A new FFXII Player, I guess?

ZephrithZephrith Member Posts: 122

Well, I had just gotten FFXII two months ago.

I got that Vana'diel Collection, and I was so exicted to check it out.

Unluckily, I did not have a DVD-ROM, and quit. I never got to play it.

But now, two months later, I am getting a DVD-ROM, and hoping to play this game.

Just wanted to say Hi to all the FFXII players out there.

I have two questions:

What is your favorite part about this game

AND

Some feedback about the games strong points and weak points.

Thanks,

Zephrith

    EDIT: Double post again...

Some Mod please delete the other one?

    EDIT: EDIT:

While I'm pissed, I have another question.

My brother wants to play too.

I know the character lets you do anything, but he would rather play it on a different account. We don't like to be the same race.

So, is it worth the $1? And do you have to pay for it in the monthly fee every month? Or just a one time fee (If it's one time, I'm going to pay for it even if you say no. :) )

Each additional character *on the same account* costs an addition $1 a month for as long you keep the Content ID active, which is required to play the character. I find it quite cheap and actually run four additional characters in order to play different races and nationalities, and also to get some additional storage space.

This not "a different account". It is a new character accessed by the same User ID and password as your first one. (when you log on to PlayOnline and start FFXI, you are given the list of your active characters to choose from and log on with). A different account means buying another copy of the game and paying the $12.95/mo fee. Just so you know the score, I will mention that sharing a single account among multiple people is explicitly against the Terms of Service.

And it is also against the rules for people to have the same account, but different characters? And does it apply to the same people in the household?

    Favourite Part:
Character customization. This for me is the one big Bonus the game has over all others. I don't have to make a new character to play a Bard, Thief, Warrior, Summoner, etc.
I can be all those jobs and can even mix and match them with the Job/Subjob system. All on one single character that all the my friends know.
I also like the graphics and the immersion in this game, Vana'diel is a world that i can influence with my actions. My actions are reflected in the weekly Campaign status and that will change what merchants sell in the cities.

    Strong Points:
Rock Solid! This game has great uptime, no annoying bugs or broken missions/quest, no broken or stupid crafts. eg. in EQ2 you craft the same things for 10 levels and no matter what drink you make it does the exact same thing (some vary in the time they are active but 80% are the same time and effect). All crafts in FFXI are unique.
No twitchy combat. Combat in FFXI is real time but really strategic and challangeing.
Immersion, the Story, the World, it all makes sense and in the traditional Final Fantasy Style it has great Plots and Cutscenes. There are almost no, 'kill 10 rabbits for 10 hides, 10 spiders for legs, 10 x for y' Quests. 90% of the Quests have a real story and rewards and are unique. There are a few starter quests where you have to collect x items but those are the minority.
Alot of things to do while looking for a party, be it crafting, questing, farming, harvesting, mining, leveling your NPC or cleaning your Moghouse.
Quality of content and expansions. The history of expansions and new Content is Long and very impresive. These are not just simple new area expansions. They are almost as big as the original game was. Square Enix really puts time and effort into every update and it has written Quality all over it.

    Weak Points:
VERY challangeing. This game is tough, REALLY tough. You will never be the Uber character that can just run around and kill everything. At higher levels even monsters 10+ levels below you can be a problem depending on your job. If you get ganged by a group of them you better pray.
This game takes time, alot of it. There is no way to rush and grouping is required as early as level 10-12.  It's good and bad, looking for a group can be tiresome but then again, no one keeps you from doing something else while you have your LFG flag up.
In general, it takes alot of effort to get anything done, this is not necessarily a bad thing since you really feel you accomplished something and the rewards are plenty. It's just that you have to prepared that nothing comes easy in FFXI

Overall i would say that it is one of the TOP MMORPGs out there and gets 9.5/10 from me. Square Enix just know what they are doing. And with the Expansion coming up that has as much content as a new MMORPG you will be busy for a long time even exploring everything that is there.

If you end up on Pandemonium Server, give me a shout (skyrant).
