just buying base game or expansion.

One question when we take all good and bed parts of GW2 , can u tell me name of the game that offer u more fun for invested money.

Every time a competitor to CoH opened up (Champions Online, then DCUO), CoH made less money.  But they continued to make money.  I think they saw the writing on the wall, that CoH would probably go in the red when Marvel Heroes released, so I think the game was on a timer any way.

Here is the thing that gets me.  The game WAS still profitable, and the dev team was almost ready to release Issue 24, which would have brought a LOT of players back.  I think they would have done just fine, churning out money right up to when MH released.  They could have waited until June 2013 to pull the plug, since July would have likely been their first month in the red, but chose to do it in Nov 2012.

And when they pulled the plug they turned down several offers to buy the game that were very good offers in many of the eyes of the industry.  Instead they countered with an impossible amount to sell.  I estimated that any purchaser had about 3 years to get their money back.  Even in maintenance mode (no updates or bug fixes) The max offer that had a good chance to recoup the investment with a bit of interest was probably about 4 million USD, and NCsoft was asking many times that amount.  CoH fans were devoted, but not THAT devoted!  And those devoted fans were not treated favorably by NCsoft, not by a long shot.

So yeah, I'm not very interested in throwing money at NCsoft, although I will TAKE their money by playing F2P's until they bore me.  And I am sure that there are lots of peeps just like me out there.

At least that is the way I thought until I saw that they included Statesman in MxM.  Now I won't touch any of their projects with a 10 foot pole, or a 10 dollar bill.

The world is going to the dogs, which is just how I planned it!

One of the interesting things i noticed when comparing the 1Q16 figures with 1Q17 ones is that for NA/EU profits, they had more than halved from 60,774 for 1Q16 to just 28,329 for 1Q17, its clearly a sign that they are losing significant market share in NA/EU.

I'm of the mindset that the only things that Koreans can comprehend revolve around money, it's how I imagine Koreans make such "Korean" games.

That being said, Lineage Eternal looked terribly bland by today's standards.

Personally false promises are the main reason I ditched GW2. As for their sales, they're still making somewhat close to 12.5m USD, not sure how much that actually is for them in terms of operating costs. That being said, if they don't shape up their listening skills they won't have their own category for much longer.

Hearts of thorn was released 4Q15, blade&soul was released during 1Q16 so it was more of temporary boosted numbers for 1Q16.

I see lots of criticsm on Anet's GW2 here, pretty much on the spot tbh. Mounts are coming in the next xpac, after all those years of bitching how their WP system is superior. The hypocrisy is surreal. Their manifesto was practically marketing scam.

Blade and Soul is successful because of it's e-sport component, if anyone was wondering.

It was released late 4Q15 and most of its release sales were in 1Q16.
It wasn't late 4Q15 but in October which was the first month of Q4. The game's sales in 1Q16 were lower than in the previous quarter but it was due to preorder sales that financially count as launch day revenues.

So companies set financial targets that include profit as well as growth. If they don't make their targets then their CEO/management team will have concerns as that affects stock price.

Thanks. But if a game is contributing, even a little bit, to the financial targets it doesn't make sense to shut it down. The only way it makes sense is that doing so lowers the finanicial/growth target by a greater amount. We can't sure that's what happened because companies keep such information private.

That's not really taking into account how it works.

if NC Soft is using x dollars for a studio, game, etc, and that game is performing less than expected and they can use that same x dollars and make something that makes "you the investor" more money then they will do that.

If you look at your retirement investment(s) and see that something is under-performing you are going to want to change that. Why wouldn't you?

Same if you were to have invested in NC Soft and you see that they are spending x dollars on things that don't really make as much money as they need to, why would you keep that investment?

Heck, recently I went into my 401k and realized that it was just "movin' along" but wasn't really making what I wanted it to make so I reallocated things and lo and behold the next time I check on it I had a nice surprise.

"You" as the NC Soft investor (or really, whoever it is) would be looking at that investment and thinking "do I really want to be here"?

I want Lineage 3 not a top down game diablo type game.

Its time for a sequel to Aion and Lineage 2.

    That Lineage drop. Ouch
    L2 is a L1 prequel, so L2 sequel tecnically exists, it's called Lineage 1.

NCSOFT,like the rest of the industry has been developing half assed, half finished games and trying to sell a few cool looking characters or effects.I want a full,in depth feature rich game, not a few cool effects.
Even their most profitable franchise, the Lineage one was never all that great to me,seems Asians really love their pvp no matter what genre it is and likely why so much has been pushed on us of recent.

Imo Ncsoft are identical to Blizzard, neither one makes quality games, just aiming for gimmicks.Imo Square Enix has been the leader for MANY years and still is,although they are beginning to slip as well but at least still aim for high end graphics and effort. When i see some EFFORT in at least SOME aspects of game design,it is at least enough to keep me interested, but when i see a poor effort to deliver the best possible content,i o not give those devs any credit.

