Looking for a good pvp game

I was wondering if anyone would know a good pvp based game.

I've been on the look out for one for 2-3 years now with a good mate of mine and everytime we found something we found ourselfs bored rather soon.
Now what i'm looking for is something similar in gameplay as the old 2d runescape or the older 2d form of dransik.

Preferably free but pay to play isnt a real problem.

The games we've tried are on top of my head: Guild wars, EQ 2, Shadowbane, Sage of ryzom, Eve online.
can't remember any more by head.

I hope someone is able to help us.

Regards,

Asentia

Well then get Shadowbane again, Its free and comes with all the expansions. Since its free a ton of people play.. The most are on Braillia and I think its very worth it untill sometimes better comes out.

    Lineage 2

Yeah Lineage2 has the largest organized pvp so far. Could have 1000+ players fight at siege. While 10~100+ at daily open pvp.

If you can stand the grinding part, and level to at least lv 70+ with decent gears, and join an active pvp clan/alliance, then you will get tons of pvp.

Randonly ganking is rare these days and is considered carebear, since all big clans/alliances do not allow random ganking. All pvp are basicly WAR between clans/alliances. Yes you can gank your enemies or being ganked during leveling, it is a part of the war.

OMG just whatever you do dont get drawn into RF online Its got lots of potion spamming PVP and absulutely no PVE (aka boring as hell) Well i guess it could be fun if you really love 1000 player 3 faction PVP battles it just takes LOTS of grinding to get there

You could get GW:Factions where PvP is organised vs random. You can make builds for situations and test them vs others, win rewards and get acclaim not to mention win 100,000$ if you're the best of all.

You should try DAoC, very good and solid pvp (rvr) game and sieges looks much better then in Lineage and much, much less grind

    >Yes they were standing there, BECAUSE they were waiting for the siege golems to take down the castle wall before they can rush into the castle to own the defenders in the face !!! They aren't fighting each other, because they were on the SAME side!!! The enemies were inside the castle !!!

    Got it?

I bet if I post a screenshot of the dead bodies after a battle, you will say "lol wow ~_~ they are just lying on the ground in those pics, looks like fun! ..."....

yeah ok... i've played L2, played on kain until start of c3, 67 SR. Btw showing a pic of seiges from before is kinda dumb considering that the actual player population has dropped in half since then. Don't worry we can just hide that by showing that the farmer population has doubled!

Anways, I reccomend you don't buy this game. If you do I really think you will regret it but ultimately it is your choice.

    >lvl 67 is very low. And the server of Kain sux big time anyway, everyone knows.

btw, I was there since closed beta. And stopped a few times here and there. Right now I am not playing.

What I'd like to say to the people who want to try it out is,

L2 has very good pvp IF you can join a GOOD clan/alliance.

PvE part is stupid just like every other MMO.

Graphics is the best among MMO.

Economy is screwed up big time with ebayers.

Well then again, it is the best PvP game you can find where players actually are well organized in such LARGE number. Also fight with goals.

Well, in DAoC, when you try to take down a gate or wall (with siege engines, like rams or trebuchets, not some strange golems) defenders fight back, using bows, spells and their own siege engines (ballistas, scorpions). There is a lot of action all the time, so this is looking boring for me
  • JaziaJazia Member Posts: 584

You still don't get it.

In Lineage 2, during siege, there are a few different ways to break through the Castle defense.

    1. break down the front gate
    2. break down the side wall.

And yes YOU (players) can try to bash the front gate by themselves. And that will cause TONs of deaths on attacking side, since defenders' archers/nukers will strike you down while you are bashing the gate.

Thus it is a dumb idea to try to rush the front gate again and again while lots of deaths. Sure it is still possible to do it but just not a good idea.

Which is why people perfer to take down the side wall instead.
Players can't do any damage to the castle wall, so it requires siege golems.

BTW, siege golems were made by the dwarf players, they are a part of the players' skills!! Not some "weird" stuff just because you don't know the game.

