im wondering if this is true. have WoW success of not allowing alot of grind being copied by other companies on their games? does more grind make a game better or is it the content availiable?
im just wondering what you all think.

are these? Why collect the garbage? The world is static, it doesn't
change and your actions don't affect it any way.

OH MY GOD!!! ITS ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hi me!
I know what grind is. from what i know of WoW is you only spend 3 weeks leveling from 1-60. some games are alot worse. it took me three months to get to lvl 50 in eq2.
i was posting a question, which you didnt answer.

I think that grinding ALONE is much better than "Quest Grindage"
what's the difference between the 2? here goes...
Grinding: it's where you kill mobs repeatedly to level up or gain items and reach the max level, it is also the method you take to accomplish anything related to gaining points in any form, honor points, realm points, ladder points, basically, grinding is the thing you do anywhere, even in your RL, you grind work to recieve your salary at the end of the month.
the worse kind of grinding is the Quest Grinding: it is what WoW did to remove the feel of grinding while gaining the previously told points, but instead of doing it in one place, quest grinding offers you to go around the world to do the same thing you can do while staying in one spot for a while and changing after some lvls.
Instancing, i don't mind instancing as long as they're not in PVP Zones, or put a restrictions to them, where you can't enter an instance if you've engaged your enemy in combat ( through retaliation ).
DAoC is a very good example of everythign, they have quests, they have normal grinding, they have good named mobs who drop good loot, the only thing that ruined the game was the introduction of TOA, the expansion that ruined the whole game play aspect in RVR.
WoW is a delusion, it combines the best aspects of some games, mixed with racial imbalances, and then nicely polished but badly maintained.
EVE is by far the the better game out there, except that it doesn't have the feel of an avatar, where you are just a portrait, and fly as a ship, also the movement and combat isn't likely to hold everyone who plays it, it has many different kinds of grinding, missions, 0.0 rat hunting, bounty hunting, trading, manufacturing, mining, courier missions, and contracting, it is a slow paced game, which also alot of people don't like, but it offers alot of things many games can't offer.
so in conclusion, grinding will always exist, it has many forms, don't think that by doing some quests you are avoiding the grind, you're only deluding yourself, because what you are doing is Quest Grinding, the worst type of grinds.
Grinding will never cease, it exists within yourself, even in RL, pressing all of these buttons is also grinding.
In some mmorps, I find the grind to be enjoyable. RF Online has very little content, but I like to grind PTs and watch my characters stats improve, because it really makes a different when I get to the exciting PvP chip wars.
I think it is the constant exp gain from hitting a mob that does this. I can see results right away, and I am shaping my character as I beat up on mobs all night. In Lineage II, the grind was not tolerable to me. I did the same exact thing as I am doing in RF Online, but I had very little to show for it, except when I got to a milestone level and could change my class, or when I earned enough points to buy a new spell or skill.
In World of Warcraft, I don't find it a grind. I think this is because I am a roleplayer that gets into the story and background of the game. I also like to group and socialize. When collecting items over and over for quests, it can be much more fun with you are with other players, and when you give it extra purpose by roleplaying. I can see why these quests can be a grind to some, however. I guess it's all how you look at it.
I found WoW to be very grindsome.
It was nice that they had a lot of quests but they were pretty much all grinding quests.
I really did notice the grind in WoW. Especially at high level. I've played 10 or so MMo's and it was the most noticeable of all of them.
The nearest competition for me was Matrix Online which was also a grinder, but at least it only took 8 days of grinding to level cap.
I have always thought that if I am ever going to level another character in WoW, I will buy a level bot program.
OMG grinding sucks..... deffinetely quests are the way to go (even if they do just tell you to kill different stuff) because they keep you from being forced to kill 1000s of the same thing and not feeling like you are actually completeing anything.
LETS HOPE GRINDING IS DYING OUT i really dont see how anyone can enjoy it