The difference although i compare the two as identical ,is that Blizzard has a better gimmick which is Esports and $$ driven for streamers, while Ncsoft just delivers the GAMES.SOE was again the EXACT same type developer, they just sold the games but did not have the added Esports or Streaming ability tied into it,so if there is no money to  be made seems games struggle.Look no further than D3,soon as the trading/AH was removed the game literally died off like all the rest.So it PROVES my claims are substantiated, gaming right now is thriving off of Esports and Streaming$$$ and NOT the quality of games.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

It's not just CoH. NCSoft has treated underperforming IPs and their fans with casual disregard since Dungeon Runners and US Lineage. Don't forget Auto Assault (poor car wars fans) and Tabula Rasa.

NCSoft the publisher I hate whose games I love. It's a horrible codependent relationship.
Yea i miss those games also , and i have always felt that it would have served NCSoft much better to have kept them all and offered up a Similar to SOE Station Pass .. I know i would have it right now

Oh darn, the South Korean equivalent of EA is having trouble. What a pity. Really. Boo hoo, and all that. I guess treating western players and developers like shit wasn't such a good move after all.

    Actual report essentials:
Sales down 1% YoY and 16% QoQ [from previous historical record sales]. Usual fluctations within games due to expansion and new releases.
After cashout of incentives [for previous record quarter to the pleasure of stakeholders] and new hires  among other reasons due to one dev team reshuffeling and expanding mobile business [as we did for the past 4 years increasing labour costs by almost 30% ], net income [consequently] dropped significantly. Expected to recover by next quarter.

    Korea Times clickbaity article:
Earnings down 74% YoY!!!! Expected but anyhow shocking news! Far below unnamed prospects by anywho! Poor game sales!

MMORPG stay classy its not BLizzard so we can afford it clickbait tier article:
Sales down nearlyy 74% YoY according to Korean Times!!!! We don't even know what we are talking about but doom! Company reshuffeling developers! Game sales down! Profits crashing because of poor game sales! Drama! We obviously didn't really read the actual report and just skimmed over the sheets in the link we added just to appear more authentic, nor listend to the podcast and just parroted the Korean Times article with our own flavour of spin and hybebole and interpretations.

    Ever butthurt "CoH fans":
WELL! WELL! WELL! :---)))) AFTER 5 LONG OVERALL HIGHLY PROFITABLE AND NEVER MORE SUCCESSFULL YEARS NCSOFT IS FINALLY COLLAPSING JUST AS PREDICTED! THE PROMISED NEGATIVE BACKLASH FOR CLOSING THIS ONE UNPROFITABLE GAME THAT NEVER HAD ANY SIGNIFICANT EFFECT ON THEIR SALES IN FIRST PLACE, LEAVE ALONE PROFITS BEFORE IT WAS SHUT DOWN REVEALS ITSELF! THATS WHAT YOU GET FOR CLOSING SERVICES PRACTICALLY NO ONE INCLUDING ME ACTUALLY DID AND WANTED TO PAY FOR ANYMORE! ALSO LET ME REPEAT THAT THE GAME WAS MAKING STABLE PROFITS DESPITE THE FACT THE ONLY TIME THE ANYTHING ABOUT GAMES PROFITS HAD EVER BEEN REPORTED IT WAS NOT PROFITABLE. (Now just forget the last 20-100 times I preached exactly the same, be it after record profits or record sales reports over the last 5 years)

    Ever butthurt NC hater:
    WELL! WELL! WELL! :---)))) ....

Actual real market response and evaluation of NCSoft:
Even a week in NCSoft marketvalue practically unaffected and on line with recent new historical peak.
Edit: NCSoft actually just reached a new historical record high while typing this.

Ah... the usual quarterly "who can spin the worst out of NCSoft reports and last the longest while pretending not to hear or understand the people calling you out for making up bullshit round robin" - game. Its that time again...

Far be it from me to let old grudges restrain me from helping out the gaming industry as a whole.. So, NCSoft, as an olive branch from me to you.. I will give you $10.. yes, 10 U.S. dollars, for all of the City of Heroes and Tabula Rasa game code and franchises.. Consider this a standing offer.. :)

This makes me wonder if they're open to hostile takeover in a weakened position like this. I'm not an investor type though.
If their stocks "tumble" too low then yes.

A company that would want to acquire them would try to buy out their stocks by approaching stock holders and say "hey, I'll offer you x amount for your stock. certainly better than what it's currently worth".

It would probably have to be very low for this, not look like it would turn around under current management and of course other companies would have to see value in their products.

If NCsoft would release new MMO's like "Lineage 3" Without (GAME GUARD) or (XING CODE ROOT KITS) and do the development Similiar to (BLACK DESERT) but better in many different ways as I would such as better housing, better crafting, not 100% Cash shop dependent, (Then the game would be popular.)

Blade & Soul isn't the best of games but if developers actually listened, removed the Root Kits, and kept development up properly on this game it would have been great and I would still have been playing it on and off + Money in cash shop.

This is the perfect time for lineage 2 follow up, with actually plot line not the bullshit that came with and after interlude (kamael and hellbound were okay I suppose).

Make lineage 3, a new groundbreaking mmo that can combine single player and multiplayer.
Enough with the alt and tab and the raiding grind. Make engaging and challenging content, create it with the ability for players to make their own dungeons and export the best to the actual game with some core developer touch.

If this is done and you capture the feeling that lineage 2 instilled in everyone as an actual world, you have gold on your hands.