And yes, players still fight during the bashing of side wall. You just don't see it from that far on those 2 screenshots, doesn't mean it isn't happening. As the matter of fact, in the battle from those 2 screenshots, the first engagement happened before the siege golems started to bashing the gate. One of the attacking alliance wiped out the defenders at the side wall. So during defenders respawned and regroup inside the castle, siege golems took down the side wall and attackers rushed in. After broke down the inner gate, the second engagement took place inside the hall way. This battle just had its background, the defending clan was too bad, thus too many alliances went to attack their castle. Which caused defenders didn't stand a chance. They were quickly wiped out again inside the hallway, then after bashing through a few other gates by players, the final battle took place inside the throne room. Sure defenders all died again.

As the matter of fact, the battle on those 2 screenshots ,the defenders were GREATly outnumbered. Which is why you could only try to defend from inside. In many other cases, defenders can rush out of the castle try to assault on attackers' flags(need flags to respawn for each clan).

I doubt in DAOC you fight 100% the time anyway. There must be "delay" from time to time between fights. So don't bashing at one game that you don't even know.

btw DAOC sux imo and yes I tried it. They also scammed my money from "free" trial.

here is a siege video by player
(pvp in L2 is well organized. See the sign above players' heads...that's clan/alliance tag. No random carebear fight, all planned, organized with goals)

(not even close to one of the best sieges, but decent I guess)

    It's pay to "free" trial.

I was scammed by their "free" trial. Trust me, L2 pvp is the best of all. Those DAOC players don't have any idea what L2 is like. While I played both. L2 is better in every way. (aside the grinding is the same in both)

You don't have to pay for trial, just after registr cancel subscription. Just read when you register. Lineage 2 is asian type mindless grind, I found DAoC much better game, but all depends what type of game you prefer. And from your description od siege, its similar to daoc, just worse, but I am biased :)
Some people will prefer Lineage, some DAoC. Imo DAoC has best pvp system thats why so many people waiting for Warhammer Online from Mythic. big sieges are endgame, so you can't try them in trial, and trial don't have last 2 expansions for DAoC, so it will miss best pve adds. Anyway, all people I know came back from Lineage 2 very fast, telling me that except nice girl avatar graphic and tamable dragons, all things in this game are much worse then in DAoC. And even avatrs looks very similar, when DAoC has a lot of customization options (dyes, guild emblems etc.) Anyway, you just need read boards of both games and decide by yourself (thats to oryginal poster).
  • JaziaJazia Member Posts: 584

That's because your DAOC buddies never even experienced the endgame in L2.

Did you watch the siege video I posted?

btw, you were complainting about L2 grinding, lol...DAOC is the same! The first "quest" I did was "go kill some skeletons and bring me 2 arm bones"...when I went to look for them, those skeletons were just everywhere outside town about only 50 meters away from the quest npc walking around like idiots with super fast respawn rate....

    I don't see any difference.

DAOC is a grinding on pve part too.

As for siege, you can't experience it without going to high level, or being in a good alliance. Invidivuals have NO business in siege nor open pvp these days. You have to be in one active clan/alliance in order to feel the endgame, yet nobody would accept you if you are like...lvl 20? These days lvl 60s are lowbies.

  • YarosYaros Member Posts: 280
Hmm, you tell me that lvl 60 is lowbie in L2 and call DAoC grind? With new expansions, Catacombs and DR, there is a lot of nice quests and you can level to 50 (max level) in like 2-4 weeks, depend on your time. With powerleveling from guild you can get max level in 3 days. And you can level in rvr, there are battlegrounds (every 5 levels, for 1-4, 5-10, 11-14 etc till 44), so you can also get exp from rvr. Many people like battlegrounds so much, that they turn exp off to stay there longer. But to be honest, on my cluster I see activity only on 20-24, 35-39 and 40-44 battlegrounds. As I know, L2 is open pvp, so you can be ganked when leveling, which I don't like (but if you like it, DAoC has also open pvp servers). I don't play L2, so don't have personal experience, but people from my server who tried it, told me that it was grind game compared to DAoC. Everyone has their own opinions, some people will like more games like L2, some more like DAoC (and incoming Warhammer Online from DAoC makers).
