The voxel art styled MMO action adventure world of Trove just recently got a brand new update in the Eclipse expansion. But the team is already hard at work at improving the player experience even more. I got my first hands-on session with the game while on the at PAX this year.

The game is P2W and with every update that comes out the amount required to "win" gets higher and higher and on top of that they keep nerfing ways to earn in game credits w/o spending money. Even ways to P2W get nerfed as time goes on to the point where you have to spend hundreds/thousands more than you did before to get the same amount.

I've played and loved this game since closed beta but can't make anymore excuses for their greed or lack of development when they have a full-time team working on the game and players creating most of the content.

If you are a 100% ftp player looking for a voxel game w/pve and don't care about reaching end game in a year or just want to dabble in beginner low pr stuff it is good free entertainment.

while I agree it's very VERY hard to progress I don't see it as p2w what I see personally is that you have to earn it, like any other mmo they don't expect you to just get the badass gear they want you to earn it, to work for it yes its hard but at the end of the day doesn't it make it more rewarding to finally get that gear you've been trying to get for months?

Here's a video explaining why the game is P2W.

@DMKano When is the last time I won anything in a game? Never. Thats when. People take P2W and twist it to their liking. This game meets my definition. You know why..cause those things on the shop sure do give you and advantage. I didn't win. Nope. But I been playing games for 30 years and never once I have received my winnings in the mail.

Scythe (the guy who made that video) - never stopped playing and he got #1 rank Gunslinger in US - as of a couple of days - here's his video from yesterday:

Now the video you linked - his conclusion is basically that since Trove removed trading all cash shop items for in game currency - Trove became P2W.

This is the EXACT reason why so many players felt that is actually stopped being P2W because you can't sell cash shop items for currency anymore.

So - yeah - this is what BDO was originally when nothing in the game shop could be sold to other players - that's what Trove did - if you think that's P2W, again how?

Also considering that this is a 100% PvE game.... even if they still allowed cash shop item sales for money.... it wouldn't make any difference to anyone.

Can you spend money in Trove to advance your personal mastery - yes you can, you can buy patron that also helps greatly (I always have patron in Trove) - if you characterize this as P2W - all games are P2W.
We think whatever game you play is P2W, even if those reasons contradict each other.

What does being the #1 Gunslinger have to do with the game being P2W? He didn't remove the video I linked for the game being P2W or mention anywhere that he changed his mind so the point you're trying to make by posting an unrelated video doesn't prove anything.

Also, what you wrote here was just changed into a different way of doing the exact same thing -->"This is the EXACT reason why so many players felt that is actually stopped being P2W because you can't sell cash shop items for currency anymore" They changed it so people can now buy credit packs for store currency from the store to sell for in-game currency. They made store items BOP but added a way to do exactly what was done before but at a higher price because the BOE credit packs give you less for your money than buying the BOP credits. You can buy store currency with in-game currency but with the titan treasure nerf in this last update it is extremely hard/almost impossible for FTP players to get any decent amount of flux in a reasonable amount of time.

If leaderboards didn't exist that give rewards that could be sold for millions+ for having more POWER rank than other players or if there was no way of buying items in the store to re-sell for in-game currency to advance ALL progression in the game except PVP then I'd agree with you that the game isn't P2W. As it is right now if a person spends thousands they can have every advantage over other players + reach endgame almost instantly compared to those who don't spend money and to me that is the definition of P2W.
