This weekend, players got to experience the first taste of the Path of Fire expansion. The expansion takes us to the sunburnt wilds of the Crystal Desert, to combat the rising threat of Balthazar, Kralkatorrik and even the Lich, Palawa Joko. Astride their glorious raptor mounts, player got to experience a small chunk of the first map along with the first stage of the story episode that will launch us in to the expansion.

For starters there are community guilds on all servers that usually organise WvW events and besides that their members generally participate in all kind of other activities such as open world PvE, exploration, Fractals and raids. Being a member of different guilds gives you more possibilities to chose from the type of group content you are interested in. Not to mention that it is beneficial to find other players that are active at the same occasions you are playing. Joining multiple guilds is really good for covering your gaming sessions with various guild activites that match your schedule.
@Bill : I am sure you were just as positive about HoT at the time.
PS I have been playing GW2 on and off for years so I can see the good things but also the not-so-good things
Its not just this site. They all do this to promote clicks on their sites. This is why you should use your brain instead of getting caught up in the hype. If they were willing to let players preview the first new zone you can bet it will be the newbie starter zone of the expansion.
The unidentified gears problem that was mentioned by this reviewer did not go into details of the downside at all. Salvaging unidentified gears does not give ectos and the overall cost of identifying them just to salvage will plunge you into a loss. Why would you want to identify? it's because rares and exotics are in them too. Potentially, there is a possibility of salvaging precursor.
There is a huge discussion about it in GW2 official forum. There are some people suggesting this system is possibly put in place for the introduction of Gemstore IDing Kits. Indeed, this might be why the basic cost of the PoF is as low as $30 in comparison to pricier HoT.
Please go to GW2 official forum to check out the discussion. It seems to be introduction of huge gold sink and lots of ppl seems to be rather unhappy.
Another problem that came up in this PoF demo is Motion Sickness for quite a number participants as a result from using mount. There is a major discussion going on in the official GW2 forum too regarding this. Anet has not come up with an official solution for it.
Please beware mounts are integral part of the PoF maps for travelling. And if there isn't going to be a clear cut solution to this, this could affect you. So, please keep this in mind before purchasing.
There are also some criticism that the content of demo are rather bland though the maps and mounts are visually pleasing. The East side of the map (2/3 revealed) feels very barren. Indeed, there doesn't seem to be any major meta events show cased in the demo. Overall, the map feels like GW2 vanilla leveling maps. Whether that is a good thing or not, it's not for me to say because it's a rather subjective matter.
It is not entirely clear whether the barren area was barren for the purpose of the demo or it will be barren when it's released.
Elite spec demo is next weekend. If they still allowed access to the demo map, please do make sure you don't get motion sickness from the mount and look+feel the map for yourself.
Beware that a lot of reviewers and youtubers of this game are closer to an extension of Anet's marketing department rather than an objective one.
It is a desert - it is supposed to be barren. Did you think they turned off many of the major events because it would give too much away? I am just asking because it feels people like to complain just because they can.
If you have played the previous HoT beta, they didn't turn off the meta event but rather cut off. They didn't release the full map but all of the contents for that part of map were all there. So, IF the they followed the same pattern, then we can probably expect it will be like that on release.
When I say barren, it's not exactly per se barren. There are mobs there but there are literally huge space of nothing happening. There are no events chain passing through them. There are sporadic pop up for bounties on some part, that's about it.
That's why I said this is probably one part that people playing the demo has to objectively consider and look at. Not everything in GW2 is sunshine and flowers.
All I am saying is ppl needs to approach with caution when it comes to GW2:PoF. PoF is an expansion/extension of HoT. It doesn't follow the core design manifesto of GW2 vanilla. As matter of fact the original vanilla team designers were long gone.
HoT was one heck of a mess.
I had fun over the weekend creating different classes to see how they handled the new content. Didn't get motion sickness but that thread is very big in the GW2 forums.

You can
The PoF FAQs, however, clearly state that you do not need HoT in order to play PoF, so however much it follows HoT, it apparently isn't enough to require that content.
This makes me think that Anet got it that the community is sour on HoT and may just be kicking it to the curb. This expansion either mends things with players or loses them for good.
I will miss the dynamic events that started in one zone and took you across the zone which ended in a big dynamic event. The new events are more like public raids. This is why I still mostly do the original content. Look forward to using mounts in Tyria.

Is it the same with the glider as well? And how is it in other mounted MMOs?
Anyways, this will be a huge problem once MMOs go into VR because that is many times worse. In my case I noticed no problems by being on a mount.
Did anyone who did feel motion sickness tried messing with the camera settings? It would be logical to assume that the right setting would at least help somewhat.
I know motion sickness is a real problem and are not trying to make light of it.
I guess ANet's strategy is to sell HoT along with PoF for the extra revenue. Telling the audience that HoT is not required to play PoF is telling that new/returning players don't need to have access to Gliding, Revenant, HoT Elite Specs. I guess HoT raids remain exclusive to HoT too. Sure we need all those features they're just not requirements. In my opinion it is advised to own HoT to fully enjoy PoF regardless of the fact that PoF will be a standalone content package alongside with HoT. I truly hope that ANet are confident in boosting HoT sales by the success of PoF. In that case the new content package should treat us really well right from the start. At least I hope so. The first demo weekend seemed to be very promising for me.
Same here! I'm really happy with what I've seen and played so far. As a GW1 player I hated HoT, it felt like it deviated too much from the lore and world that I had grown so attached to in the first game, among other reasons.
First time I've heard of it also and I've played a lot of MMO's with mounts. Just about everything you can think of has been suggested and tried. Worked better for some people but not all. Zooming out helped some, changing camera settings. One guy said the sliding stop the mounts do and the mounting and dismounting animations were really bad for his motion sickness.
Someone did comment on another game that had that as a problem and said one of the devs who worked on the project had motion sickness problems so he build in some setting to correct it to a degree.

I turn motion blur down, and have the camera FoV out as far as it can go by default, turn off camera shake so I had no issues with motion sickness. I'm one of those that get motion sickness from games with terrible FoV and no reticle in the center of the screen so I make extra sure I set the settings to how I need them.
