Warning: 0.0 is Boring :P

grimbojgrimboj Member Posts: 2,102
I tried this game out for quite a while, 8 months in total and towards the end I fiinally settled into a 0.0 alliance only to realise its desperately boring. The PvP is full of the most nerdy cowards I have ever seen, its either 10 against 1 or nothing and on the rare occasions that 50+ people get together they avoid all conflict!

Anyway, as a n00b 0.0 is a myth that drives you with the presumption that fun and endless pvp await and I'm just trying to highlight that :-
a) You will either lose a very expensive ship or never fly a good ship.
b) Everyone will run away from you.
c) ... Or decloak 10 of their friends.

hmmm obvious flame bait here according to his xfire he has played less than an hour of eve since July 17 2005, but he may have not have had xfire up either hmm. I think you would generate more time than that just longing in to change skills in 8 months time.

Anyways if your alliance has competant Fleet Commanders even if the buggers run you will eventually catch them. Now granted I have only played Eve for 7 months but the only time I have been around when 70+ pilots of opposing sides ran into each other it was a blood bath....... mostly for them.

There is one thing I do realize though at the seven month point I still have a lot to learn.

Hmm...appears the Planetside fps types are attempting to troll random boards.

Incase no one is aware of what's happened in Planetside.  One of the long time members had copied a video of EVE and tried to pawn it off as his own unique idea just for Planetside.  The video used the same soundtrack, the same monolouge including splash sequences and stylized/scripted engagements to coincide with EVE's video.

When the theft of an idea was found out there had been a handfull of Planetside fps mentalities attepting to support theft of an idea as a unique product.  SOE even stickied this intelectual theft on their forums with the view that it's an unofficial-Planetside-promotion.

Very sad.  This is what has come to be expected from SOE's poor ability to challenge creative thinking.

Here's the -REAL- EVE Never Fades video.  Enjoy!!

p.s. not waisting my time with the poor effort of theivery.  Planetside players have it bad enough as it is.  ;)

People always try to play grammar police when they have no other worthy points to argue. If you start railing on someone because of one misspelled word, then you truly don't have anything worthwhile to say.

Boring? ehh...If you think its boring travel through 0.0 (specificly Aridia) for a bit and youll find plenty of action. Honestly the gate camps there are only (if its only you) 3vs1, and usually the single pirates in the region will engage you.

Your talking about alliance politics and tactics. IE attack where the enemies weak, retreat when they are strong. Its an effective tactic of conserving manpower for important strikes at the enemy. If you dont like that then get into the special ops unit of your corp, they usually get into even , if not outnumbered fights. Besides 0.0 is mostly empty space, if you want it to be a simply melee then go to .4.

I agree to an extent that 0.0 is boring, I've played the game for over a year and alot of that time i've lived in 0.0. The PvP in 0.0 is rare and when you do it normally consists of  70vs20 but that's RA for you :( It is nice when you happen to pop one of their haulers and get POS equipment + Local hulls

Of course that might just be the Great Wildlands but the chances of you finding someone to get a good fight is small cause most people just fly around in Battleships/HACs and that's no fun if you're trying solo but it's nice if you're in a group XD

I would say that 0.0 is boring and not worth it if you are solely a carebear.  As a carebear you are better served killing, mining, and manufacturing in Empire.  Alliance battles are boring and uneventful for 90% of the time, just like "real war."  Ask any real military person that has been in a combat zone how much time they spent bored off their ass versus the time they spent "in the shit."  EVE is only exciting for pvp about 10% of the time and that is only if you are looking to pvp.  Of course being a carebear can be exciting in 0.0 when you are ratting or mining and an enemy fleet pops in your system, but if you are smart you have a Super Safe bm to jump to and it is just a cat and mouse game.

Being successful in 0.0 is all about risk.  The more you are willing to risk, the more you are going to be rewarded with exciting gameplay.  If you are a newb, this may mean that all you can do is go out in a cruiser, but if you are willing to risk it all, you can have a really good time.

    1) "Some1" isn't perfect English.  I'ts hypocritical typing.  He's shouting the word "dumb" because its the only thing the moron knows how to spell.

    2) A word of advice: Never take advice about a game from a person who doesn't play it.  IE: these people saying they're experienced Eve players with XFire sigs saying they play SWG, Lineage 2, WoW, but nowhere on their top 2 or top 4 does it say anything related to Eve Online.

    3) 0.0 is always boring when you hang out inside stations.

    4) If you want a fight, go looking for one.  In 0.0, you'll find one.  My guess is that you're complaining that there's nothing to do while you mine in your secluded little slice of space.  Go find a fight if you want one so badly.  $20 says that you'll find one within three to four jumps.

    5) Fleet tactics have been introduced long before you began your little, and I do mean little, 8 month reign of terror.  The odds are in favor of them knowing what they're doing, and you not knowing.  Sit back, relax, learn a bit.  If you want PvP... again... go f-ing find it.

We can agree to disagree, or we can bicker constantly... either way, I'm right.

Now that statement really had me laughing, after 8 months I was only just starting to NPC in 0.0 against the 1million ISK+ ships. Now I can hold my own 1vs1 and take out any 0.0 spawn with my PvP setup after a year. Maybe I'm just a slow learner but if I want to find a fight in 0.0 it's not a problem. In EVE I can find a fight anywhere, even in empire if I decided to declare and with the help of kill rights.

0.0 is as boring/interesting as you make (a bit like EVE in general), but for the most part I use 0.0 for NPCing. If I'm hunting miners/carebears/pirates 0.4 can be better unless I have a 0.0 bottleneck to myself

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience"

Well its not too far from the brutal truth but sounds a little jaded.

Its like saying "Well theres nothing to counterstrike but putting your mouse over some pixels and clicking the mouse."

Its "A" truth but its not "THE" truth.

Eh, if the game don't float your boat, dont play.

I rarely have trouble finding a fight in 0.0.  Frankly, I think it just depends on which area of 0.0 you go to.  Right now there's a lot of PvP available during the afternoons and evenings U.S. in Great Wildlands and Scalding Pass, that I can say for certain.  Look for a gate camp of five to twenty ships at either N-RAEL or 7Q- and you won't be disappointed, and that's not even counting the roaming targets.

0.0 is where you go with gangs for fun. You'll find the occasional solo PvP'er in there. So it's usually gank out there unless you have friends with you. It's still loads of fun. For solo PvP, try a corp or alliance that does empire wars.
Eve-online is the best game for PvP. You'll never know what the other player will be fitted like.
