An Honest WoW question

Talon54Talon54 Member Posts: 32

I just want to pose a couple of simple and direct questions to the WoW players to feed my own curiousity.

1.  What is the biggest reason why you play WoW over any other MMO?

2.  Do the Queue Lines you have to wait in to PvP or log in bother you?

3.  Do you really think Blizzard spends a good part of 50 million + a month they collect in sub fees on improvements to the game, or the CS team, and if so how much more free content do you recieve over any other MMO?

Not looking to start a flame war with this, i am genuinely curious.

    1. I have fun playing it.
    2. Yes.
    3. No. They do add more free content than any other MMO I've ever seen. The new BG's and instances would have easily been two expansion packs for SOE.

    so...

Sure you are, uh huh ...

To answer your stupid questions, people play it because they like it.  If queues (which I rarely encounter) bothered anyone too much, they'd stop playing.  As far as the money Blizz makes, I don't give a crap if they all buy themselves Ferraris.  If the game is fun, it's fun ... end of story.

Oh wait, your insightful questions have made me see the light.  Maybe it would be more enjoyable to play a game that I don't like but which never has queues and where all the devs drive Chevies so that every penny can go back into providing more crappy content.

    1. The PvE is very casual friendly, and you can solo when you don't feel like grouping.

    2. The wait to get on the server is completely rediculous.  As for the BGs I didn't care much because I don't like to PvP much.

    3. I personally don't think they have done enough with the game compared to the subscription income they are getting.  They have made several improvements to the game, but they should have been giving more.  My opinion is that they should have had an expansion by now, and it should have been free to subscribers.  I may get flamed for that, but I feel Blizzard owes a lot to the WoW community.  Then again, I have high standards for my subscriptions.

Wickes, don't be a complete and total jerk.  The guy has questions about WoW and he can ask whatever he likes.  There's no reason for you to bring your fanboy attitude into things, so quit being a prick.

    1. Because it's still fun, even after maxing your char, because it's an exciting experience to adventure in the fabled world of Azeroth I have followed from the first Warcraft and story books etc.

    2. No, they don't, because there are plenty other things to do, not only to PvP.

    3. No, they don't, of course, every major updates are fun, but more of these money should be spent increasing server performance, hiring more proffesional staff and so on.

    1. The biggest reason I play is because I enjoy it more than any other MMO Ive tried within the last 3 years. (SWG, COH, EQ2,MXO,GW)  Plus all my friends play which also keeps me playing.

    2. Honestly the queue lines for BG at lvl 60 are not long at all.  At least on Eldre Thalas server. Especially during double honor weekends.

    3. WoW has more content than any other game Ive played so far and most definitely the best customer service I have seen with fast response times.

Im not sure why people feel the need to constantly trash WoW on these forums.  Only game that gets beat down more is SWG.

    1) For the most part its bug free, more so than a lot of MMO's. Also Im not at teh mercy of being griefed 24/7 as in most pvp games.

    2) Qeues suck, no doubt about it.

    3) Yes as much so as any other MMO. At least when something does come out, it wont be bug ridden content..........like SWG.With 6 million customers, I think they are doing a great job. Does this excuse login difficulties....no. They should still trive to get this fixed asap.

My question....what is the real reason you ask these questions? You obvioulsy have some opinion on the matter.....looking to see if people agree or disagree without actually stating your own opinion?

    1. I have finally started playing other MMOs than WoW again. The reason I stuck with it for a year and a few months was the fun content in leveling. The end game suks.

    2. Yes, the queues for PvP are the worst thing to happen in any MMO. Besides maybe faction grinding.

    3. I do think Blizzard spends money on improving the game, but I have yet to see the improvements. Yes there are free content patches, but the real changes are expected in the expansion, which we'll pay for....

    1. It's extremly FUN! The fun factor on WoW is like no other MMO. They just have a way of making everything pleasant too me.

    2. I usually don't have to wait for more then 5 minutes to get into a battleground, however I never try on a weekend night and I am not a heavy PvP'er.

    3. Blizzard is putting alot of love into the game and they are being RELIABLE. They have a vision of the game and they are sticking too it. They aren't changing the way things work every 5 minutes and they are steadily adding to the game. The CS team to ME is far better then many other MMO's, especially SOE and Mythic.

