I always thought that Aion was only PvP.
Can I really play campaign in this MMO as solo player?
Not sure what you mean by that?
There is a whole pvp side and a whole pve side. It used to be that players from the other faction could cross over by gates and attack you in certain maps. Not sure if they eliminated that but I do think they changed something with that.
There are certain maps that do have the other side inhabiting.
Still, if you want to just play pve go ahead, there is a lot of pve content. But there is a possibility in some areas to be attacked. no big deal you don't lose anything.

Ok, there is a safer levelling instance - which still has you going to the pvp abyss at low level as gank fodder - and once you're thrown out of this safe levelling, then you're basically cannon fodder for higher geared players who are just waiting for you to enter the pvp areas.
For me, they've struggled to get over the basic fact that their much vaunted pvpve game didn't work out so well - which they really should have known beforehand.
After the initial rush to try the new AAA mmo it quickly lost population numbers, as players turned it into pvpvexit.
Now they are stuck with this handicapping formula, which only served to prove that forced pvp and pve playstyles just do not mix that well.
This is a cool feature but depends on how it actually plays out in game.My experience over many games has shown me that pets are usually meaningless, only in FFXI did i ever find pets to actually be very useful to the point of being more powerful than me.However the thread is about "instances"this is the biggest turn off for me,i detest instance gaming, might as well eliminate the term MMO if you are talking about instances unless of course they are a public or open instance.

I have been saying this forever, pvp and PVE cannot mix unless you want to degrade your game to accommodate both.

That's really not true, for starters, although you have campaigns in the abyss around lvl 25, nobody messes with you. Same goes for once you hit 60 and get kicked off FT server. You can almost entirely avoid PvP until 65 and then, yes, if you want to grind in the open world, you face PvP.
The people who abandoned it after release fell into two categories. Casuals who didn't like the grind and players who didn't know it was PvPvE or thought it would be like WoW's flag & BG system. It had a very healthy player base for a long time and in Korea it is still a top MMO. That said, it is a niche game, you have to enjoy PvP and really, you hatve to have played for a while to enjoy it. It's not noob friendly like WoW and FFXIV where you can be max geared in a few weeks.
This poster knows what he is talking about.

still no antialiasing?
From what I've read on the forums and through a couple community sites. If you don't invest a LOT of time into the game. And are not currently up on the gear grind. Then the game is largely inaccessible. As the developers have long since given up on attracting new players. In favor of keeping a steep treadmill for their core player-base to continue having reasons to play the game. An old friend of mine said that to catch up within a couple of months. I'd need to be unemployed and play the game whenever I'm not sleeping.
No thanks.
