If you balk at paying to play a game early, it's probably not meant for you.
Preordering a game in final phase is a safe purchase. Just because some people aren't comfortable with throwing down their hard earned cash to support what essentially boils down to, currently, nothing more than hopes and dreams is being frugal... realistic... pragmatic?
It doesn't mean that it isn't the game for them. It could be the perfect game for them, but they are unwilling to prepay for a maybe. Kickstarters in general have a pretty bad track record for finishing their development cycle, so I don't blame them for wanting to wait for a finished product.

I didn't say the game wasn't meant for them altogether. Only the expensive early access. The steep alpha pricing is generally to filter people out and get the most passionate fans in to help test rather than treat it as early access.

Is there actually even a game to play? If someone puts down the $155 for alpha when can they play?
All I'm seeing is a cash shop. I balk at that. Kinda putting the cart before the horse, where is the actual game?
Did they even finish the graphic MUD yet?
I look at alpha access and it says...
"Alpha 1 Access - $155
Start testing CoE 18+ months before Exposition. Gain full Alpha and Beta access to our UE4 client and VoxElyria and help us shape and iterate on core features from the very beginning. Limit 1."
When the hell is exposition? Nowhere to be found on the site linked.
I sorta like the simplicity of WoW's $15 a month full access, expansion purchase every couple years model. But, hey...I'm old-fashioned, I guess. * shrugs *
Didn'y you say at some point that maybe they are not targeting "old geezers" like ourselves?
Back on topic I always thought it was silly the need to have to join an exsisting family or be a ward of the state but now I see why they went that route...they wanted to sell us the right to have a surname in game ...lol
Only 25$ to have a last name.....lolz
Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.

I go to the FAQ on the site and it says...

Not in 2015. Beyond that, it's too soon to tell.
I don't see this ending well.
