I played some of the beta.  Voice comm is not supported, at least it wasn't at the time I was playing.  A USB keyboard is recommended, I don't know about a mouse.  The controller worked well, though.  An active subscription to Xbox Live is required, as well as a subscription to PlayOnline, for a PlayOnline ID, which includes the FFXI monthly fee.

In my opinion, the PC version  and the 360 version are exactly the same.  It is a matter of preference.  Do you like controls with a mouse and keyboard, or with a console controller?  If the game supported voice comm, I would recommend the 360 version for sure, because this game is group intensive, and you'll need to do a lot of communication while playing.

You don't need a mouse, but you will find it very rough going without a keyboard. You may be willing to chat via mic, but voice chat is quite rare in FFXI. Since you'll be using Xbox chat and not a PC-based chat client, you'll find you can only voice chat only with other people on Xbox, who will be a distinct minority. People on PS2s (and yes, there are still quite a number) can't voice chat at all. You need the keyboard for chat.

As far as which Xbox live you need, you only need silver (the one that's free).

Takes just as long, if not longer on a pc.  I won't reccomend playing it on a console...  I heard nothing but complaints when it came to PS2.

I just bought this game during my lunch break.  I will install it tonight on my Xbox 360.  From what I read it will take a long time to install; I'll start early!  I am eager to finally try this game, I have heard so much about it, good and bad.  And since it comes with the 3 expansion packs, I think it's a good deal.

actually i watched on G4TV couple weeks ago that if you own the full blown xbox360 system ($499) you get xbox live silver for free, all you do is just pay for the FFXI subscription

Everyone who owns an XBox 360 has access to XBox Live Silver!  The XBox Live Silver grants you access to those services:

So you're all set to go!

I am in the process of installing the game on my XBox 360 and the previous guy wasn't kidding when he said 3 hours!  I'm at the point now where it is downloading the patches for FFXI, I hope it's the last step.  I'd like to play a little tonight!  :)

Did you try a search of your error message at www.playonline.com?  But when it comes down to an actual error message, you're better off calling or have a web chat session with a PlayOnline representative!  Seriously!
