I'd love to play an MMO in the 'old west', but I guess I'll have to wait until one is made where I have a little more control over my in-game gameplay experience.

Sounds good on paper.  We will see how it actually plays out.  Nice that they are attempting bring some risk vs reward to the genre.

Once AGAIN a PC (politically correct) game appeasing to the 10% who like PVP. CYA in the "discount bin " in a few months.

This system wont work if people can have multiple accounts. It sounds good, maybe even fun.  However what is stopping Mr multi-boxer from building up a bounty griefing people with one account and then collecting the big bounty with his other account ?  Repeat.

Well, if true, that's really disappointing.

This proposed karma system is nothing new, heck its almost a direct copy of the same one used in Fallout New Vegas which I'm currently playing.

What really matters is the impact of wearing gear. If a small group of under geared or even naked players can take down a fully geared one, we've seen in the past how that will likely go.

Alt accounts with good standing have often supplied those with bad karma, one way around it would be to limit trading by players with bad karma to only other players with similar bad standing.

Thing is, over the years we've seen players work around the best efforts Devs have tried in open world PVP games, I'll be surprised if this team can really pull it off

All these "karma systems" ultimately fail, because they're attempting to prevent a certain group from doing the very thing that they see as the whole point of the game.

Many have tried to implement "PVP with consequences", but inevitably the consequences are either weak sauce or else the players find work-arounds.

Sergey Titov / War-Z is a scoundrel in the MMO world and hasn't done enough praying in the church to lower his standing on the NA server. Therefore his punishment is f%#k him and this game.

Yeah i had my eyes on this game,it does look good,i just don't feel like many devs are good at handling the pvp side of things.
IMO most devs don't see the big picture when trying to recreate realism.
Obviously in the real wild west, every minute your life may be in danger ,however there would be vigilantes,Marshall's,Judges etc etc, there was likely some form of recourse and dead was dead,no coming back.

My point is that it is a game and it is NOT nor will it ever recreate realism unless your going to actually die for good,so even death is FAKE in gaming.Point being, since your not even treating death as such, then obviously you can and should bend all the other rules as well.

This is why we need penalties and some form of repercussion towards ideals we don't really want.

IMO the real truth behind devs always going for open pvp is their games do not have enough content to survive without it.So if players can't go around shooting each other, they will get bored. It really says that developers should put more work/effort into their games to keep players interested long term.

You should watch the linked video above, author makes a pretty good case outside of the engine tie in.

I'm just going to follow his advice to hold off buying until some time post release, which is my standard practice these days.

Well that is obvious to many of us, putting out a game this quick means poor quality and limited content.  The game could surprise, but viewing that video does not provide a lot of confidence in that theory.

Definitely not one of those games you take a chance on pre-purchase.
