Shroud of the Avatar News - The Shroud of the Avatar site has been updated with a lengthy post by Executive Producer Starr Long that details what players can expect throughout the balance of 2017. Most notably, there will be three new release clients, each with its own particular focus. While no Steam EA release date is specified, Long wrote, "While we feel we are definitely getting closer to launch readiness each month, we do not believe that launching before the end of the year is going to be the right thing."

You completely ignore that they were pushing for release this year and said so multiple times and even had this line in the SeedInvest Q&A section: While the game is already operating and we have 5K-15K monthly players, we will officially release the game second half of 2017 and we are raising to fund marketing and monthly dev updates around launch.
But now they completely ignore what they said they would do and also you will notice NOTHING about the offline mode.

Launch has been promised every year since KS.
- October 2014
- mid-year 2015
- near the end of the year 2016
- second half of 2017
Those launch dates are taken from quotes made by Darkstarr or Lord British
You should know by now that mmorpg.com is paid to fluff, not critique. Every once in a while they throw out criticism at a dead or dying game just so they can say they did. But 95% of their articles are puff pieces.
Interesting you mention D:OS 2. That was the first EA game in a LONG time that I'm glad I backed. By comparison, SotA was one of the worst EA decisions I've made, even if was only like 50 bucks. At this point, I couldn't care less if it releases or not. They lost me a long time ago. I have absolutely zero confidence that they can turn that game into anything I'd want to play. Lesson learned I guess.
The fucking game has been listed on Steam as EA for at least two years. WTF
I'm sure they have some creative wording to weasel out of it though.
Portalarium could cobble together their own thesaurus based on the number of words they redefine to defend their lies.
And Starr Long is their liar king.

Why not have put all that time on add-on store items and created a month long Halloween event in game and actually give people a reason to log in and play? They are so into this new 'whales will fund us and keep us afloat' mentality that has been going around the last few years, that they are in danger of going under. In order to make a game work under the 'whale philosophy', it has to be a good game that people want to actually play. In SotAs case RMT makes people use the game as a platform to make a few extra dollars here and there and they defend the game til they are blue in the face because they need new blood in the game so they can sell them virtual goods. Portalarium does not curb this behavior because it's those that are RMT'ing items that are buying the items from them in the first place.
One of the dev team actually wrote a book on how to make money off whales. This is Portalarium's whole philosophy from the start. Absolutely no passion for making games, only passion for the dollar and how to get as much as possible before the well runs dry.
It would be so easy to turn this game around and it wouldn't even take that much time to do it. The hardest would be the game itself and they'd have to be willing to do that. Just the outward appearance of how Portalarium does business turns many players off before they can ever play the game itself. They are too afraid of cutting the cord of the whales which ultimately would get them new whales and many more other players willing to drop a few bucks here and there.
But, this game is pretty fun. There is only one item in the RMT store worth buying and that is the increase in bank slots for $5.
I have no desire to have a house in a game. All the house stuff I got for whatever reason through claim I sold. I do not understand houses, house decoration, or playing dress up. That nonsense is not fun to me. That is their RMT store - stupid superficial crap that does nothing but something superficial.
I can only speak on actual gameplay and not the dress up superficial aspects and to me they are decent. Combat is decent, character development is decent, the quests are not the usual stuff, the difficulty level is good, the itemization is okay for the crap rpg-lite three stat system.
I very much like that people are finally viewing this hack Richard Garrot correctly, but this is hands-down his best and most playable game with the best rpg systems. Not great rpg systems, but better than anything else he has done.
If you go into this game to have some fun playing an rpg-lite game that offers some fun to be had and some unique systems you probably will have fun. If you like playing dress up and Barbie house decorator you are weird and I can offer no advice to you on if the game is good or not in this way.
But I thank everyone for finally seeing the truth about this shithead developer.
