Good news. For a while I was afraid they'd just milk existing games and then shut the studio.

Whatever game they're making it's always better to have more games on the market.

Working on a new title, i don't think so, if anything i think they will probably focus on what they have that currently is making money. More Planetside 2 features/content/maps, and maybe the same kind of thing with H1Z1. Not to mention there are also games such as EQ1 and EQ2 that are hanging on by a thread. :/

That's not true at all. Also, it's clipped from the DBG posting, soooooooo, your entirely wrong. Now, if they said Code Monkey then maybe you'd have a case, but you're acting as though Programmer is some sort of derogatory term.

For what it's worth, if we're using literals, I've met plenty of Programmers and very few Software Developers.

Nah, I doubt it will be a new MMORPG, maybe another team-based shooter or some kind of MOBA..

I really wish that they would find a way to develop Everquest 3 or whatever name for a
    successor of EQ1 and EQ2.
But another MOBA or Team shooter or (zombie) survival game... I would find that really disappointing... there is so much potential in the great IP of Everquest !
  • RukushinRukushin Member UncommonPosts: 311
I with everyone else in calling the whole MOBA prediction. Everyone and their grandmother these days are making cheaper and cheaper MOBAs. I have no hopes for this studio. Even if an Everquest 3 does get announced, my jaw would drop for one, but it would be nothing like what people are hoping for.

It will be dumbed down and as cookie cutter as it can possibly be. I just have no faith in this company whatsoever.

lol "Rev up the Everquest 3 speculation".  That's just an irresponsible speculation, a way to draw attention to the discussion.  If you know anything about Daybreak, you should know it won't be EQ.

Don't expect it to be EQ.

They are probably just trying to replace all the experienced people that they fired or that jumped shit to go work at Intrepid or some other studio. Now they will hire in people with no experience and pay them half as much. I almost hope they don't try and make a new EQ because it would just be a half ass cash grab shit show. I'd rather they didn't ruin the brand, because I really don't see them investing the time and money it would take to make a quality EQ game.

While I don't necessarily think it's EQ 3 I'm curious what you know that we don't?

"If you know anything about daybreak".

Do tell? Because they did buy a company with an already established brand. My thought is they will want to capitalize on that brand at some point. Maybe not an mmo but "something" everquestesque ...

I bet they make an Everquest MOBA where you can play as the NPCs from the games.

40 people is a sizeable group and a huge investment in its own right. They clearly are investing money to make some sort of game.

About 2.5 years since Sony pulled out and CN took over - with associated job losses both at the time and a few more subsequently.

Maybe this recruitment is geared towards something new - mobile perhaps - but given the spread of posts filling internal vacancies is just as likely. Companies "always" have staff "leaving" - they retire, die, wife/husband gets a job elsewhere and so on; 4% a year is considered "low" for a normal secure company going about its business; when things are "uncertain" a company can easily be looking at 10% a year.

Still this has to be seen as good news. And if there is something new that would be a bonus.

Now if they announce a job fair for a few hundred vacancies then - maybe - one can speculate about EQ3.....

Lol, yeah. A Programmer also appreciates a good rotary debugger.

Also, and this is just purely tongue-in-cheek, but do people really expect to be called Software Developers or Software Engineers when they are most interested in Agile? I mean the Agile Manifesto is effectively, "Don't worry about documentation, just make it work." I mean just because some guys found a flashy way to say that doesn't mean squat! That's what Programmers have been doing for years, lol. There's nothing elegant or refined about it.

Sweet man!!! Mine is/was too! Actually, she was promoted to a Sr. VP of Domestic Analysis just recently. That being said, she's decided to look for something new since she's managed to achieve full automation of the domestic space.

That seems needlessly massive. 40 positions is ginormous for mobile but quite normal for an MMO.

So who's going to wanna work at Daybreak? Oh ya fresh meat or someone desperate. If you have followed DB since the takeover they have released basically everyone that made any decent money there. Outside of H1Z1 have basically put there games in maintenance mode to milk them... I have no idea what there friendship with Standing Stone games is yet and they don't seem like the Investment Group that likes to spend lots to make some return. From my viewpoint unless they start making something new they are on the short road to non existence.

I would say a lot of people.

Some young person starting out is going to want to add to his/her resume. Why not the company that owns one of the original mmo's?

I mean, if you are starting out in the game business, which is better? Getting a few guys together to try to make a small game that you may or may not finish or getting paid with better benefits from a more sizeable company?

People hiring is always good news for the people who get the jobs. Don't see a downside to this and an added bonus if it is towards the development of a new game.

Let's not forget that DBG is 2 years old now. For a company that's been "slowly burning into non-existence" since their inception, I'd say they're doing alright.

Secondly, Columbus Nova isn't like a noob or something. They have an EXTENSIVE technology portfolio. My guess is that they have a better idea on how to run a tech company than what Sony did, especially considering the state of Sony right now. Why would someone want to work at DBG? Ummmmmmm, sooooooooooo many opportunities for movement and progression. You're making it seem like joining DBG would be like hopping onto a sinking ship, but it's actually quite sturdy and it's not just a ship, but an armada.
