Interesting turnout in the ratings.

I logged on here today only to find Auto Assault sitting in the lofty 1st position on the rankings.  Now, I just picked up this game today and have barely had enough time to install it, but it certainly makes me think I must have made the right decision.  It's also interesting when you go on and read the comments posted by the members here.  There are many of them that say things like, "a good game", "a great pick-up game", and "lots of action".  These all seem to make sense and seem as if they would be valid descriptions.  However these commentaries are intermingled with those that say, "this game suxxors", "no way dood", and "it ain't good".

Today leaves me wondering:

Where will this game end up in the ratings?

Does this mean the game should be relatively free of the WoW crowd? (fingers crossed)

Maybe the hype will bring much-needed attention to the poorly advertised title...

Typically the one's who say it is teh suck are those who scoff at the fact that it is an MMO without elves or orcs and will not even give it a chance. If they really gave the game a shot and spent a good half hour with it, I guarantee they will have some fun with it.

As I said in my review, the game has Pros and Cons.  It certainly doesn't "suck", but it also won't be everyone's cup of tea, either.  I think it's "okay" ... the mission style doesn't float my boat and the lack of a death penalty makes it feel very arcade to me.  But of course other people like that ... different people like different things in a game.

As for the ratings issue .... the ratings on this site are generally pretty unreflective of the true popularity of a game .  I mean EVE has topped the ratings for much of the time (and my guess is that it will return there), and I love EVE and have played it for years now, and I think it's wonderful, but in reality with 100k subs it's a small game, and so the rating here of being "number one game" really doesn't reflect how popular a game it is, in fact.  In reality, I think it reflects more how fanatical the following a game has more than anything else, and I suspect that the new fans of AA are pretty fanatical in their support of the game, which reflects in that rating.

I'm pretty rabid about the game... and so are a lot of the other players I talk to online.  It's a REALLY fun game and I feel like I need to help get the word out on it because otherwise it might not be around long enough for me to fully enjoy it.

It occured to me today that the game is kinda like the tv shows Firefly or The Tick:  really, really awesome, but so niche that it may not find the audience to sustain it's costs.

I think it'll end up doing well. I kinda see it as the anti-EVE Online. Basically all the oppisite game design decisions. So the casual and weekend gamers who can't stand EVE will eat this up, where as the hardcore PvP kiddies will be bored.

Well most of the people ive met in game were from coh or cov so far... They seem like decent folk. We tried to enter the tournament but sadly there was no one to oppose us. Not because there werent enough people on line per say but no one bothered signing up for the tourney cause they had no idea how... I tried a 1 vs 1 deathmatch pvp and it was merely ok. Though i do think it would be much cooler with the larger teams. ie 4vs4 or higher.

I played the beta for this game - to tell you the truth, i played the game for 12 hours, by the time I couldnt stand it any more - and never logged into the game since.

I didnt like how the quests just point you to were you need to go -- with out any reason to explore - game feels like an archade game with lack of depth and immersiveness -- should have been made for xbox and playstation - reminds me of heavy metal with lots of people.

Decent game for the archade players but not what I look for in an mmorpg.

Play this game - and when Conflict Omega is released then come over and see what a real post apoc cyberpunk mmorpg is really supposed to be ~_^

    Enjoy!

Sorry for anyone who played in beta, but retail usually is better. This game rocks and rolls, it's just so dang fun! This game snuck up on me big time, I didn't even think I'd like it but just wanted to be fair to it since I think it's a great idea. And guess what? Blew my socks off! If you want a casual friendly game, this beats WoW any day and I don't have to look at any friggin night elfs.

Also, couple of things:  I think this game appeals to the PvE AND PvP crowd alike once you get into it.  There's a lot of fun pvp to be had here... tournaments, arena duels, and contested areas.  And the arena matches are fun as hell - they actually have built in death traps... how cool is that??

And to the poster who played the beta and quit after 12 hours - I did the same thing but came back and tried it again recently and thought it was amazing.  I'm hooked now.  Also, if you don't like mission markers, you CAN turn them off.

I wouldn't go that far, a lot of the negativity comes from players into games like EVE.  One person called EVE the antithesis of Auto Assault, and that's pretty accurate.  They are opposites in almost every way.

I think people have various reasons for not liking it, but the main thing is that lots of negativity is based on misunderstanding about the game, by people who haven't even given it enough of a chance to realize it's not like a console game at all.  Bad marketting decisions haven't helped its image.

It's a MMORPG to its core, even if not the "sandbox" type that EVE is.  And then some of the other bad ratings come from players hoping that it would be more like a console game, like a Twisted Metal / Planetside hybrid, and it's really not at all.  People who say that it is have no clue what they're talking about.

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

Hehe.  The people who play EVE are mostly not "hardcore PvP kiddies".  Hardcore PvP, of course ... EVE is a PvP game.  But not kiddies.  There are surprisingly few kiddies in EVE actually.

I agree with the last post, however.  EVE and AA are really almost polar opposites in game design and they're going to appeal to gamers who have vastly different opinions about what's good about a game.  As a long-time EVE player, I can see why some people will find AA attractive, and I could enjoy it as a diversion every now and then, but it just really doesn't have the kinds of things that can keep me glued to a game for a long time like EVE does.  It's too light and consequence free ... no intrigue, no politics, no diplomacy, no scheming ... not enough depth for me to really sink my teeth into it in a serious way.

I think this is funny because I love both games. But it's accurate too. In AA you just jump in your car and go blast things, take the ramps and generally drive around and have high speed fun (I think its a lot like GTA that way). Eve certianly has a learning curve the shape of the matterhorn. AA has a nice gradual one.

I do think AA has some depth that's easy to miss if you aren't looking. It doesn't have complication for the sake of it, but it's got a crafting system that is very unique. I think once they add an Auction/Player vendor type function it will bring a lot more depth to the game.
