How many of you will play Auto Assault?

Krky7Krky7 Member UncommonPosts: 50
Greetings!

I apologize if this has already been posted.

I'd like to know how many of you plan on checking Auto Assault out once it hits the shelves? What are your opinions on this title? I'm wondering that because this game really got my attention. I am a bonafide fantasy freak and I just adore games with fantasy elements, but for some reason the idea of this game blew me away. I am not even into cars or any kind of land-based vehicles, I view them simply as means of getting from point A to point B. Then along comes AA and I go bonkers over the notion of driving my ten-ton truck or an armored motorcycle through a post-cataclismic landscape. Maybe it's the possibility of creating BOTH character AND a vehicle. Maybe it's that Mad Max meets Fallout meets Wild West flavor. I don't know. But I suddenly find myself willing to give up magic swords of WoW and power pools of CoH for a taste of gasoline and cybernetic implants of Auto Assault.

Just wanted to check if I'm the only one.

In the meantime, feast yer eyes on these:

http://www.autoassault.com/index.html

And in the downloads section, under Music, be sure to download a little tune called Wanderer Part 1, just to get you in the mood.

Awesome stuff.

Thanks for your time.

No. I tried open beta for a couple of hours, and it didn't impress me. I'm not saying it's a bad game, but the idea of going around in a car most of the time doesn't appeal to me...probably why I didn't like EVE much.

You tried beta? Wow. Can you please tell me if  there's an option of switching between cameras? For example, you drive around a bit and the camera views your car, and then you switch to in-the-cockpit view? I think this type of game would need an option like that to break the potential monotony...

So, where can you get out of the car? And can you fight without a car? I couldn't get that info anywhere...

    Thanks!

No cockpit view. You can change the camera position around your car though. You leave your car in towns, to shop and craft and stuff, no fighting though.

Is there anyone who didn't try it?

Too bad about the lack of cockpit view and pedestrian fighting...

... but I just saw the choice of weapons you can get if you preorder, and, I hate to say it, but I'm sold.

I never preordered a game and I know it's just a marketing gimmick, but a little ten-year-old boy inside me is saying something along the lines of: "Let's mount that big gun on top of our way cool car and blow some shit up." Over and over.

    I owe this to myself.

After beta testing AA for a few hours each day for a week, here is my opinion:

Overall - I didnt like it. It lacked that special something that drags you in. I really dont like being a car... and not only that but a car that looks like everyone else. The quests are standard go to x get y, return to z, kill a b and c on the way. Combat is fun for about 5 minutes when you just unleash your minigun and tear everything up... then it gets old and annoying and boring to just target lock and hold down the mouse button.

The community during the the time I played (1700 - 2100) was either A) non-existant, or B) very silent. Which is better than a bunch of loud-mouthed idiots, but still not good.

I didnt have a chance to get into crafting very much, so i cannot and will not try to give an impression of that.

If you like blowing stuff up, it'll be fun for a week, maybe a month. But it really lacks a certain depth that MMO's need. I would venture to say it has less depth than CoH and CoV, which had little.

I think by the marketing campaign, it is made for younger players, who like fast-paced, noob-friendly, and combat-centric games. I'm not saying its a bad thing, if you are like that then this game is great for you. And I am a big fan of companies making games targeted for a specific audience, rather than make sacrifices on everything to please everybody.

So, In conclusion: This game does not appeal to me, nor do I think it would appeal to any MMO veterans who are more interested in depth and community rather than blowing stuff up. But as always, try it yourself to make up your mind. Just don't go throwing your money away before you know enough. (I've done that too many times now.)

Tried it, was not impressed.   Was an ok game but not something I'd be dropping anything for.

  • admriker444admriker444 Member Posts: 1,526

I tried it and honestly its not a bad game but not really very complex either

Plan on soloing a lot. Grouping just isnt needed. I heard at the end-game you may need groups for a few things but not until then.

FPS combat - not my cup of tea. This is a typical FPS with your basic point and click combat.

Quests - reminds me of CoH, boring and felt like a waste of time. I found myself skipping them to just go out and blow stuff up

environment - This was the best part about the game. Basically anything can be shot, pushed, or blown up.

Movement - it was rather fun driving around. There was a bridge I found that was missing sections. You could jump them if you got enough speed going.

bugs / lag - for a beta version, its pretty clean. I ran into two bugs that werent game breakers (animation and sound) and had workarounds to them. Not much lag either but my system is top end and a fast cable connection. This game definitely requires 2 gigs of ram and a high end video card

community - hard to say as it was beta. Even more difficult to predict the type of gamer it will attract. Its a casual friendly very easy game to play so it might bring in the young crowd. It does seem rather RP friendly so that might bring in that crowd.

crafting - I didnt get into it at all. The tutorial didnt cover it so I was basically lost trying to start crafting

Overall - Its not a bad game really. Its not the greatest thing ever either. I guess you can think of it as a clone of City of Heroes except solo play is much more likely.

