In October 2017, it came to light that Activision had filed for a matchmaking patent that was designed to "dramatically increase the odds for players to purchase microtransaction items". It appears that EA took note and has filed its own patent for an algorithm designed to "drive engagement".

Just when you think it can't go worse...
They just patented it, not implemented it. There's a lot of different reasons to patent something, but knowing EA, they would probably be the first ones to use it for evil.

Buuuy ALL The Lootboxes !
If you motivation for making these points is NOT authentically and honestly all about 'the kids' then you are being dishonest and not holding a moral high ground.

I certainly don't want each match chosen for me based on my wallet.
and its better than going to legislative route because laws can not make a good developer, only at best not a bad one.

I am not sure where the line is but I would like to at least know which game has what so my purchase is informed.

This type of matchmaking will just piss off people. Aside from allowing EA to push their micro transactions how will it promote the game itself? Will it really bring in more players when they are matched against players they have no hope of winning against unless they use their wallet.

Keep drinking the Blizzaid folks.
Mario + Rabbids is amazing.
Assassin's Creed Origins, though flawed in some regards, surpassed expectations.
Rainbow Six Siege was miraculously turned around from a flop to a smash success. They are at least attempting to do the same with The Division and For Honor, though whether it is too little too late remains to be seen. If this was EA, these titles would be scrapped or put into maintenance/cash shop updates only mode and the developers dissolved.
but
This is just... well... The death of any point to any PvP game they will make ever... If i want a sense of being a god a put the AI on easy and go to town. I do not want to have that sense by farming people that the game feed me... nor do i like to be fed to others (well outside of how it usually goes when i play shooters. =P ) I have no doubt this shit will be snuck in at some point but the longer we can keep it out the better.
Adaption is good but creating a system that is just a continual feed-loop is... well... Bad.

But yes... Small and medium sized indie developers do live on their players good will and can not afford to chance it. But once they make it big they tend to go another round and add just that... Hi pubg and Angry Birds...
