My copy of Auto Assault is in the mail as we speak and I was just wondering what is your favorite class and why? I am trying the get a good idea of the different play styles of the different classes so I can make a disission on which I would like to play.

As for race, I would strongly recommend anything but human for two reasons. First, there are way too many humans. People pick that because they're the de facto choice in most games. Humans make up 50% of the population and biomeks and mutants split the other 50%. So don't contribute to that disparity. Second, and more important for selfish reasons, the other two factions have MUCH better missions, storylines, and environments. It's as if they did Humans last and ran out of steam. For instance, the mutant cities have wandering guards and other NPCs that the human cities don't. Makes them feel more alive. The missions are better written and the environments more interactive in the other areas - environmental hazards, interactive environments, etc. To put the depth of the factions in terms of DAoC, humans would be Hibernia and Mutants would be Albion.
As for profession, I have a stealth character, who is fun as hell, but recently made a champion (warrior type of character) and he's fun too. Different styles of play, but both fun as all get out. My champion is so far undefeated in the arena against opponents of similar level, if that's any indication. (Although all my matches have been really, really tight - with me only barely eeking out the win...) I think I'm leaning toward my champion as my main character. I have also played a pet class (Leutinant) and didn't care for that. A healer class seems kind of pointless right now because of the lack of sufficient group functions to make convoys desireable. That should change in the future, but right now, I'd avoid support classes.
Shamans (Mutant healer class) pizzown the end-game PvP though. You WILL know Jared's Curse by the time you get there, either from having it, or having it used against you. It's the nastiest nuke in the game, and only Shaman can get it. Plus their heals are the best of all healer classes, and they also get the best healing pet in the game. IMO they are the strongest class in the game at 80, due to heals + Jared's curse, and virtually unstoppable 1 on 1 unless the nerf bat decides to pay a visit.
Anyone else wanna throw in their opinion regarding Class preference?
In order of how I like 'em:
1. Lieutenant/Archon/Master Mind
2. Commando/Champion/Terminator
3. Bounty Hunter/Avenger/Agent
4. Engineer/Shaman/Constructor
Ok, my play style is largely solo, I don't like to die (wreck), I'm kinda a chicken and I *like* easy. I realize some folks playing games like a lot of challenge, as in it's hard to play, I do not.
The first group is great because they are a "pet class" if I may use typical terms. Basically you are not fighting alone and can end up with whole little armies depending on how you spend skill points. They do tons of damage, tho unlike other games, you will still gets lots of agro and take a lot of damage too, so defense is definitely a factor. The cars they get are very fast and extremely maneuverable. My favorite vehicles in the game.
The 2nd group are fighters and tho deep in the thick of it and alone, are darn near indestructible. AA has an interface that allows you to tweak power into speed, defense and offense as you wish. I can keep my fighters on the speed/offense combo almost all the time, and tho this means I take a hit to defense doesn't seem to matter. The vehicles are a lot more clunky than the first group, big and heavy. They hit really well but the mobs are good at staying out of your way so you don't get to ram that often.
The third group is tricky. Your vehicle is incredibly fast, if a little squirrelly, and you'll need it. They are very fragile, but you have stealth which makes things really easy sometimes, like when you need to sneak into a camp to deploy a device, etc., when other classes would need to take out the camp. It also will save your life because even if you are being fired upon you can stealth and the mobs won't find you. This is definitely a more strategic class group. Also because of the need to zip in, do big damage, get away I'd say you kill less mobs overall and as such get less loot. However seems to be a high rate of drops specifically for this class.
I would like the last group better than the 3rd was it not for the vehicles which I liken to trying to drive lead lined toasters. Slow and terrible maneuverability. I am reminded of Paladins in WoW: they take a long time to kill things but if you've spent skill points a certain way are very hard to kill. For someone who like to group a lot this would likely be a good class as they are the "healers" and have lots of skills that benefit others.
The different races have definite strengths and weaknesses and these things do have baring on the classes, but all I said above still pretty much applies regardless of race. A rule thumb re: races is Humans are easiest, at least to start, have not played past 20, Biomeks are in the middle with a very interesting (busy!) 2nd area, and Mutants, tho I dearly love the vibe of these guys and they have really cool lore and such, seem to be bringing of the rear.
Personally I like variety and have made one of each class in each race, so I'll be gathering information for some time. Fun!
But basically I want to add that there's been no class/race I've chosen that hasn't been fun, just shades of woohoo if you will. Great stuff, enjoy yourself!
I predominantly play human, adn I gotta say my favorite classes are the bounty hunter and lieutenant.
The bounty hunter, of course has stealth, and has some very powerful directed damage special attacks.
The Lieutenant, I first created on during beta and man it's pets are simply UBER. Those pets can really tear up enemy infantry and vechicles, and carry larger weapons.