I played beta and the game is good, but it's just not for me.  I am waiting for Fallen Earth, which will be much more my style.  For all of you who are going to play AA, have fun!

    Well, well, well.

The comments on this board are so thought-out and elaborate that I actually feel compelled to ask you for your opinions and insights about every game I might consider playing.

I was fired up about this game, but you made me stop, drop and roll.  And reconsider. I had two browser windows open last night. On one there was this forum, and on the other the form for pre-ordering Auto Assault. I had already picked up my bonus weapon - the Redeemer. So I clicked back and forth and was just a few small steps away from pre-ordering the game, but your posts kept coming, and with each one I felt my common sense was returning to me bit by bit.

Thank you for making me save some money. I'll definitely wait for the game to hit the shelves. I need more positive feedback before I decide to put a third MMOG on my plate.

    Much obliged.

  • nikoliathnikoliath Member UncommonPosts: 1,154

Well, tbh you have missed out. Pre-order and you can play for free until the 9th of April i think ( as long as you get the pre-order code ) and make your own choice. If you don't like it cancel the order, simple.

    Sadly for you, these people do not know what you like, what constitutes as fun for you. But since you're asking;

    I have found AA to be perhaps the most fun I've had out of an MMORPG for a long time. I've played many;

    Anarchy Online

    Neocron 1/2

    Eve online

    Matrix Online

    Saga of Ryzom

    Lineage 2

    SWG

    DDO

    CoH / CoV

    WW2 online

etc, and while all of the above have their strengths Auto Assault is just plain fun -for me- . I enjoy speeding about and just leveling the place killing everything that moves and destroying all the structures.

Someone mentioned the mission system being go to A kill B return to C. This is indeed the case, but as I have said many times before MOST mission systems in MMOGS use this system as there is no alternative.

Level advancement seems pretty quick and there are plenty of missions to do. the fact that you drive a car means that movement around the world is pretty painless and does not end up a huge timesink and be passed of as 'content' .

You can even call INC to come pick you up and deliver you to your destination ( as long as you have tagged it first ).

Crafting seems fairly good, you can reverse engineer stuff you pick up to make more of them, you can buy broken stuff ( blueprints basicly ) to make. And material harvesting is FUN, you blow the crap out of anything to get materials to drop. None of this crappy EQ2 click, wait nothing, click wait ZzZzzzz.

Community; Quiet yes, but this is Beta/gamma phase and so population is now low and a wipe is due next week so you can't expect much there.

PvP -- no idea not tried it.

The different classes seem to work well and there are some nifty skills to play with.

All in all I rate the game highly, its casual friendly and ENJOYABLE. Putting your spaceship on autopilot while it makes 38 jumps ( eve ) is not fun. Having to read a book or watch TV while playing means a game is lacking in the enjoyment department. Walking for an age accross the map to a mission instance only to get ganked and lose your stuff is not fun.. AA is, for me anyway.

    TRY it.

Now that I agree on. The physics was a fun thing to mess around with, but just like playing Oblivion, there are so many times you will be impressed. Apart from shoothing things, to see them blow up, having a car jump realistically is pretty cool.

I leveled pretty quick, but honestly it wasn't fun doing it. Now I know this is a personal choice, but I want to ability to get off the grind for a while, and do something else. And I didn't find anything to do in AA except for grind.

Firstly, what's gamma? It's alpha/beta....lol. Anyway - Wrong. I played in Open Beta and it was bloody empty. There were ads all over MMORPG and other sites...no excuse.

Won't buy it or play it.

I'll try to post as well as some others have (thought out etc).

When I first got into the beta I was actually quite impressed.  The reason was I was doing something in Auto Assault I don't do in many MMO's anymore.  I was laughing and having a good time.

Seriously driving around blowing crap up just was amusing.  Having crafting items drop from buildings and things I blew up was amusing.  Running over the fleeing npc's was amusing.  I thought that it was fun but there wasn't much to it.

I realized there was crafting and it appeared from talking to one npc.. some kind of player housing.  So I thought it was fun and there were aspects I hadn't seen.

At some point they revoked all beta testers and only those with pre-order codes could log into the beta.  Now quite a few games have had head start period where only pre-orders could access it.  But I don't think I was ever actually booted from a beta before because I hadn't pre-order.

In a round about way this was strike one.

