People who like Tera and every new Korean MMO of the week will love this. People who like MMOs will hate it.
I fall into the latter category. This redesign is made for people who want to play an MMO but dont want the fuss of having to think when it comes to builds.
It is in my opinion a blatant attempt to turn TSW into a Korean MMO of the week. Sans the beautiful graphics and character models.
As a side note. The fact that funcom forced a game breaking update into the TSW client without alerting the players that they were installing a game they may not want really proves who they are as a company and as devs. Decietful, manipulative liars. Just because they want to appeal to the mass market audience doesnt mean we are all in that audience.
I do not like the new game unfortunately. I love the world. I love the story. I want to know more, see more, but the reticule combat is dizzying to use. The over simplified combat is not as compelling as the old combat. Honestly the charges and clips do not make sense within the context of the world either. Gaia granted us power and vision into a world seen in the periphery and Funcom has barred us from it with their desperate attempts to be something they are not to capitilize on a market that is extremely fickle instead of refining what they are and cultivating the community that has stuck with this game for 5 years.
I would almost congradulate them on transferring clothing and GM rewards if I didnt see it for the desperate attempt to salvage and move the old community with its whales to thr new game. I however doubt if the community was large enough they would of been so kind.
The change in combat was a bit jarring at first, but holy hell am I having a great time.
Chaos/Fist is even more fun than it used to be, can't wait to bring the hurt back to Fusang.
I hope faction balance is better than before. I remember it was usually dominated by Templars when I played, sometimes by Illuminati, almost never Dragon.
So, it's the same game... but worse, but better just because it was repackaged as a new game. Got it. =\

I mean for real. Its the same dated game engine from 2001 with the same game assets. The only thing thats changed is some superficial lighting, model sizing and alpha transparinces and a bit of code. Its the same buggy game it always was and while lag might be mitigated by smaller zones and player populations its still a 32bit program in a 64bit world. Meaning it cant even take advantage of the hardware from the point in time it was compiled let alone now.
The above isnt even a review of the game. Its a free commercial cause apparently funcom isnt going to do any real advertising and the above contains nothing I would consider critical. The only people talking about this game A. All ready played it and didnt like it. B. Played it and did like it and kept playing it. C. Work at MMORPG, or that other MMO site. The Know mentioned it briefly in a video back before beta was live. And maybe a few others c&ped the press release but thats it. This game isnt revitalized, its repackaged. Probably cause itll be easier to pawn off on another company like sony finally did with EQ when it stops turning a suitable profit..
PS when i said The Know mentioned it I mean that they gave more airtime to Fidget Spinner porn than they did to the SWL rerelease notice.
I enjoyed it 4 years ago but haven't played it since then. Looking forward to starting again with fresh eyes... if my DL ever finishes lol.

Looking forward to trying the new version. I liked the old one so I'm willing to give this one a try if i can ever figure out how/where to down load it.

Exact same game just some trivial changes that really dont change much in the grand scheme, its amazing how easily people are suckered in now adays. Most of the people who are positive just never played much TSW before or havent recently so its just a new car shine that will be long gone in about a week. Nice commercial err i mean "review in progress". They didnt need to make a "new game" for this its basically a QOL update and split an already small community up. Cash grab is a cash grab.

A lot of people (myself included) enjoyed TSW but disliked the combat. The combat changes are significant enough that to most it feels like a new game. Not really a cash grab, but you go ahead and keep telling yourself that
Though I am not so sure about being able to buy AP and SP on the CS, need to test it myself before I can come up with a conclusion.
In all fairness, even if that turns out to be in there... what does it really matter? It's not a PvP game. This will pretty much affect us as much as someone cheating on a single player game to make it easy on themselves.
I wouldn't buy it, since I actually like playing the game, but if someone wants to throw money at that I pretty much couldn't care less.
But there is PvP in the game...... Don't get me wrong, I don't mind being able to do that and I actually am very much enjoying SWL with these new changes. I did not really enjoy the combat system of TSW so this is a breath of fresh air for me. I just had to set the record straight that there is PvP in the game and if you go to the menu and options you can even see the PvP options that are there for health bars etc.

Selling AP and SP is pretty much like selling instant level-ups in other games. Grinding abilities takes much less time in SWL than doing a 1-90 in WoW.

Good writing, innovative idea, not my kind of setting(AT ALL). Don't care.
Well, it's no longer an MMO. They are branding it an ARPG, or more accurately a shared-world ARPG (10 players per instance - not massive at all). Competition? D3, Grim Dawn, T2, Van Helsing, etc.
Those games are light-years ahead of anything SWL could ever dream of becoming. I'll play those instead.

And now it's even less of a non-blockbuster.
I'm actually looking forward to the "this game sucks" posts that should start in about...oh....7 days.
Dude... that's like... EVERY MMO. Especially on this site. Even the most popular MMOs still have people bitching about how "bad" they are. Or how "dead" they are, because apparently if you don't like a game personally, the other millions of people playing them suddenly don't count.

Well, considering SWL is no longer an MMO, it can bring bitching and whining to a whole new genre, the ARPG.
Same game, fewer people running around. Better gear upgrading. Geared to use cash shop more. I don't see why they didn't modify the original game unless they just wanted everyone to start over and spend more money.

Some people have low-functioning brain stems, suppressing their ability to sense danger and thus are easier to fool.
Some people don't sweat the small shit.
My grandmother used to say that. She had unlimited amounts of free time and Alzheimer's. She also wound up getting cleaned out by a phone scammer. She would have been a wet dream to the marketing team at Funcom.
Same game, fewer people running around. Better gear upgrading. Geared to use cash shop more. I don't see why they didn't modify the original game unless they just wanted everyone to start over and spend more money.
Maybe they wanted a reboot like FF14 1.0 to 2.0. They want to ditch their old subscription and point system. I think unravelling that in a revenue reboot would have been a nightmare.
I don't think they should have tied so much to the last game. No pets, sprints, or weapon unlocks should have transferred. Most of the cosmetics could have but they should have left special rewards (like class cosmetics) locked.
Other than weapon unlocks I'm not seeing much to spend Aurum on. I've already got those unlocked so I subbed for the premium perks.
What weapon combo are you using? I'm doing elem/chaos for now.
Well if you are short on things to spend Aurum on you can always straight up buy AP and SP, or high end upgrade items to use on your gear. If your looking to be the best straight up spend the cash to get there quick.
"The game before these changes was a blockbuster success" said no one ever.
Irrelevant. No one expected or needed it to be a blockbuster success. It had a dedicated and active playerbase before whom only really wanted to see more consistent quality content additions. The person you quoted was exactly right... no one was saying, or requesting, any of the things they listed. This wasn't FC responding to pressure from the playerbase.
This is Funcom clearly doing what so many others have done... compromising the game and gambling their existing established players in an attempt to appeal to a different, bigger group of people.
I have a feeling the results will, likely, be the same as in most of other cases... it will fail to bring in the new players they hoped for, while turning off/away those who were already loyally playing and enjoying it for what it was, flaws and all.
