I have posted many times how I distrust and dislike SOE as a company but I am still thankfull for the good times I had in SWG and I recently downloaded the free version of planetside out of bordeom. I must say I am hooked, I was a fps player up until I played SWG and I wish if the NGE was gonna be fps they shoulda made it a true fps like planetside. I just hope I dont come across as a sell out and I remeber saying I would never buy anything SONY ever again or play any of their games but I realy like PS and have to give em credit for that game because its very unique.

If you're an fps player, why did you quit swg? It's basically fps now anyway.

Why do people even consider it a MMOFPS or a FPS,I guess you never played a FPS Senden, because you consider SWG a fps,a FPS (first person shooter) is a free to fire in any direction game, you can shoot anywhere you like ,you can put holes in anything that is alive or dead.SWG is a RPG for kids now,why?...because kids ( less than 7 years old) tend to click like mad while playing a FPS,thinking they can shoot more rounds if they do,in SWG you hold your reticle over the target and click like insane while using special attacks, this is just like in a RPG except that you click like insane and ruin your mouse .
It's FPS for children. Brought to you by Playskool.

It sounds great, so great in fact, I pitty those who canceled - Some deluded SWG fanboi who pities me.
I don't like it when you say things. - A Vanguard fan who does too.

It is, however, the only game made by SOE that has been so utterly mis-managed
It is also the only game made by SOE that they don't completely run. LA has a big controlling interest in SWG so the chance for mis-management is trippled.
1 - SOE *is* perfectly capable of making mistakes
2 - LA *is* perfectly capable of making mistakes
3 - when BOTH companies make mistakes the problems get even worse because then instead of FIXING the problem they bicker about it and the 'fix' is generally turned into throwing out the baby with the bathwater. Which is exactly what happened when NGE hit.
If you like other SOE titles it's not a horrible thing. EQ, EQ2 and PlanetSide are all very good games. Personally I intend to stay away from games that are run by companies other than whom own the title.
DDO comes to mind. It's suffering the same fate as SWG is right now. Mis-managed, poor design, bad implementation, you name it. Sound familliar? Maybe this will to:
Turbine develops the game
Atari promotes the game
AD&D Owns the game
YIKES a 3 headed hydra.
Same deal is gonna happen for LOTR, mark my words. Unless Turbine takes a very long hard look at their failure with DDO and has an epiphone they are going to go right down the same damn road and make a flop out of LOTRO.

And this is exactly why SOE can do anything they want to SWG (even turn it into Pacman(tm)) and people will still be playing it.
It's Star Wars. The free trial has nothing - NOTHING in common with old SWG. Apart from a few textures, and some models, everything else is new.
Simply because it offers a glimpse into SW universe with real people, it apeals to certain demographic. NGE changed nothing, neither did CU, the village, the vehicles, not even launched changed it from beta.
Unfortunately, since the game (from technical PoV, even for MMORPG standards) is PoS, it will never apeal to larger population that it has always had. People are returning, new players are joining, others are leaving. The fluctuations cause by NGE simply swapped about 20% of population. The rest are there to stay. They'll keep on whining, they'll complain, cancel and resub. And the more things change, the more they stay the same.
SOE even publicaly stated that. It's interesting and sad really. They could shut down SWG, put out a turd with SW label on it, and people would buy it once again.
Of course, this has no long term strategy, because once this is done, people will look around. They'll see there are games that have advanced since times of UO and EQ. They'll realize there are companies that are constantly producing fun, trouble free, simple and accessible games. They'll also realize, that what seems big in SOE's eyes, is just a niche B-grade rip-off company.
But by all means, play if you enjoy. And if you're having fun, why not. SOE will survive with or without you. They'll be here as long as they are turning profit, with or without SW name. But they'll always stay behind, bottom-feeding on scraps from other industries.
EQ was not developed by them, they just took it over, and flooded it with expansions.
EQ2 is an EQ rip-off. Produced with no real direction, just giving EQ players what they wanted.
SWG is UO clone. It's also WoW clone since CU.
And when people ask, why there are companies, that have no problem handling, attracting and keeping anywhere between 1 and 50 million players, the answer will always be: SOE.
And I like how now after all the focus groups, dinners, and all the time lines it looks like they will be re-implementing a large portion of the old game including stuff that they said would never come back. It's become a question of why the NGE was released in such a condition. Granted I've only heard rumors of how hard it was to develop for this game, but if they bring everything else back in would that in six months time be going back to where they were development wise?
