Tried LOTRO? Older game but still beautiful, just enough mix of old school and modern amenities. Free to try and play, for the most part.
It got very boring after a while though, its just going from quest to quest and its all very generic. Think the only reason i enjoyed it somewhat really was because it was in middle earth.
It is. It is not like there is a lack of good games to play. I find it silly, for me, to stick to any one game.
Heck, i don't even stick to a single player game before i finish it. I have so many games on steam, origin access and battlenet that i just play whatever i please at the moment. Anything else is suboptimal and too much work.
Well for singel player games yes i would go from game to game as well as there is really no real reason to keep playing a singel player game after you beat it. One could argue you can even skip a portion of it and just watch the conclusion on youtube lol. My interest for singel player games died a long time ago though, now when there is a good one i just watch one of those cinematic full movie type videos of it and thats my single player game xD As the only real reason a singel player game would interest me now is if the story is really really good. For my mmorpg though i would prefer to have that one game. Most mmorpgs require you to put in some time and doing that over several games is a bad idea i dont think any of us really have that much time on our hands.
Elder Scrolls Online - Enjoyed it allot once upon a time. I recently came back to it and it has sort of lost its charm. I rolled a new character and to my disappointment they have messed up the flow of the game. The game has turned the compelling story into a speed run. The main story quests used to come to you every few levels and it made for a nice mixture of doing the main story and doing side quests and other stuff. Now you can actually just run through the main story quests back to back. The main problem with this is that they didnt bother to alter the main story dialogue to fit the flow of the game. Example is when the prophet tells you he is going to need some time to think (this is because its the same dialogue from when the main story used to come to you every few levels) and then instantly appears to you again when you leave his hideout. It doesnt make sense. I considered myself a new player since i had not played for a long time and as a new player its very distracting and confusing. Very very bad design choice they did there. So much so that it has soured the game for me.
I don't disagree but it can still be played the old way. The difference is that now you have to have some discipline to do it that way.
The game still makes the most sense if you follow the original single alliance zone order with the main quest line as well as the fighter's and mage's guild's quest lines interspersed every few levels with the whole thing coming together in Coldharbour.
I like a lot of the new things that came with One Tamriel a year ago: I like the large quantity and variety of 5-piece armor/weapon/jewelry sets that they added (3 unique ones for each zone and each dungeon) as well as level scaling since I've never enjoyed over-leveling a zone that fits into the narrative order.
But you're right. For new players it's confusing and disjointed to jump around to random legacy or DLC zones and shoot through the main quest line.

Also, not to be a bastard but:

those are the correct way to spell those words. Sorry, pet peeve of mine.
I tried Conan Exiles at a friends house and its fine to mess around in but its not really a game you can play for a longer period of time. Its just one of those jump in murder some people and leave it type of things. Like most games like it. Thats the only way i played Rust anyway lol.
WoW doesnt cut it for me, it does what it does well but it doesnt do enough things. Its very simple and ultimately couldnt hold my interest for longer than a few days. A friend of mine plays WoW and i have played on his high level account a few times in the past as he was trying to get me on board but i just found myself bored af and only doing it half the time to not hurt his feelings or something xD
I tend to write really fast and misspelling does happen a lot. Also i think i have misspelled some words so much that my fingers are more likly to misspell it than they are to spell it correctly xD And no worries, sorry if it was hard to read or anything.

My son does watch single player game ending on youtube. Personally i dont bother. I don't play games for the writing or stories. And i don't need to finish a game.
Actually most MMORPGs are f2p and they "require" anything. I don't see what is the problem if I play warframe for 20 min, then TOR for another 20 min. As long as I don't expect to finish a game, i am fine.
Heck, a lot of them (the last two i tried are TSW and Devilian) are fun only for a while. So i milk my fun and leave. I don't see any "requirement" to stick around or to spend a lot of time.