That's fair.  After 5 years of EQ1, i have bounced around to 6 other MMO's since, WoW included for about a week.  Currently i am playing DDO, and while i think DDO has the best gameplay out of any other MMO out there, i know its content will not hold up for me, atleast till the first expansion.  So basicly i am shopping around for another MMO to enjoy over the summer.

The first question i asked was to get a feel for the strengths of the game, and whether or not they are things i would look for.

The Second question is one of my biggest problem with the game, and why i quit before.

The final question was really for me to judge the validation of the answers i got from the first 2 questions.  Its a pretty well known fact people hate not getting what they pay for, and only the most extreme fanboi would agree that blizzard is giving its customers a fair amount of game for the money they make.

But with that said 5 million people still pay to play and wait in the lines, so something must be good, and maybe i just need to give it another shot, and overlook my dislike for blizzard.

    1. It's been the MMo that I've had the most fun with, and I've played quite a few.
    2. No, I'm Horde on a High Population PvP server, PvP queues are less than 5 minutes all the time, and I generally have no login queue except on Sunday night at prime time.
    3. No, I believe there could be much more improvement, but I still think they're doing better than other companies, like say, SOE.

    1) It's the best one out there. I'm not saying it's perfect cause by no means is it, but it has more depth than many MMOs out there. However, in SWG's hayday (first 3 months at launch, at least for me), I had much more fun with all the possiblities, whereas WoW is all combat.

    2) Queue lines bother me only when Im on just for PvP, but I don't PvP much so that's not very often. The end game PvE is what I like, though I have a lot of problems with it (mostly that I never have time to run a 2 1/2 hour instance).

    3) No they don't provide us with that much. Most of what they DO provide are things I would expect them to provide, not stuff that is like "Oh wow that's cool." However compared to most MMOs they are about the same.

My biggest problem with the game is time commitment. I can usually play 4-5 hours a day but not consistently which means I can't run all the instances I want.

Ive met similar long term EQ1 players who have had trouble finding another MMO that lives up to expectations. The one thing about WOW that I dotn like , is the depth. Outside killing...there is not a whole hell of alot to do. Which most MMO's tend to be like this but some have incorporated other things such as a better tradeskill format , housing , decorating houses , and vendors.

Overall though the gaem is well polished and I expect bigger thigns to come. Just with Blizzard it seems to be a trickle of content at times instead of heavy doses which people would rather have.

    1. What is the biggest reason why you play WoW over any other MMO?

I find WoW extremely relaxing and fun to play. My play time is somewhat limited, so I don't want to feel compelled to play in order to meet guild or community demands. Imo WoW is one of the few mmos on the current market that caters to casual players.

Beyond that, it's nice to play a fairly polished game. Relatively speaking, WoW has few bugs.

    2. Do the Queue Lines you have to wait in to PvP or log in bother you?

I mainly play on Azgalor (Heavy/PvP) and the few times I've had to wait the queue hasn't exceeded 15 minutes.

    3. Do you really think Blizzard spends a good part of 50 million + a month they collect in sub fees on improvements to the game, or the CS team, and if so how much more free content do you receive over any other MMO?

Generally speaking, I've been happy with the content that's been provided to date. I'd like to see more 5-man instances and some indication if world pvp is going to be facilitated in the future.

My only real gripe with the game is server performance. Otherwise, I'm a happy camper. ^_^

Guilty as charged.  You came in with a concealed agenda and cleverly (*cough*) thought you could fool people by describing your own questions as "honest".  And, of course, you did fool some.

Wickes, quit being the wow fanboi and read his post as a single response instead of taking it apart. His overall impression is that he believes he could have been too quick to judge and is wondering if he should try again. It's that simple.

    so...

Hey bro, you think i could get one of those cool Tin Foil hats your have on at Ebay?

Relax man, don't go through life thinking everyone is out to get you or has some evil hidden agend.

As to everyone else so far, thank's for your responses.  I had already made up my mind i think to try it again once i am done with DDO (which should be in about a week, heh), just needed a nudge over the edge.

    1. Its a fun game where there is always something to do. You can kill things, explore the vast land, sightsee beutifull land with great graphic, shop, drink, or just hang out and talk to people.

    2. Not all that much. The queue lines don't make you stay in one spot, so you can go and do whatever while your waiting.

    3. I don't know what Blizzard does with its money, but i do know that they add content a lot and fix bugs every week. Every month, at the least, they announce some new battleground, instance, zone, faction, or quest chain.
