Despite the game’s strong PvE leanings, Yoshi-P continues to make the case for PvP in FFXIV with the addition of new PvP content introduced to the game over time. But despite the team’s efforts, it’s never really taken off until the release of the game’s latest expansion, Stormblood.

I wont say pvp is amazing but it definitely was an extremely smart play for them handling it the way they did with this expansion and I hope that even WoW does something similar in the future to make the game feel like a whole experience first a back loaded one where the "fun" is only at cap.

Amazing as per usual is not a superalitve, why say you are basically ' surprised' by the PVP...the words amazing and incredible are incorrectly used abundantly!
    Perennially extricating the extraneous

Not for me with this too slow global cooldown system.

I'm wondering how the game's PVP can be "amazing" if the combat is probably the worst in the genre?

the stormblood pvp has been a blast

the new system is great, leveling up your pve level through pvp is a fantastic option. I've done at least a hundred matches and haven't seen any afk'ers yet. Seen lots of close matches and some landslides but the landslides literally end in under 5 minutes so nobody cares that much.

feast is SOLO Q ONLY. there are no premades except people just clicking the q button at the same time.

You have a few off-gcd abilities with every class that speeds up the gameplay, just like WoW. The gcd is slightly longer but there is WAY LESS CC. WoW effectively spams cc (crowd control) on cooldown where ff14 (stormblood) you would only use cc when it makes a difference.

fast q times for all classes in feast, 30 -90 seconds in my experience with multiple classes.

you also level up in pvp rank and get rewards that you can spend on vendor gear and glamours (transmogs). They also give you stuff you can translate to gil (gold).

Really has been refreshing. Feels like WoW BC or vanilla pvp but more balanced.

Obviously, this assumes you already like the game. This wasn't written for people who already take a pass on the game due to their (understandable) issues with the slower combat. It's more of a "If you like FFXIV, you should check out the PvP. It's pretty awesome now!"

I've been enjoying the new PvP changes, and the PvP in general. I've always tossed it aside because when it came out it was a thing that felt like they added it just to say the game has it and to appease people whining about not having it. Now it actually feels like it has soul to it, multiple game modes, the 3 faction frontline mode is pretty fun. I also like getting 300k exp per match of frontline, it's a nice break when I need to level for the MSQ's, and I don't feel like grinding side quests.

I am a long time veteran MMO gamer, but I have never played FF XIV. It never seemed to entice me. However, with these changes to PvP, I am tempted to give the game a shot. Is it worth getting into as a new player and no friends?

    Yes!

in 15 years of FFXI,almost NOBODY if any played for pvp.I got the same idea from my short stint in FFXIV,people don't play FF games for pvp.

I see a poster above sort of confirms it,he has not played FFXIV but might just for  this pvp, which means he doesn't care about the actual game which is not a good thing for the game.

I can say i like a LOT about FFXIV,but imo wasting time on improving pvp is the worst idea Square can think of,but i understand WHY,it is EASY to implement a half assed pvp system.I am quite certain,i am not alone in stating i would spend way more time and resources on the class/combat PVE structure before worrying about pvp.I am a long tiem fan of FF games but the class/combat and Ilevel idea drove away fro mthis game forever, unless they fix it."SLOWish" combat has absolutely NOTHING to do with combat being bad but actually does allow for combat to be better.

I should mention the one real positive that almost no other game has going for it....gear doesn't matter. So one MIGHT use the term ALL SKILL based but in reality, unless maps are designed to utilize tactics/skill,it is still standing out in the open spamming at each other.

Even still,if you find it FUN or whatever reason, the bottom line is that pvp can NEVER be fully balanced in a rpg, there will always be 1 or 2 classes that are stronger and that is why i don't like rpg pvp.I want  vanilla pure skill/smarts for pvp, everything exactly identical between 2-4 players,i have never liked spammy encounters with too many players.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

This is definitely an opinion. I for one really enjoy the combat. If your basis is that the combat is bad due to a slightly longer GCD then idk what to tell you?

The PVP is still unbalanced, but the rework is nice. Less skills in PVP is a good thing, and this gets closer to the MOBA style of less skills and faster gameplay.

IMO Final Fantasy and PvP don't go together. I will do 1 match and 1 match only because that's what I need for a PS4 achievement :D

PvP might be what gets me to try this game.  Sounds interesting and potentially fun.

I have been reading up a bit on pvp in this game; in nearly every post I read someone says "don't play this game for the pvp". I'm not sure if that means the pvp is really bad, or if there is just a lot of players who don't like pvp.

I've played other games like Rift, WoW, and GW2 where I have spent virtually all my time in the battlegrounds: is the pvp much worse in FF14 than the bgs in those games, or is it about the same kind of experience?

After playing games like Wildstar and Blade and Soul I just can't do PvP with tab-target, let alone ffxiv's snail's pace combat.

There's just not enough depth there for me, not enough of it is skill based in terms of aiming, dodging, etc.
