Firefall News - Firefall has had a rough lifetime that is sadly coming to a close on Friday, July 7th. Redfall staffers updated the official site with a brief notice to the remaining playerbase. For fans who will mourn the end of the Firefall online era there is still good news as a mobile version is in the works.

Always thought this game was better than they gave it credit for.

Yeah, it's unfortunate. I preferred PS2 and Defiance more, but Firefall was fun too.
Not sure how will it fare on mobiles, but since I'm not really a mobile player I guess I won't know...

Game was fun back when it was first out. Then they decided to waste time redoing the crafting system several times when it was good enough, removed PvP completely which again was good enough to at least keep (had some fun times in that soccer esk mode), and amp up the difficulty so you could not solo higher content simply due to the fact the enemies spawned faster then you could kill them with end game gun. I understand its a party game, but it was not easy to find people to do stuff with. I am fine with trudging through higher things solo, but being unable to do it because of the spawn rate was a bad move. To me they kinda of shot themselves in the foot.

I had a lot of fun with Firefall, although I haven't played in forever since it's been a dumpster fire for some time now. I bought a cheapo ($20) founder's pack back in 2011/2012 so I could get in on the Beta, and I have to say I got my money's worth and then some. Unfortunately, the never-ending changes to core systems and the apparent lack of direction just wound up ruining everything. I loved the jump-jets and the world was gorgeous, but it never felt any bigger than my kitchen and the enemy respawn rate just became untenable after a while. It was a great idea, but the execution was so poor that an awful lot of us walked away and never came back. Sad to see, but not really at all surprising.

I'm pretty sure we've all seen this coming. The game hasn't seen any real update or progress since April of last year. There long awaited big 1.6 update pretty much ruined the game with its plethora of game breaking bugs, missing equipment that never got returned to vet players, questionable decision to remove alt fire abilities off of weapons that made battleframes more unique, and the removal of crafting that never came back.

I implore, that if the remaining Red 5 team wishes to have any credibility with their next new mobile game they need to fully realize that their reputation as a gaming company is pretty much down the drain. Their mobile game needs to be kick ass and widely advertised.

There updates need to be in bite sized chunks that come often rather then huge beefy updates that come slowly, so it gives off the appearance that their game is alive and well. I'm looking forward to seeing what their new game looks like and hope that the great talented fellows who worked on firefall originally, will come back to further develop Em8er.

It's a shame, my brother and I had quite a bit of fun way back when just thumping around the world and murdering masses of bugs.
Me too!  Remember when people were thumping all over the map and there was always lots of bug killing action?  Remember when the medic used a healing beam like in TF2 and not some slow moving healing-ball?

I loved the original game from way back when it was invite only.  The changes to the medic were the start of its downfall to me.  In a game where the players move fast and erratic using jetpacks, trying to heal someone with that slow healing-ball ability was about useless.

I still have my Firefall beanie!

Yeah I am not shocked, the original concept of the game was great, but the engine being used to develop it had so many issues, loading problems with mesh for example, and as many times as I tried to play the game the over-all game felt like it wasn't there, and this is why I really never bothered to buy a founders pack or play the game its sad because this game could have been so much more if given the right funding to the developers and game being developed properly.

This is what sold me on FireFall in the first place:
Extra Credits did a marvelous job presenting the dream behind it.
We got parts of it, and then it was slowly changed into a bland MMO untill 1.6 gave it the mercy shot, well before the servers went down.

I still want THAT game. Really bad! I guess i'll have to settle for Em-8er, if it even gets made.

Good bye FireFall, we had some great times. And, yeah, I would play the hell out of a vanilla server or a 1.3 in spite of all their flaws. That would be better than the nothing we get now.

I really enjoyed firefall when it 1st came out but with each major update it got it seemed to get less fun such a shame it could have been a really fun game.

Enjoyed my time in Firefall when it first came out. Sad to see it go, but I feel like the devs couldn't quite nail their vision in what they wanted Firefall to be. I was pretty happy with it's first incarnation, regardless of the bugs. Just needed some polish. Taking out the PvP was a mistake too, imo.

Just want to throw this out here but Mark Kern is making a new version of fire fall called em-8er and they hit there funding by 500%. So the old version where you can just have fun messing around the tump is coming back. https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/em-8er-mech-vs-kaiju-wargame-m3-milestone#/

This was a really great game once, and there was a lot of potential for even more. Sadly though it was just mishandled by a long list of people who shouldn't be allowed to pick out their own clothes, let alone give orders to a development team. Out of all the games I've seen people make unauthorized servers for this is the one I'm actually hoping crops up someday.

It just wasn't a very good game. It had potential, but all it really delivered was a small themepark shooter with horrible class leveling mechanics and boring quests. Firefall never knew what it wanted to be, and it shows.

I have hundreds of hours on that game so I definitely got my money's worth. Sorry to see it go but they just couldn't settle on a version and stick with it. It probably peaked in 2014 or so.

I had the fortune to enjoy the game with the biggest clan there was a couple of years ago. Must admit that it was rather fun while it lasted, doing raids with dozens of players, chatting with the guys and girls over teamspeak, grinding the different frames... it was a good few months.

Worth noting that the original game concept was going to be a three-faction (Accord, Chosen, and Ascendant) open world game where you compete against the other factions to control melding territory alongside progressing an overarching plot driven by player efforts to push the melding around and conquer, save, or wreck the planet.

Pretty much all of that got paired back to a single-faction title with the PvP shunted into arena style battles. It'd always been an ambitious game, even after getting culled back, because there was much about the mechanics and design they wanted to innovate fundamentally.

I spent around four and a half years in Firefall. During the first three I had a blast. Then came the bad times... During which The9 tried to turn the game into Gun of Warcraft™... It was all down hill from there.

For those interested Grummz (Mark Kerns) is in the process of creating another game, that will be much closer to his original vision.  The final funding round for the initial demo just finished.  They needed $20,000 and made more than $107,000, so its well on its way.

I hate mobile games. Played games for years to get away from the small screen and now they are "pushing" that crap again. No thanks.

This game had a lot of untapped potential, the issue is they took what made it unique and scraped it in favor of a more liner system.
