MMOs continue to come out and many of us are happy to see them return. REND is a survival MMO that we cannot wait to play. The game hosts what is best in survival with a three way battle for supremacy on the map. With a twist on bows and crossbows in fantasy this game plays like a shooter, but keeps its fantasy edge. Here are some of the details about REND.

60 people per server isn't an MMO, more like a multiplayer siege game, but certainly not an MMO

I like that Rend takes a lot of the gameplay features of survival games and adds in a large PVE aspect. That is what I feel is missing from most survival games and it's what turns them into Kill On Sight pvp deathmatches. From what I've seen and read from the earlier Alpha tests each faction gets a "safe" zone that they can build and upgrade as well as the ability to go out of the safe zone and build whatever you want. At night the main faction safe zone gets attacked by different monsters so you need to build defenses to your city. Each server will also have an ending where very powerful monsters come and try to destroy the factions.

    This could be pretty cool.

Rend looked really interesting and I couldn't tell before but this article confirmed it, seems there isn't a real melee option unless you find one of the super rare ones that is an 'artifact' weapon. Laaaaame. Won't be playing this.

True, but they did just more than triple the size of the game world so hopefully they work on raising that number.

Looking at the pcgamer article they intend to run servers for a month or two. How exactly do they intend to make a competitive 3-faction PvP game running with such low numbers as 20v20v20 and keep it interesting for a month.

60 players.. lol..  Instant turn off.  Three factions with 20 people per faction is not going to make the game fun.   I bet it runs on the Unreal Engine and a indie team..  They can never seem to really break that 60 player limits without causing major lag and issues.  Ark seems like 60-80 player cap per server, DnL 60-80 player cap.  Yeah Unreal engine 4.14 is what they are using.. Should have figured that. :D  Not that the Unreal engine is bad, visually its really good.  But to make games like this, just doesnt work well when you try to get large number of players in.. Atleast not without using a different networking stack and most indie teams can't figure out how to change it out.

Wait ? Its something like PUBG ? Its time limited matches ?

You get 60 minutes to build your bases and than fight ?

How can this even remotely be MMO or like MMO ?

Did people writing on this site now even completely forgot what MMO is ?

Not sure if this game is this case, but you need someone who creates games (a creative mind) leading a project, not a software engineer and not a businessman. Leave the coding and the monetization to them, but don't let them design the game if that's not their fortay, they will most likely just try to clone their favorite game and it will be a rehashed generic game that we've all played before.
Now Playing: Bless / Summoners War
Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile

It is timed but more like weeks/months before the server life cycle completes. Not sure where you get the 60 minutes from.

This game, like most survival games of late, allows players to build what and where they want. Having hundreds of people on a server like that leads to countless half finished building covering the map and making the game unplayable. Go check out what a 200 population Rust server looks like, it isnt pretty... or fun.

I'm perfectly fine with smaller numbers of players per server in games like this. In fact, i prefer it.

Could just build a bigger map or world?

Bigger map = more people = more buildings. Again, just look at Rust. Server owners can set the size of the map they want and even on the largest it gets completely covered with crappy half built/destroyed bases. Plus im sure there is a budget they need to follow and limited resources.

I've been playing these types of survival/building games pretty much exclusively for a few years now and that aspect of them all is the same. At some point the devs just need to set a world size and population limit, both of those can be adjusted during testing but you wont see huge population numbers unless they do away with the free form building. That's half the fun for me.

The problem with square and unfinished/ruined buildings are a game desing problem. They are build rectangular or being abandoned simply because that was the best thing for the player at the moment. If the most optimal play strategy was to build beautiful cities and not have abandoned ones then players would do just that.

All these people being so negative about a game they haven't played, and will most likely change considerably before launch - just like every game in development these days. You people make gamers look like morons.. just saying.

I assume you gave Ark a negative review, but have over 1k hours logged. Just a wild guess.

And yes, it is an indie team.. but before you starting talking a bunch of sh!t, go look at the credentials of this indie team.
