Hah! I was about to post exactly the same thread, but with the Title...
Desperate Attempt...
Doesn't anyone else think that this is just a desperate attempt to get more players. I really think they're starting to see the writing on the wall, once people are forced to try soloing, (because they can't find a group on the already underpopulated servers) that they will start quitting in droves. Thus the darkly comedic warning.

Get more players? Nah, deter more players perhaps. I think they are making it real clear that they are aiming to be a group-centric game only (people who like solo play be damned). That's ok, but I think it will limit casual gameplayers from trying the game out. You can't just jump in, play for an hour, and jump out. You have to jump in, immediately form a team with guildmates or PUG (which may take you a few minutes to forever), then play.
-------------- Played: Age of Conan, DDO, Saga of Ryzom, SWG, DaOC, MxO, EQ2, and so on... Wish List: Jumpgate Evolution, Star Wars: TOR, Star Trek
I agree, I think it is more to deter people that want to play a solo mmorpg or to put it in the proper context that D&D is not a solo game. I remember a few months back on the LoTRO forum board they had a dev diary with something like "Friends don't let friends tank balrogs" which was basically the same thing. I think LoTRO is going to be a very group centric game but with more solo friendliness then DDO.
I posted a few times in the DDO beta forums that the marketing dept. needs to make sure that they communicate DDO is a very group centric game or else you are going to have alot of expectations smashed to pieces. This video seems to be going in that direction which is a very good thing. But with all the reviews and word of mouth now, if you don't know DDO is a group game, then you didn't do a very good job of researching it.
Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!
The quality of DDO aside, I hate soloing. It's boring as hell for me and I think it sucks, but I wouldn't stop anyone from wanting a game like that. However, this isn't it. Move along.

Baby steps ... baby steps. They're catching enough crap right now from their loyalists about solo play, PvP, and introducing Drow (and not bumping the level cap).
Not raising the level cap tells me that they're still trying to raise the numbers of their playerbase, not keep their existing players. From their perspecive, a new player lured in by the "more solo content" announcement is starting at the bottom rung, and will not care one whit what the level cap is for this module.
Does this mean you are going to reactivate your DDO account for the solo content? Or do you just love to hate this game?

It means that I'm going to wait and see how they implement what they implement, provided the game stays viable long enough for them to implement any of it.
However, it also means that I'm thoroughly enjoying the sweet irony of Turbine having the balls to release a "Friends Don't Let Friends Solo" video campaign while they are, in fact, in the planning stages of putting solo content in their game. And finally, it also means that I'm waiting to see how the DDO fanboys and Turbine apologists try to spin thier way out of this one.
But then again, this is a compnay that announced an expansion to AC2 then proceeded to shut down the servers, so the fanboys and apologists should've seen it coming from a mile away. A lot of the rest of us surely did.

Nice, I will look forward to your indepth analysis of the DDO forums a few days after this stuff gets implemented.

If they add content I can run through when I am groupless (i.e. always have something to do) and add a real world around the city we can explore I'll definately check it out. Until then though I am just gonna watch and see. Beta scared me way off this stinker unfortunately.

I consider Pick Up Groups to be lots of fun.
Given the choice of:
a. a sharp stick in the eye
b. chewing glass
c. gaming in a pick up group
Most gamers will respond, what were the first two options again?
Captain John Matin
Royal Red
Actually, I watched it, and in all fairness...
I thought it was lame at best. But typical Turbine stuff.

Turbine is horrible. this movie is a joke an it prooves that they dont support solo players.
RIP > D&D

Not a single friend of mine was forced to endure the farce that is DD0 thanks to my warnings.