Well you are not wrong i guess, i could play it the same way as i did before. I think you and most people would say that it shouldnt bother me so much but it does. ESO probably has the best story out of any mmorpg i have played before. I still log on to get some research going but i dont have enthusiasm that i had before. The main story was one of the main things that kept me going and now that i can just run through it and ignore everything else made the whole thing kind of whatever. And to think that new players coming in are going to have this nonsense really pains me.
As for other changes i cant really comment as i dont know, the messed up flow was enough to break it for me. Its just me though if you still like the game im super happy for you and i wish i could just ignore this little issue i have with it.
I think you need to take a break, recharge your MMORPG batteries. Come back once refreshed and keen on a MMORPG once more.
Why? is there a reason why people have to go back to MMORPG? He can just leave, right?

So some of you are telling me to take a break from mmorpgs and while it might work (probably not knowing myself) its not the problem, the avaliable mmorpgs are just not what im looking for.
Really all im looking for is a well populated Archeage with a developer thats not going to ruin it, make smart decisions and not treat their players like poop. I dont think thats to much to ask for xD Also people need to stop playing WoW, bunch of bloody nostalgia chasers haha jk! But really WoW has allot of players still and i kinda wish those people would break free and make themselves avaliable to other games. I think many games dont take risks because games like WoW have such devoted fans of that one game. Could totally be wrong i admit but i feel like there is some truth to it.

It is fair game to tell him that his original goal is not that great, and there are better (in my OPINION, of course) alternatives, right?
But really WoW has allot of players still and i kinda wish those people would break free and make themselves avaliable to other games.
You can wish. Other players have obligation to do what you wish.
May be it is better and easier to choose entertainment not dependent on others.
Example .. i just treat other players as NPCs and i can quit a group whenever i like for whatever reasons. I totally expect others to do the same. It is a lot of fun for me, with zero inconvenience (like if my wife needs something, i can always quit .. it is not like i will run out of people to PUG).

Stop "chuming" Nari.
As he recharges his batteries doing other things is the idea, that gets you fresh again to play a MMO. I have done this about three times, taking off about 3 months to a year. Each time the recharge period is longer, but I would put that down to the state of MMOs today as much as to me.

They didn't mess up the flow. You're messing up the flow for you by doing the main story quests as soon as they are presented. If you don't like it that way, stop doing it that way.
The main story flows at the pace you choose. You are free to put it on hold until you feel like advancing it and do whatever else you want over the entire world in the meantime.
New players will have that same "nonsense" of self-directed pace as well, assuming they bothered to learn anything about the game before deciding to jump in.
This element of the game is something you have total control over. The little issue you can't ignore is a matter of self-inflicted injury.
I actually tried LOTRO the other day and i had some fun with it, got very repetitive after a while and the combat system is clunky at best but had a few hours of fun in there xD
Yep, that can't be helped really, LotRO is a questing game mostly. There are some tries to alter the formula - running around the Shire, playing as a chicken, later there are auto-bestowed quests and dynamic quest givers (so no need for running to take and give in quests), etc. - but the core of the game is still questing.
If you don't want the questing, there are two other ways: You can level through crafting - very (and I mean VERY) slow route. And you can also level through skirmishes - very fast, but can get boring also very fast. (instanced solo or group encounters)
Clunky combat, can't help on that either, not an action game It's within the usual tab-target and gcd. Warden has a unique combat system though, but you can't give it a whirl on a free account, so... catch-22.
How about something a bit indie and off the chain like Life is Feudal MMO, in beta and just about to launch I think?
waiting for this one myself. Delayed a bit until Jan 18. At least on steam.
I have it, played it a bit like a week ago or so and honestly its LiF:YO. The same game. They sort of have this weird attempt at quests but they do absolutely nothing for you. Best way to play is the exact way you played LiF:YO, just find a spot and get to terraforming. Steam release will give it a little push but the game will empty real quick no question about it.

No, but I think you are wrong in saying this shows he needs to give up MMOs. A change is as good as a rest, if he does need a break he may well come back.
