I was quite happy to stumble on this most civilized forum.

I"m back in the game after 2 years hiatus (read: wow / eq2) just because I got sick of wating in line to kill other players, and sick of waiting for the next zone to finally arrive.

So I've got Catacombs on my account, and I've been doing the instanced dungeons.  My questions.

TD - is this short for Taskmaster Dungeon?

On Kay I see Extra Rewards for having a 50 on my account.  Is this specific to the regular servers or will I see this bonus on the classic (Gareth) server as well?  Is it specific to the newer classes (bainshee etc) or all classes?  And how is it calculated?  Is it base xp doubled after or before camp, including or not including instance bonus/group bonus?

Has anything major changed in crafting?

Are TOA raids still painful and occasionally bugged?

Does the 14 day trial include the instanced dungeons?  I'm thinking of having a few friends join me and am wondering if I need to hit a bargain bin for them or not to get that.

All in all I love the new look to the classic zones, yet was really disappointed to see Domnann has seen no TLC.  I am finding the levelling of my bainshee on Kay is crazy fast.  Nice to see an mmo that actually rewards people for sticking it thru to end game - a rare sight indeed.

    Yowl,

Alot has changed in 2 years, although alot has changed since I joined the game in Nov of 05. But to answer a couple of you questions.

TD is Task Dungeon, and yes you get extra rewards for having a 50 on your account, but it is short lived, you only get that reward until level 20 I believe. I do not know how its calculated. Nothing major has changed in crafting, but they keep promising that something will. After numerous polls and alot of complaints I don't think they have much of a choice now, thank god. TOA raids have gotten much eaiser and you just need the encounter and the scrolls to get the artifact. Occasionally bugged, almost everything is occasionally bugged at one time or another, thats just the way of life.

The 14 day trial I believe does allow you to get in the TD's, and yes Bainshee's are the best on the game, its very rare you find a dead one in RVR.

Best of Luck and Welcome Back.

There's actually about 40 threads asking this exact thing (I know, I posted the same question about 2 months ago and was directed the same way to the previous 40 threads asking this. ::::02:: ) . There is a lot of detailed answers, just gotta dig through the posts.

I returned myself after about 2 years off and have been playing for two months.
Simply put. The game is a blast now more than ever. Leveling isn't the total pain it once was and the core people playing now are great. Lots of kind and friendly people.

Hell I even started a new character just to experience all the newbie quests and such and I'm 50 already.

Great game. If you're still not convinced. Go grab the 14 day trial and make sure and read the sticky post here for how to get the best from it.

    Good luck!

A lot has changed, you can read in detail in the other threads on here, but a few quick things:

    1.  New server type "Classic."  This is a server w/o ToA.  It also has a small range on concentration buffs to help mitigate buffbots.  There is no free level 20's if you have a level 50 on these servers either.

    2.  TD does equal the taskmaster dungeons.

    3.  The rewards for having a level 50 only works on the non-Classic servers.  Further, it only works on the Catacombs classes.  It is a 50% bonus to XP from level 1-20. I do not pay attention to if it is before or after a camp bonus.  Chances are unless you go camp a spot in a dungeon you will not run out of a camp bonus anyway.  It makes leveling very quick.   At level 21 it is back to normal.  You can still have the /level 20 command to get free level 20's on the other classes.

    4.  Nothing has changed with crafting since spellcrafting.  We are all hoping that in the next patch due around June that crafting will finally get some love.

    5.  ToA has been hit hard with the nerf bat.  Not enough in my opinion, but it has taken a severe and well earned beating.  ML raids happen all the time and usually go well.  Encounters have been made easier.  All you need is Artifact credit and scrolls to activate the artifacts.  Artifact XP is significantly quicker and is earned with any XP.

    6.  As you have noticed the time to level is much quicker than it was at the begining.  It takes 1/10th of the time it did when the game was released to reach level 50.

    7.  They are working on updating the old zones.  Not sure when they will get to the SI areas, but I am sure it will happen eventually.

    8.  The 14 day trial does not include the TD.  It incluce everything but the last 2 expansions - Catacombs and Darkness Rising.

Just a couple things to add:

    1) In addition to TDs, there are Instance Dungeons.  They're somewhat similar to WoW's or EQ2's, with the exception that mobs have a chance to drop something called aurulite. Collect enough aurulite and you can purchase some pretty nice armor for almost any level. Instance dungeons are located inside the old world dungeons.

    2) ToA has indeed been made much more palatable. The basic effect of the changes has been to make getting new characters RvR-ready much easier. Like others mentioned, you only need artifact encounter credit and the scrolls to get the artifact.  Scrolls drops have been drastically increased, though there are a few rare ones still.

    3) The latest expansion, Darkness Rising, received pretty high marks. The main additions were personal mounts, champion weapons, and sub-classing.

I quit WoW last September and returned to DAoC. Since then, I've been having a lot of fun (being in a great guild helps immensely), though there are occasional frustrations.  One of the biggest changes is that Mythic is now driving game improvements largely based on polling feedback, though many feel some of the improvements fall short of what is truly needed.