Then they started bringing up in game advertising.  Now you can play the base Anarchy Online game for free if you want to see advertising.  I really didn't want to pay to watch more commercials even if they were done as well (in game immersive) as those in AO.

    strike two.

The last patch I saw notes and read feedback on was from around the 1st of April or 28th or March (I forget).

The second major nerf to crafting.  To much to it to really post out and I am a crafter at heart.

    Strike three.

Then then did a major hit on player storage (limited to 4 slots max in your car/locker).  Now from what I remember a slot is made up of little boxes.  So where you may fit multiple stacks of small things in a "slot" you can only fit one large thing like a chasis.

This major limit to storage affects all players.. but now think of your crafter trying to hold items so that you can 'grind' on crafting.  They also toned down the amount of craft drops.

This just put it over the edge for me.

It also just irritated me because after SWG then the major nerfs lately in EQ2 I am just sick of it all.

Rather than worrying about bugs, game play and other issues.  Its always phuck the players.

    Definition:

Bug:   Anything that negatively affects players and will take years to fix if it ever is fixed.

Exploit:  Anything that positively affects players and will be fixed in 24 hours or less.

Now I think Exploits should be fixed... I just believe "bugs" should have the same kind of attention when it comes to the fix it department.

I also believe its time for balance to mean:

Make all classes equally fun to play.

    Rather than...

Make them all play equally like crap.

To me the AA devs just showed their line of thinking before launch.  Nerf it nerf it nerf it.

    So to wrap it up...

It looked fun but they lost me as a potential customer for the various reasons listed.

In all honesty.. i really hated auto assualt, and yes hate is a strong word but its true, i hated the camera angles and just pretty much everything about it except the nice things in the game were the story plot, the characters and the decent graphics, but thats pretty much it, i played it for 30 minutes and got rid of it

I didn't like the game much either when I played the weekend beta. The concept I really like considering I like driving games .. but in the end the game wasn't that much fun Imho.

The combat is pretty bland, you target an enemy and then let the dicethrows do the work. The way you drive when you have some fwd mounted weapons seemed to have some effect but in the end wether you miss or hit seemed more dependant on dicerolls than driving or any strategy .. this becomes esspecially visible when you try to drive over higher level pedestrians and hit him but do no damage because the diceroll says you miss.

The driving portion wasn't that fun either .. you have forward, backwards, left and right and thats it. Theres no drifting around corners, manual shifting, slipping out of control or any noticible diffrence in the terrain you drive on except top speed.

Probably my whole disliking the game is because of me disliking the dicethrow/stat system found in many rpgs .. I was definitly hoping this game was more 'simulation' esque following in the footsteps of Carmageddon, Interstate 76/86 and Vigilinte 8 (I loved that game back on the n64).

Auto Assault is not even a niche game like Eve online, it's just a FLOP. At least NCSoft took some risk on this game, too bad for the result...

First of all Krky7, it seems like you have a vested monetary interest in the success of this game.  Its just your post seems too, shall I say, "professionalized" for me to think you are one of us gamers in the normal sense.

But just for the record, I absolutely love this game, and the concept.  I was an old Car Wars fan back in the old days, and love Mad Max and the whole "post-apocalyptic" genre.  I'm also a speed freak, and a motorcycle enthusiast.

I would really, really love to be a part of this game.  Sadly though, two things are are making this game a "non possibility" for me.

    1)  The Pre-Order reward was "over the top" in my opinion, and there is simply no point in buying the game after launch, seeing as how I will always and forever be "gimped" in the looting department compared to everyone else.

    2)  Integrated voice chat is a dealbreaker for me.  I don't use it, and I don't want to be somewhere that the players require it.  It just crosses a line I don't want crossed, and destroys my sense of immersion and roleplay.

So that's my dillemma, and why I'm not going to be there.  But I hope the game is a success, because I hope some other publisher will come out with a game that has all the good things Auto Assault does, but does not integrate voice chat, and does not buff their pre-order faithful in an inordinate way.

I fully intend to get this game, and I already have. True its a review copy and all, but I would have paid for it either way. I haven't enjoyed an MMO this much since, well since I don't even remember. My review will certainly show my enthusiasm for the game.

I remember bringing up drifting during the beta.  It was pretty disappointing that I couldn't slide around turns and I thought maybe I just wasn't doing something right.

The folks that were playing at the time told me to hold down the break and slide side ways when I stopped.  After explaining that that's not what I was talking about they told me to get tires that had bad traction on the surface that I was driving on.

    That didn't work either.

That was just one of the many let downs that I experienced.  I didn't like the game, but I would just be repeating what everyone else has said if I went into my reasons.  The posters here have really hit the'ol nail on the head.
