The Civilization series has often been my escape game of choice. It shouldn’t be too hard to imagine why a game series known for its addictiveness (just. one. more. turn.) would be a great candidate to escape into, but it really is where I go to when I need to just disconnect and burn some hours away.

Well for decompressing I like the Galactic Civ games or Masters of Orion or even Darkest Dungeon.

Also like jumping into Skyrim a lot.

I've been making a Skyrim mod for the past 2 years (almost done) and you wouldn't believe how much time that tends to use (though part of that is being frustrated at the bugginess of the creation kit).

Just installed SIMS Medieval as that looks fun.

Probably LOTR Online for me, even though the community has scaled down quite a bit since it launched forever ago, still fun to play and people are always respectful and decent. It used to be WOW but honestly that community has become so toxic over the years that I end up turning off most of the chat when I play, typically on new expansions only.

Played a lot of Civ over the years, definitely can be considered my escape game when all other games are just not delivering or the internet connection dies. Have to say though, really haven't enjoyed 6 as much as the others in the series.

I usually play city/empire builders like Civ and Master of Orion. I'm playing Aven Colony now which is fun (but challenging) at times. Tropico 4 is a favorite until the music gets annoying.

I'm struggling to select a particular game, as gaming in general is the hobby I use to unwind, so all titles are "escape games."

Infamous on PS. Just glide around and beat up (shock) a few thugs, help me de-stress.

When are we going to get a new make your own superhero action MMO? Come on...somebody gotta see the potential in this?

EVE for me, only game I regularly have returned to.

I only play one game at a time and go all in until I'm done with it, rarely to ever revisit. (Same way I read novels)

Too many games out there I've never had a chance to play so no time for going back.

When you say 'escape', I think of games that enable me to turn my brain off... simple games that don't require much thought and are accessible whenever I feel the need (the need!) to game.

This, for me, would be any number of mobile (paid! because I don't do the FTP thing) games on my phone. Like most, I always have my phone with me and popping open a game for a few minutes is just a few taps away.

When I have several hours to play, though, I go for either UO or BOTW. Yea, I know, UO is old as hell and people are already getting over BOTW, but those are my go-tos. I've played UO for almost 20 years and it's still a ton of fun to play with friends and help out new or returning players. UO is one of those games that creates a stable timeline among all of the changes in my life over the last two decades. BOTW, on the other hand, has only been out for a few months, but I've already sunk 150 hours into it. A final caveat -- I know 150 doesn't sound like a lot to many (and even to my younger self, it's still pitifully noobish), but with how busy I am, 150 is an incredible feat!

Looking forward to Switch Skyrim, PoE2, and just more free time for gaming in general. We've all got that Steam backlog to clear!

Yeah i had a few,Unreal Tournament,Bandit Kings of Ancient china,Langrisser 2,the Shining in Darkness series and a few others.I like playing a lot of the Final Fantasy games.
However it is pretty much as the one guy said ,,all games are an escape, they are not meant to be real life or something i would put every thing else aside to game.

Pretty much similar to watching a movie,a bit of free time, sit back and be entertained.

I only touch games like these when I am forced to travel for work. Civ Revolution 2 I recently picked up on IOS only to be disappointed how too soon it ends.

It has been Civ5 for me for years. I was even gifted Civ6 but I still find myself playing 5 instead most of the time. 2813 hours played :)

I totally forgot the one series i have been playing since forever and still play, having played just 2 days ago and that is the Age of Empire games.

By definition "escape"i think he means by yourself no mmo gaming, nothing new but keep going back to time and time again.

Populous: The Beginning for me. It's almost 20 years old and it's still the best game I've ever played!

I'm a Civ guy, too. I always have that on my drive. I like it because I can snack or eat lunch at my desk in between turns.

its the civ series for me too. Civ5 is in my opinion the best of them.
I am a scizo misanthrope. So one day I may go BANZAI on your post.
Have not yet though. Maybe there is hope?

My current escape game is Elite Dangerous in my Occulus Rift - I can seriously cruise around a solar system and explore the planets/moons in my SRV for hours and be happy I didn't earn a single credit.

Hmmmm... if this is what we meant by 'escape' (returning to a game many times), I'd stick with my UO statement but also add Baldur's Gate 2. One of my favorite games of all time and I never get tired of the story or gameplay. [Edited to remove excess breaks]

Wurm Online. Perfect for watching movies and grindning skills at the same time.

For me, it is Mount & Blade Warband, Crusader Kings 2, CS:GO and League of Legends (Yes i do have fun playing LoL, but i only play casual matchs).

I like Civ 5, had lots of fun playing the Game of Thrones mod, but IMO CK2 is just better.

Cities Skylines - very peaceful, very pretty, quite engaging but you can just sit back and relax if you want to. It encourages creativity too which always helps lighten the mood (unless you're a perfectionist, then it can be maddening!).

Final Fantasy 7 - remains my favourite game of all time and is permanently installed on my PC. You can usually advance the story far enough in a short gaming session, or you can go off and grind some enemies if that's the mood you're in. Possibly a bit weird that I've been playing the same game for 20 years now...

Total War - was shogun, then medieval, then medieval 2, now warhammer. The total war series has provided tons of entertainment over the years. Being turn based I can just chill, and the battles can be pretty epic.
Currently Playing: WAR RoR - Spitt rr7X Black Orc | Scrotling rr6X Squig Herder | Scabrous rr4X Shaman

I like the civ series too. Civ6 is technically so much better, better gameplay, better balance, but for some reason many people are stuck in Civ5.
